One of the club's finest forwards, Shaw was a vital part of the Villa side who lifted the European Cup in 1982 and though Jacob Ramsey has some way to go to emulate that, he is certainly on the right track. There was an uncomfortable final few minutes after Leicester pulled one back and belatedly generated some intensity as they chased a second. But Villa made their superiority count and returned to winning ways.

With the score 0-0, Amadou Onana's shot had defected off the crossbar, before rebounding to Watkins in the air. The striker headed the ball to the goal from just yards out, but an outstretched Raya pulled off a great reflex save with his left palm. With the match goalless early in the second half and Aston Villa 's belief growing, Amadou Onana's shot from the edge of the box clipped Arsenal defender Gabriel and looped towards goal. Readjusting quicky, Raya leapt backwards and turned the ball on to the bar.

The Spaniard looked down and out when Amadou Onana's deflected shot looped over him as he dived back and bounced off the bar into Watkins' path. Raya was on the floor time stood still and Watkins hared down on the ball unmarked with most of the goal to aim for. But the Villa star headed it just within reach and Raya produced a cat-like save to claw the ball away and keep the scores level.

Everton are reportedly at risk of beginning the Premier League season with yet another points deduction. The Toffees were hit with a staggering 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR) last November for an infraction in the 2021-22 season. The deduction was slashed to six points after an appeal, only for Everton to be docked two further points in April for overspending in the 2022-23 campaign.

The German side struck first in the 17th minute with a poacher's goal for Portuguese striker Andre Silva which led to an injury to keeper Robin Olsen. A second goal for Die Roten Bullen from Loïs Openda led to a moment of madness from Villa center back Diego Carlos - who was sent off.

Amadou Onana has finally completed his move to Aston Villa from Everton, both clubs have confirmed. The Belgian midfielder, 22, joins Villa for around £50million as they prepare for their return to Europe's top table in the Champions League. Mail Sport reported almost two months ago that Onana was likely to leave Goodison Park this summer.

Toffees owners Blue Heaven Holdings have been trying to sell the club for an extended period of time, initially looking set to sell to 777 Partners before the deal was cancelled. The latest talks have been with the Friedkin Group to explore a potential takeover, but both parties, according to a joint statement, 'agree it is in both their interests for Everton to explore alternative options'. The Friedkin Group have been lenders to the club, helping facilitate the club's new stadium being built, and had expressed interesting in taking over from Farhad Moshiri and Co.

Meanwhile, Everton are continuing talks with Villa over the £50m sale of midfielder Amadou Onana. Mail Sport reported on Saturday that Villa were on the verge of sealing a deal for Belgium star Onana, who played four times at Euro 2024. That reality is edging closer as Champions League-bound Villa have agreed personal terms with the midfielder and had a bid accepted - though a deal is not done yet.

The Toffees are keen and have entered talks to strike a deal which would be relatively cheap. Sources close to the Goodison Park club expect Belgian midfielder Onana to move on - and Mail Sport understands Arsenal made contact last week over a deal. Nothing is at an advanced stage but the Gunners, plus another Champions League side, have registered interest.
