Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Skvortsov (born May 6, 1966) is a Russian cosmonaut.
He has two spaceflights, both of which were long-duration missions aboard the International Space Station, and he has been in orbit for two weeks.
With the spacecraft Soyuz TMA-18, his first space flight took place from April to September 2010.
He arrived at the station part of Expedition 23, of which Oleg Kotov was the Commander.
Skvortsov became Commander when Expedition 24 began in June.
Personal life
Elena Georgievna Skvortsova (née Krasnikova) is married to Skvortsov. Anna Aleksandrovna Skvortsova, born in 1990, is their one daughter. Aleksandrovich Skvortsov, a Russian boy born in 1942, is a writer who wrote about Aleksandrovich Skvortsov. Nina Ivanovna Skvortsova (Zabelina), born in 1938, is his mother. Skvortsov's interests include diving, soccer, badminton, fishing, hunting, and tourism. He is also a certified underwater diving and powered paragliding instructor (paraborne) instructor.
Education
Skvortsov graduated from the Stavropol Air Force Pilot and Navigator School (located at Stavropol Shpakovsky Airport) in 1987 as a pilot-engineer and the Military Red Banner Air Defense Academy in 1997. He is currently attending the Russian Academy of Civil Service for a law degree.
Cosmonaut career
Skvortsov completed basic space training from January 1998 to November 1999. In November, 1999, he was first recognized as a test-cosmonaut. He was in advanced training at the International Space Station beginning in January 2000. Skvortsov was deployed as a flight engineer and Soyuz TMA commander in March 2008.
On Expedition 23, Skvortsov served as a Flight Engineer for the International Space Station (ISS). On April 2, 2010, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, he and fellow Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Korniyenko and NASA astronaut Tracy Caldwell-Dyson traveled to the ISS aboard Soyuz TMA-18. On May 6, 2010, he commemorated his 44th birthday in space aboard the ISS.
Skvortsov was the commander of the ISS Expedition 24. On May 31, 2010, aboard the ISS Expedition 23 commander Oleg Kotov, he handed over his responsibilities to Skvortsov at the traditional "Change of Command" ceremony.
Ending Expedition 24, the Soyuz TMA-18 spacecraft carrying Commander Alexander Skvortsov, Mikhail Kornienko, and NASA astronaut Tracy Caldwell-Dyson unmoored from the space station at 10:02 p.m. EDT on September 24, 2010. The Soyuz crew landed near Arkalyk, Kazakhstan, at 5:23 a.m. GMT on September 25 after a normal descent.
Skvortsov expressed his excitement about returning to Earth and revealing his findings to an audience, adding: "I love spicy food, I make really hot chili sauce myself." I seriously regretted it. On the ISS, I had finished off all of the spicy ketchup stock, and it shocked everybody by preparing and eating wasabi sandwiches. That's my fuel, as good as a rocket's."
Skvortsov, along with Oleg Artemyev and Steven Swanson as a flight engineer on the Expedition 39 crew, returned to space aboard Soyuz TMA-12M. The mission was launched on March 25, 2014 and landed on September 11, 2014.
Skvortsov was launched on July 20, 2019 and landed at the International Space Station on the same day as the Expedition 60/61 crew.
