The majority of us will live long enough without having to worry twice about being struck by lightning, let alone trying to recover from it's life-changing effects. According to CDC estimates, there are around 40 million lightning strikes in the United States each year, but the odds of being struck in any given 12 months are less than a million. Lightning strikes, whether not fatal, can cause a lifetime of chronic pain, as many survivors have discovered out. Miracle victims were left with ringing in their ears, PTSD, extreme burns, mental stability issues, vision impairments, and more. Last year, lightning strikes killed 19 people, up from 11 years ago and 17 in 2020. As a result of lightning strike survivor Amber Escudero-Kontostathis discovered out last August, the chances of being struck by lightning in your lifetime are one in 15,300, but it is something largely out of your hands. The charity worker survived a 950-volt lightning strike in the White House that killed three others. Despite surviving, the August 4 strange weather phenomenon fried her nerves and stopped her heart. DailyMail.com looks at ten other extraordinary survivor cases as she speaks out about her horrific injuries and grueling road to recovery.
