ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS: Who was Sinan, once described as the most prolific architect in the world?

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 25, 2024
Mimar Sinan (c. 1489-1588) is most famous for his monumental contributions to Ottoman architecture. Sinan served as the chief architect of the Ottoman Empire under the reigns of three sultans - Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim II and Murad III - which gave him an unmatched opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the empire's skyline. During his 50-year career, he is credited with designing or supervising the construction of more than 450 buildings, including mosques, palaces, bridges, baths and schools. His use of domes, minarets and courtyards, as well as his mastery of symmetry and proportions, became hallmarks of the Ottoman mosque design, exemplified by his two greatest works - the Suleymaniye Mosque (seen) in Istanbul, completed in 1557, and the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne (1574), the work Sinan himself regarded as his finest.

Almost 300 men aged over 50 have applied to become the legal father of a surrogate child over the past five years - and 43 of them are over 60, new figures reveal. And a total of 95 single men applied to become a parent, reflecting a growing trend in men, especially older men, having babies alone with the help of surrogates. Since the law changed in 2019 to give single people the same surrogacy rights as couple, there have been 2,162 applications from intended parents in England. A total of 293 would-be fathers are over 50, both solo and in couples, according to figures released following a Freedom of Information Act application from The Mail on Sunday.

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 4, 2024
Former Oasis drummer Alan White has dropped a huge hint that he will join the band for their sold-out reunion tour. Fans have been speculating who will join Noel and Liam Gallagher on stage next year after they announced they would be reforming the Britpop band for a mammoth tour of the UK and Ireland. And White, 52, has sent the rumour mill into overdrive after he shared two cryptic social media posts in the last few days. The first post, shared on Wednesday, showed a drum kit containing a Union Jack flag-themed artwork from his time in Oasis, of whom he was a member of from 1995 to 2004. Three days later, he posted a black and white video to his 42,500 followers showcasing his drumming skills with the caption 'Can't beat old drums'.

Now Oasis fans turn on EACH OTHER and moan they are missing out on reunion tour to Gen Z 'Wonderwall warriors' who are too young to remember band's heyday - as tickets for all 17 shows go on sale

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 31, 2024
Oasis fans have started to turn each other as they hurl accusations that Gen Z have stolen all the tickets, despite being too young to remember the band's heyday. Furious punters - branding themselves 'real' fans - claim they have lost out on the chance to see the Britpop band's comeback tour to 'fake' fans who 'only know Wonderwall'. The 17-date tour runs from July 4 to August 17, kicking off at Cardiff's Principality Stadium before heading to Manchester's Heaton Park, Wembley Stadium in London , Murrayfield in Edinburgh and Croke Park in Dublin. The general release sale opened from 8am in Ireland and 9am in the UK. Fans posted pictures of their 'ticket stations' using an army of laptops, iPads and mobiles in a bid to increase their chances of getting a highly sought-after ticket. But as tickets went on sale, thousands have been left 'devastated' after being unable to access Ticketmaster, Gigs and Tours and SeeTickets. Some were forced into a queue just to join the waiting room, while others reported getting kicked out of the ticket sales websites as they got to the front.

Oasis reunion tour tickets have now officially gone on sale for all 17 shows in the UK and Ireland but thousands are distraught as the website crashes. Millions of loyal fans of the Britpop band have tried joined the queue on an army of laptops, iPads and phones to increase their chances of getting one of the highly sort after summer gigs. Bookmakers put the odds of landing one of the 1.4million tickets at just 14/1, however revellers for the UK dates have already been put in a queue to join the queue for tickets, as one person said it 'could not be more British.' In Ireland fans were mortified to discover they were stuck behind 557,000 others in the queue - as the sales appear to begin to dwindle for those two dates. Whereas Manchester-based promoter SJM Concerts' website Gigs and Tours is unable to load since around 8.10am.

Fury as Newcastle University urges staff to drop the Geordie nickname 'pet' and even the word 'bossy' because they're 'sexist' - with locals slamming the call 'totally stupid'

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 20, 2024
Geordies have slammed Newcastle University for urging researchers to not use the word 'pet' - after bosses deemed it sexist. Diversity chiefs labelled the Tyneside slang 'patronising' in an equality and inclusion toolkit issued to researchers. Their seven-page guide instructs readers to 'avoid... terms, such as girls, pet, or ladies' and asks that groups are referred to as 'friends or colleagues' instead. Paul Thorne (top right), 52, a hospital worker in the city said the move was 'totally stupid', while Catherine Harris (bottom right), 73, said: 'I would say tell universities to stick to your studies.'

In this world, a puppy can't be released before it's weaned.' 'You are not allowed to do so,' she said. The 41-year-old, a devout Christian who referred to him as a "darling" of the Tory party, is co-chairman of the New Conservatives, a powerful group of backbenchers. www.dailymail.co.uk, August 26, 2023
Alan White, 91, (right) was still shaken nearly 24 hours after the horrific ordeal in Wannanup's south-west of Perth, where he bravely returned to the scene. Since WA Police were alerted of the horrific road rage incident in a beachside parking garage on Friday afternoon, a man, 70, has since been charged. A motorcycle pulled up beside Mr White as he was getting out of his red SUV when a woman appeared. Mr White appears to be kicking the rider's side of the bike before confronting the grandfather of seven (left). Mr White continues to stand his ground until he's reportedly punched in the chest several times and collapsed to the ground, where he's repetitively kicked.
