Championship club Derby have appointed English cricket's former performance director, Mo Bobat, as head of their new sporting intelligence department. Mail Sport reported last November that Bobat, who spent a dozen years with the England and Wales Cricket Board, would move into football this year. He has joined the newly promoted Rams on a part-time deal that allows him to retain his director of cricket role at Indian Premier League side Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Since being diagnosed with incurable cancer, the 'Rugby family' has demonstrated their love for former Six Nations and Welsh Rugby Union commercial director Craig Maxwell

Many within the sport are well aware of the notion of the 'rugby family,' the belief that it encourages a collective spirit and shared values among its members. Anybody seems to have dismissed the suggestion. I beg to differ and have first-hand knowledge of why. Rugby in the United Kingdom is also dealing with issues both on and off the field.
England's five best Test away victories: Bazball steals the show in Asia, as Ben Stokes reigns supreme... but winning in Ashes is much more impressive than winning in India
www.dailymail.co.uk,
January 29, 2024
Ben Stokes' side recovered with a 196 from Ollie Pope as he came back from a jittery first innings to play one of his country's best abroad. Tom Hartley, the debutant spinner, made a comeback of his own by taking seven second innings wickets to spin his team to victory by 28 runs. With confidence on their side and a series win in India, England will now go into the remainder of the series, an unprecedented occurrence in the modern age.
How to beat India?Tell them they blew the World Cup!: England's heroes of 2012 - the last Test team to beat the mighty Indian side on their own soil - reveal the secrets of success
www.dailymail.co.uk,
January 25, 2024
Fast starts, keeping India's spinners quiet, runs on the board and picking the right team! Those are the keys to touring success, as told to Mail Sport by England's heroes of 2012, when the last Test team to beat mighty India on their own turf.
STUART BROAD: Ben Stokes is right to keep the build-up short and sweet: England's late arrival in India is all about control
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 30, 2023
STUART BROAD: The decision to fly to India only three days before the first Test next month is not England minimising preparations; instead, Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, as coach and captain, are leading the effort. Touring has changed from the Ashes of 2010-11, when their predecessors, Andy Flower and Andrew Strauss, made it clear that we were here to win every game. We weren't going to give people a shot in those games or discipline players out when batting. We were convicted of attacking our opponents, getting into wars against full-strength State and representative sides while still striving to win.
It was like being tasered.' I was stunned, furious. STUART BROAD's latest book recalls the terrifying moment he learned he'd been suspended - alongside Jimmy Anderson - during the West Indies' 2022 tour

During a round of golf at Sunningdale, Stuart Broad had been wondering what went wrong in the 2021-22 Ashes with Zak Crawley, Rob Key, and former tennis player Tim Henman. Cue the humour of a dramatic irony. Following Ashley Giles' dismissal days earlier, I had a WhatsApp call from Andrew Strauss, the ECB's interim managing director, within seconds of getting into my car to drive home. It was a terrible signal that sparked a brief, tumultuous chat, beginning with him reminding me that I would not be heading to the Caribbean.

www.dailymail.co.uk,

Andrew Strauss appears to have been bowled over by a brunette four years after his wife Ruth (lower inset) died of lung cancer. As they left an exclusive London restaurant earlier this week, the former England cricket captain, 46, was seen embracing Antonia Linnaeus Peat. Strauss and the PR specialist, who is 18 years younger than him, are said to have been in a feud for many months.
Pat Cummins hits back as Ben Stokes slams Australia over Jonny Bairstow Ashes stumping at Lord's
www.dailymail.co.uk,
July 2, 2023
After being dismissed, the Aussie skipper got on the front foot when Stokes slammed his team's tactics and said England would "not want to win this way." In highly emotional scenes that culminated in Australian players being abused by members of the Long Room, Alex Carey stumped his opposite number.
Zak Crawley's technique has helped him land in better shape
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 29, 2023
NASSER HUSSAIN AT LORD'S: Zak Crawley was fantastic on Thursday, and you could see the technical work he has done in recent months coming to an end. He has tightened up his technique, and he was lining the ball up nicely once more on Thursday. He had a wide batting career before, and in New Zealand earlier this year, he was playing a little out of place in front of himself.
BUMBLE AT THE TESTES: After another century in the Ashes, Steve Smith's technique was a piece of art
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 29, 2023
BUMBLE AT THE TEST: England dropped two runs for 77 runs at the start of a promising day two to finish the day on 284 for four, 183 runs shy of the 416 set earlier today. After Steve Smith's eighth century on English soil - the second most for an Australian - then England and England put on a spectacular opening partnership of 91. Zak Crawley collapsed for 48 before Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett began the wretch, but the vice captain escaped on 42 for a tame dismissal with the hosts clearly on top.
Why Australia have ditched the baggy green for red caps ahead of second Ashes Test at Lord's
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 27, 2023
In the second Ashes Test at Lord's this week, Australia will not be wearing their traditional baggy green caps, whether on the field or at the crease. The reason why they'll be sporting red headwear (pictured top) will warm the hearts of cricket fans.
Andrew Strauss addresses the death of his wife Ruth, who says that it made him realize that "time is precious."
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 25, 2023
Andrew Strauss, a retired England captain, has written about Ruth, his wife Ruth, who tragically died of lung cancer four and a half years ago. Strauss talked to The Telegraph about his grief and revealed that losing his wife changed his outlook on life as he continues to try to keep his loved ones happy. "Our time is precious," he said, and I must be more aware of what I do and don't do. Even though I don't want to let people down, this could result in me experiencing things that weren't appealing to me or saying no to things at all.'
Andy Flower, a former England coach, has won the Ashes
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 6, 2023
During his five years as king, Flower, 55, lifted the Ashes three times, leading Andrew Strauss' team to the top of the ICC Test rankings in that period. Flower will be a'consultant' to coach Andrew McDonald in this summer after leaving his post in 2015 and Australia captain Pat Cummins has revealed that he would return to work with him this summer.
Shane Warne's landmark victims talk through the balls that made him an Australian icon
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 16, 2023
Shane Warne's Test career took in 708 wickets, with the Australian legend famous for making batters look stupid. In a career that reimagined leg spin, he dismissed Jacques Kallis, Andrew Strauss, and Marcus Trescothick. Only Muttiah Muralitharan took more Test wickets, and no one did as much to please and inspire supporters as much as they did.
Kent's woes persist despite his misfiring - FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM THE County Championship

Five Things You'll Love: Although other members of England's Test team have been raking it in at the IPL, Ollie Pope has been getting ready for Ireland and Australia with some of the more typical defending champions Surrey's. His 11th first-class century at The Oval, and sixth against Hampshire.
Rehan, a Leicestershire coach, says the rise of England history maker Rehan demonstrates the value of the 18-county system
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 5, 2023
As definitive proof of the 18-county system's enduring relevance, Paul Nixon refers to the emergence of English cricket's most exciting all-round prospect. Rehan Ahmed's England debuts in Test, one-day international, and Twenty2020 cricket this winter at just 18 years old, according to the Leicestershire coach, there must still be a place for smaller counties in an ever-changing franchise laden world. 'It's ridiculous to say there should be fewer counties,' the coach of the bottom-place division two team in 2022 without a single victory to their name.' We have to be a natural performer in four tournaments, and Leicestershire does just that.' We're very proud of the England players we've produced over the past 25 to 30 years, and we're continuing to produce more.'
Michael Vaughan was invited to the ECB for a written attack on Azeem Rafiq on SAME DAY
www.dailymail.co.uk,
March 6, 2023
Exclusive BY MATT HUGHES: Michael Vaughan was invited to participate in Andrew Strauss' High Performance Review the same day the ECB charged him with using racist words against Azeem Rafiq last June. In an email sent to Strauss on June 22nd, the England captain was asked to attend a Zoom meeting, but the ECB charged him later that day for allegedly making the famous 'you lot' comment. The ECB's decision to seek Vaughan's help in conducting the Study, which was triggered by England's 4-0 loss in Australia, has never been revealed publicly and could lead to further concerns regarding Lord's governance.
Following England's loss of No. 1 Test ranking status, the team suffered a serious blow
www.dailymail.co.uk,
February 28, 2023
England's hopes of a dramatic one-run victory over New Zealand have been stumbling in the Ashes summer. So has been Ben Stokes' team's remarkable transformation over the past nine months that it is expected that they would receive a major eight-point boost when the International Cricket Council's annual ranking update is released on May 1. An increase from 106 to 114 points would put them on the coattails of both India and Australia, who are currently on 121 and 120 respectively with two Tests of the new series between them left to play.
England defeat New Zealand by 267 runs over New Zealand after James Anderson takes four wickets
www.dailymail.co.uk,
February 19, 2023
PAUL NEWMAN AT MOUNT MAUNGANUI: Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad have been picked for England's tour of the Caribbean last year, but they will never play again, and Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad have been adamant on flat pitches. Broad believes Andrew Strauss' controversial decision to leave out Test cricket's most prolific relationship for what was then described as a'red-ball re-set' under Joe Root and Chris Silverwood may have inadvertently saved his career. Ben Stokes told Rob Key he wanted both of England's champion bowlers back when he took over as Test captain last summer, and was delighted when the new managing director agreed with him.
Despite a poor run of five consecutive ODI losses, Moeen Ali maintains that England will not panic
www.dailymail.co.uk,
January 30, 2023
Despite being on the verge of equalling their worst set of one-day international results for 14 years, Moeen Ali says England will not be concerned with panic. England lost by five wickets in Bloemfontein on Sunday, making it five in a row, and not since Andrew Strauss' side trailed 6-0 at home to Australia in 2009. However, such form comes as a result of mitigating circumstances, and this tour has resulted in blooding new players and excluding others from lay-offs, while senior men Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, and Mark Wood have all been in Australia last November.
This summer, county cricket will play a new Kookaburra ball in Championship action
www.dailymail.co.uk,
January 29, 2023
This summer, county cricket will play the Kookaburra ball in two full rounds of Championship play. Following a recommendation by the high-performance study, which is chaired by former England captain Andrew Strauss, the directors of cricket at the 18 First-class counties were told by the ECB on Friday that they would try the Australian-made balls. The Ashes are scheduled between June 25 and July 13.
After beating Pakistan, England's best overseas Test cricket victories have been recorded
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 5, 2022
England won the first Test by 74 runs in Rawalpindi over a dead pitch, the setting sun, and a dogged Pakistan. Ben Stokes made a fourth day declaration that could have backfired on England, and, in fact, Pakistan appeared firmly on track to win by 343 points. But Jimmy Anderson and Ollie Robinson were out for four wickets apiece after they managed to pull something out of the surface before Jack Leach ended it. So where does this win rank among England's finest overseas? LAWRENCE BOOTH, a renowned newspaper in the United States, is ranked in the top five by the best of the top five.
Ben Stokes and 'Baz-ball' have changed England's Test team
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 5, 2022
PAUL NEWMAN: Nothing, it seemed, could ever beat those three victories, all by an innings, that saw Andrew Strauss' England triumphantly win the Ashes in Australia 12 years ago. But sure, this did not happen. This has to be England's best away win in Test history. To get to that point, you do not have to be a student of the game. To a different Ashes disaster that did not even exist last year, you only need to think back to another one. Not to mention the horrific capitulation that followed it in the Caribbean as recently as March. England seemed to be unable to win Test matches away from home's green grass. Another round of navel gazing and a High Performance Review by the same Strauss that has now looks increasingly unnecessary as follows.
TOP SPIN: England beat Pakistan in the first Test of the first Test on day one, defeating them in a series of records
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 1, 2022
England's 556 for four from just 75 overs on a day's Test cricket, defeating their 553 for two at Lord's in 1924. It was also the most runs any team had on the first day of a Test, beating 496 by Australia against South Africa at Sydney in 1910-11. Never before had they boasted four centurions on the same day, and they only had four in the same innings against the West Indies at Trent Bridge in 1938.
