Test reveals if you're at risk of ultra-deadly pancreatic cancer - here's how YOU can take it
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 11, 2024
Pancreatic cancer, famed for subtle and symptoms that means for the vast majority of cases are only caught in its later and deadlier stages, kills almost 10,000 Brits each year. But a new tool hopes to turn the tide and boost survival rates for the disease. Charity Pancreatic Cancer UK, with the support of NHS England, are launching The Family History Checker an online resource which helps people assess their genetic risk of pancreatic cancer. One person who knows all too well the fear of inheriting pancreatic cancer is Rachel Smith (left). The 42-year-old has seen both her father and brother been hit by the disease. Tragically, for her brother Jim (tope right) the diagnosis turned out to be a fatal one.
There's a subtle change to your toilet habits that could be a 'hidden' early sign of deadly pancreatic cancer, say experts

At present the majority of 10,000 people diagnosed with the disease each year die within three months, and part of the problem is that it's often spotted too late. One high-profile sufferer, former England manager, Sven Goron-Eriksson recently issued a public farewell as he faces his last months of life. The football legend, who features in a newly released Amazon Prime documentary about his life, was diagnosed in January. To coincide, Pancreatic Cancer Action is urging the public to be vigilant about the 'hidden' warning signs of the disease, which are often overlooked.

Dave Smith suffered pain in his abdomen and changes to his bowel movements for more than a year before agreeing to see a doctor in 2023. But tests confirmed he did not have a condition that would affect his gut. It was only in January when the 58-year-old suddenly woke up in the middle of the night fearing he was suffering a heart attack that tests showed he had multiple tumours on his liver and pancreas. After doctors diagnosed him with pancreatic cancer in February, he lost four stone in just two months and decided he was too unwell to receive chemotherapy. He died weeks later at home on May 28.

DANIEL HANNAN: If our civil servants were firing on all cylinders then rainbow lanyards might be a harmless indulgence. But this obsessive wokery makes them worse at their jobs
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 14, 2024
At some point in 2021, civil servants routinely began to add their preferred pronouns to their email signatures. These pronouns are rarely surprising. I have never found myself thinking: 'Thank heavens you gave me a steer on the she/her thing, or I'd have got it wrong.' They are intended, in other words, not as helpful information, but as tribal signifiers, a way of saying: 'I Am A Good Person Who Believes In Diversity'.

Some senior retired mandarins have just produced a report, 'The World in 2040', which sets out their vision of how Britain should conduct itself as a 'medium-sized off-shore nation'. In essence, they think we should be humbler, readier to pool our sovereignty and less hung up on our past.
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is toughened up from U to PG by film classifiers due to 'strength of violence' - over scenes including Darth Maul being chopped in half by a lightsaber
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 9, 2024
The age rating for Star Wars movie The Phantom Menace has been toughened up from a U to a PG by film classifiers, ahead of 25th anniversary screenings. It includes violent scenes which show villain Darth Maul chopped in half by a lightsaber and Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn being stabbed through the torso. As a result, the British Board of Film Classification has tightened up the age classification for the film, with a warning the film includes 'moderate violence, mild threat'. The BBFC said a 'key consideration' for the raising of the classification was the 'strength of violence' in the film. It added the violent scenes in the film 'fit more comfortably' with a PG rating. Recent research by the film body showed that on-screen violence was of 'increased concern' to audiences. This research has helped shape the new classification guidelines that are introduced next month.

As the film classification board tightens its hand on sex scenes and violence on film, but is cannabis-friendly?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
March 20, 2024
According to studies published by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) for the most recent update to its classification policies, attitudes toward cinematic violence and risqué content have remained stubborn in the last five years. According to the film ratings board, it may need higher ratings for violent and sexual scenes (Vita & Virginia, bottom right), but films' attitudes towards the use of cannabis and solvents have softened since its last rule revision in 2019, which has less stringent ratings. As a result, kid blockbuster Bumblebee (bottom left) and James Bond classic From Russia With Love (top right) will be rated from a PG to a 12A in 2024, but Bob Marley's One Love (top left) got a 10A and was released as a 12A.
As top experts acknowledge that the rise of deadly disease has baffled young women and girls, alarming over 20% rise in pancreatic cancer in young women and girls
www.dailymail.co.uk,
February 23, 2024
Cancer experts have been encouraged to publish more research into a 'frightening' rise in pancreatic cancer rates in younger women, with the incidence up by more than 50% since the 1990s. Overall, incidences of the disease, which has a five-year survival rate of just 5 percent, have increased by around 17 percent over the same period, with increasing obesity rates suspected to be behind the trend. On the other hand, oncologists are unable to explain the particular rise in young women, with no such rise in men of the same age. According to MailOnline, Professor Karol Sikora, a world-renowned oncologist with more than 40 years, there are theories that have to do with the modern diet. However, so far, analysts haven't a clue' about the 'frightening' trend, especially among young women. 'It has to do with diet change over the past 20 years,' he said. Thankfully, pancreatic cancer is uncommon in young people, but it is nonetheless worrying.' We're not sure we have all the answers,' it says.' He added that Britain wasn't alone in this trend, with studies from the United States finding similar rises in the disease throughout the Atlantic, and that more research was needed to determine the source. Nicola Smith, senior health information manager at Cancer Research UK, said more research was required to determine why pancreatic cancer rates in the United Kingdom were increasing. The number of 'pancreatic cancer cases in the United Kingdom is on the rise, and we've seen a small rise in the number of young women being diagnosed.' 'More study is now required to fully understand why this is happening.' Pancreatic cancer kills about 10,000 British people every year, with subtle signs that may not be apparent in its final stages. Becki Buggs (top right), 45, who was one of the few patients whose cancer was detected early enough for surgery, was one of the rare survivors of the disease.

Has your partner kissed someone else at their Christmas work party?I'm a divorce lawyer and here's 4 ways to handle festive infidelity (and it doesn't have to spell a split)
www.dailymail.co.uk,

The annual office Christmas party is a common hotspot for infidelity. Limitations may blurt out with the blend of a celebratory spirit, laid-back atmosphere, and free flowing beverages. Social interactions at these events are increasingly casual and less guarded, resulting in situations where individuals may be encouraged to participate in behaviour they would never normally consider. Colleagues, who work in a corporate environment, find themselves in a more relaxed social space, providing opportunities for unexpected connections and instances of infidelity. At a festive work party, FEMAIL spoke to Ayesha Vardag, Britain's top divorce lawyer, who gave her tips on how to behave whether you've cheated or been tricked. Even in seemingly jovial settings, she advised that maintaining open communication and boundaries was critical to ensure that festive cheer does not result in problems within families.

Thankfully, the Blucerchiati boss took no offense to the gesture and the pair hugged in a hug after Pirlo's wild shaking.
