Since it was revealed that her property developer parents owe tens of millions of dollars in failed businesses, Miss Universe Australia has taken to the national costume portion of the pageant. Moraya Wilson, 21, walked out in a pastel-hued gown by Perth designer Emma Daley called Wild Beauty (left), inspired by Australia's native wildflowers and a subpared choice compared to several of the others on display in El Salvador on the weekend. Ms Wilson (right) is facing growing scrutiny in the United States over her family's commercial dealings, with her father, Anton Wilson, owing more than $45 million after several businesses he ran collapsed.

At José Adolfo Pineda Arena, San Salvador, the first Miss Universe to welcome married women and mothers has kicked off. Queens stepped out in lavish bejewelled ensembles for the costume show, with everything from an Oxford English Dictionary to tulips, even airplanes on display. An array of animals such as butterflies, goats, and birds adorned the stage in a burst of colour, with one entry dressed as a cobbled street.
