Andrew Eppley Shue (born February 20, 1967) is an American actor best known for his role as Billy Campbell on the television series Melrose Place (1992–1999).
He served on the Board of Directors for Do Something (which he co-founded) and was the co-founder of the social networking website CafeMom.
Early life
Shue was born in Wilmington, Delaware. Anne Brewster (née Wells), a bank executive who was vice president of the Chemical Bank Corporation's private division, was born 1938. James William Shue (born 1936 -2013), a lawyer and real estate developer who was active in Republican politics, served in the United States Congress in New Jersey and unsuccessfully run for the Senate of New Jersey. His mother was a descendant of Pilgrim king William Brewster and his father was of German ancestry, from Pennsylvania.
Elisabeth is a child actor who performed in two of his first uncredited film appearances. She was spotted in Babysitting's The Karate Kid and Adventures.
Shue attended Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey. In 1994, he and his sister were admitted to the CHS Hall of Fame. Shue, a player at Dartmouth College, was a Regional All America soccer player and spent a winter training and playing soccer in Glasgow, Scotland for Queen's Park FC. Shue earned his B.A. Dartmouth's history started in 1989. After graduating, he went to Zimbabwe, where he simultaneously played soccer and taught high school math at Founders High School.
Personal life
Shue was married to floral designer Jennifer Hageney from 1994 to 2008. They have three sons. In 2008, the two couples divorced.
In 2010, Shue married Good Morning America co-anchor and ABC News reporter Amy Robach. She has two children from a previous marriage.
Career
Shue was cast in Billy Campbell's role on the Aaron Spelling soap opera Melrose Place in May 1992. He played Courtney Thorne-Smith, a teen who later died. Shue stayed on the show for six years. He appeared as an intimate husband in the Francis Ford Coppola film The Rainmaker, starring Matt Damon and Claire Danes during this period.
Shue is being traded for former SportsCenter anchor Charley Steiner, where Steiner's career on Melrose Place and Shue takes over SportsCenter on ESPN in 1996.
Davis Guggenheim, the Oscar-winning producer of An Inconvenient Truth, produced Gracie, his brother John, Elisabeth, his brother John, and his brother-in-law. Shue co-produced the film and appeared in a minor role. It honors Will, the Shue siblings' elder brother, who died in a tragic accident in 1988. Shue played for Bulawayo Highlanders during his time in Zimbabwe. Both the Highlanders and CBZ Cup titles were won during the season. Shue was the first white player to play in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League at the time. In September 1993, he appeared in one game with Los Angeles United of the Continental Indoor Soccer League. He appeared in two Anaheim Splash games in July 1994. Shue played for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer in 1996, while still on Melrose Place, collecting one assist in five games. He was on injured reserve for the entire 1997 season.
Shue co-founded DoSomething with his childhood best friend Michael Sanchez. He now serves on the board of directors.
CafeMom, founded by Shue and Sanchez in 2006. Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Highland Capital Partners are the leading investors. The website was used to connect and share tips and ideas for mothers. On May 24, 2018, CafeMom's community forums were closed at 5:00 p.m. EST. The company cited high advertising prices as the reason for the company's demise. The CafeMom is now a family of businesses, including the blog The Stir, Baby Name Wizard, and MamasLatinas, a Spanish-owned Latina website.
Shue co-hosted "Mad Life" with his mother-in-law, Joan Robach, and comedian Chuck Nice.
