But Carragher, after serving a period away from British television screens having been caught on camera spitting out of his car window at another driver, was welcomed back by the broadcasters.

The 67-year-old - who left Sky alongside long-time co-host Andy Gray in 2011 following allegations of sexism - documented his treatment journey by starring in a video for the British Hair Clinic. The optimism of English supporters over the team's chances at Euro 2024 have taken a hit after two underwhelming performances in their opening two matches. The Three Lions laboured to a 1-0 win over Serbia in their opener before being largely outplayed in a 1-1 draw with Denmark in Frankfurt.

United finally gave their followers something to celebrate after going from 2-0 down to beating Villa 3-2 in a thriller at Old Trafford. Alejandro Garnacho scored the home team's first goal of the evening, but it was his second that left Gray particularly dissatisfied with Leander Dendoncker.

Gray and colleague Richard Keys lost their jobs at Sky Sports after making sexist remarks about referees Sian Massey-Ellis and Toms.

www.dailymail.co.uk,

After Richard Keys accused Manchester United's captain of deliberately being sacked so he'd miss next weekend's match against Liverpool, Phil Neville has steadfastly defended Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes was given his fifth yellow card of the season on Saturday at Old Trafford for arguing with the referee, essentially ending with a one-game suspension for the ride to Anfield. Richard Keys, a BeIN Sports host, told fellow host Andy Gray that he felt the United captain deliberately got a yellow to miss the game against the Premier League leaders.

With a 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Wednesday that put them above Pep Guardiola's side in third place in the Premier League, the Villans continued their undefeated start to the season. However, the club's revival began well before the 2023-24 season, and in truth, it goes back to Unai Emery's arrival in November last year. Villa has changed from a relegation-threatened outfit to one with real aspirations to qualify for the Champions League, if not more.

October 7, 2023
Manchester United have been chastised for celebrating their victory over Brentford at Old Trafford, according to Andy Gray. When Mathias Jensen put the Bees up to 26 minutes, Erik ten Hag's side seemed to be on a collision course. However, replacement Scott McTominay did a good job in injury time to save United's blushes and ease the pressure on Ten Hag.
Everton could do with a signing like Andy Gray right now 40 years on from his arrival at Goodison Park- but if £25m signing Beto can have half the impact the 67-year-old did Evertonians will breathe an almighty sigh of relief
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 9, 2023
BY JOE BERNSTEIN, EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Everton was in danger when they signed a center forward as a desperate last resort to get them out of jail. Sounds familiar? It should do fine, and if signing Beto has only half the impact Andy Gray did, Evertonians will breathe a deep sigh of relief. Gray, the 17th of Everton, arrived at Goodison Park in November 1983. They only had 9,000 gates against Coventry, but the Scot has won the FA Cup, the League championship, and the European Cup Winners' Cup within two years. Gray, now 67, is back in England from his base in Qatar for a short period of time. On Tuesday, he will lunch with former colleague Peter Reid, with the socials likely to spill over to watching Scotland play England in a bar that night. Sean Dyche is also planning a pilgrimage to Merseyside to speak with owner Sean Dyche for his television show beIN SPORTS.

www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 4, 2023
After Manchester United's 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Sunday, Andy Gray has chastised the team. United struggled hard at the Emirates, taking the lead from Marcus Rashford midway through the first half before being stifled by Martin Odegaard. Alejandro Garnacho thought he had won the game in the closing stages, but VAR and then Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus scored injury time goals to give the Gunners a dramatic win. Erik ten Hag's side now has six points from their first four games, although they were also unconvincing after victories over both Wolves and Nottingham Forest, which has been a slow start to the season.

Martin Tyler has become one of modern football commentary's most iconic figures, narrating some of the most exciting moments in a club game. So the news that he was being cut from Sky Sports for cost-cutting reasons brought home how important the 77-year-old has been to football on Saturday. This season was the first time he had missed a Premier League trophy lift in 20 years, bowing out of the Manchester City coverage due to a sore throat. His work has been lauded by fans and fellow media professionals since joining Sky in 1990. In April 2003, he was named Premier League Commentator of The Decade, and he's now retired for two decades.
In a dramatic cost-cutting change, Sky Sports AXE's football reporting staff made a dramatic cost cut
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 16, 2023
AHEAD OF THE GUIDE: Sky Sports has laid off half of their football reporting staff in a drastic cost-cutting initiative that could also result in the departure of veteran interviewer Geoff Shreeves. Shreeves has been asked to take a substantial pay cut if he wants to prolong his stay at the broadcaster he first joined when the Premier League first began in 1992, according to Mail Sport. Shreeves is considering his options after 31 years of service at Sky, he would be entitled to a substantial redundancy grant if he wishes to leave and may be looking elsewhere. Following a discussion over redundancies in April, Sky's decision was released, with six of their 13-strong staff of football reporters being fired, although some went to go voluntarily and others being given alternative positions.
How British transfer record rose from £10,000 in 1928 to Chelsea's £107m Fernandez move
www.dailymail.co.uk,
February 1, 2023
MATT BARLOW: The country ground came to a halt with the train workers and lorry drivers on strike, schools closed, inflation soared, politics collapsing, and football gorged on a gluttony of spending. This was February 1979 and the dog days of Discontent's winter. Nottingham Forest paid Birmingham City £1.18 million for Trevor Francis, less than a month after West Bromwich Albion had been the first to crack the £500,000 barrier. Chelsea's new US owners have returned to action, while football remains immune from the nation's highest cost of living crisis, as train drivers strike, schools close, and inflation rises. Some things don't change.
John Barnwell and John McGovern, football's most unlikely friends, are Nottingham Forest and Wolves
www.dailymail.co.uk,
January 10, 2023
INTERVIEW BY JOE BERNSTEIN: Neighbours John McGovern and John Barnwell normally avoid discussing the 1980 League Cup final, but they did make an exception with former clubs Nottingham Forest and Wolves meeting again in the quarter-finals on Wednesday night. Barnwell, the vivacious Wolves boss 43 years ago, spent his time in his smart apartment overlooking the River Trent with Brian Clough's Forest captain McGovern strolling the few yards from the same block for a cup of coffee and a catch-up. The final at Wembley Stadium is still memorable, but not just because it is Wolves' last major trophy. Forest went in as one of Europe's top favorites and winners of the previous two League Cups, but they were disqualified when England goalkeeper Peter Shilton collided with defender David Needham to give Britain's most expensive player, Andy Gray, a tap-in for the only goal. Andy may have been a two-year-old boy and scored that,' says McGovern, but the agony of losing has not completely disappeared.
