ISABEL BALDWIN AT TPC RIVER HIGHLANDS: Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim toasted their joint birthday with a pizza party ahead of the Travelers Championship earlier this week. But on Sunday, it was the World No. 1 spoiling the party for his fellow birthday boy. The final round of The Travelers Championship proved to be more of a test of will than skill. Luckily for Scheffler, he possesses both. Used to lie-ins over the weekend, the World No. 1 suffered a rude awakening at the US Open last week. But Sunday, he was back to his regular scheduling. 11:15am: Tee off in the leading group. 4:50pm: Weekly trophy lift. It's a routine he's now gone through six times this season, twice in three weeks, and four times at a PGA Tour signature event. The one new addition to the programme? A wild playoff shootout against his close friend.

ISABEL BALDWIN AT TPC RIVER HIGHLANDS: Cameron Young bolted into the co-lead with an explosive 11-under 59 during the third round of the Travelers Championship but even he knew it wouldn't last long. 'It could be anywhere from two to 10, who knows,' Young answered when asked how far back he thought he could be Sunday. Finally, at 8:35pm, Young got his answer: Five. Young may have set the blistering pace but four hours after he began his conquest of TPC River Highlands, the leaders were quick out of the gate and it was neck and neck… and neck and neck and neck.

Spectators were struck by lightning at the PGA Tour's Travelers Championship as thunderstorms tore through Cromwell, Connecticut, Saturday afternoon. Play was suspended at 3:30pm ET during the third round of the Tour's final signature event as dangerous weather threatened the tournament at TPC River Highlands.  Fans were urged to seek shelter from the inclement weather as players were rushed to the safety of the clubhouse but despite the precautions, two spectators were struck by a lightning strike almost an hour after the klaxon sounded.

Scottie Scheffler reveals he spent three-hour Travelers Championship delay changing DIRTY DIAPERS

ISABEL BALDWIN AT TPC RIVER HIGHLANDS: Scottie Scheffler may be World No. 1 on the golf course but the moment he steps off it, his dad mode is activated.  That was laid bare by the thunderstorm delay during round two of The Travelers Championship Friday.  Scheffler, who celebrated his 28th birthday Friday, had further cause to celebrate on the course as he chased down fellow birthday boy Tom Kim at the top of the leaderboard.  However, the weather rained on his parade when the klaxon sounded at 4:11pm ET following 16 holes of Scheffler's round, and wife Meredith was seemingly more than ready to hand over the parenting duties.

Travelers Championship Round Two: Tom Kim celebrates turning 22 with the lead, while fellow birthday boy Scottie Scheffler also has cause to celebrate

ISABEL BALDWIN AT TPC RIVER HIGHLANDS: Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim gorged on pizza together Wednesday in an early toast to their joint birthday but following the big day itself, they will both aiming to be the other's party-pooper come Sunday. Kim revealed Thursday that his early birthday wish would have been a few more birdies during the opening round of The Travelers Championship. On Friday, that wish was granted. Kim celebrated his birthday by sealing the 36-hole lead of 13-under at the final no-cut, 71-player signature event of the PGA Tour season. Not a bad way to turn 22 but the revelry could yet get grander, if he can keep the party raging through the weekend. A second blemish-free trip around TPC River Highlands in the heat teed Kim up to unwrap the greatest gift of all come Sunday: A $3.6million check.

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 8, 2024
Akshay Bhatia earned a trip to the first major of the year next week after a wild finish at the Texas Open. In a playoff against hard-luck Denny McCarthy, Bhatia, who was the first Drive, Chip and Putt participant to qualify for the Masters, won the Texas Open at TPC San Antonio. However, he was just too late, shouldering his left shoulder while pumping his arms on a 12-foot birdie to force a playoff. Rediscovered: The unbelievable Scottie Scheffler streak that came to an end on a parody at Houston Open (but not the world No. 1) was a little boy. 1 can still create history and win his third PGA tour event in a row this weekend! (The book version of The Odyssey)

The top-ranked player globally had been showing spectacular form, posting a streak of 28 under par rounds on the PGA Tour before running into some putting woes on the 18th green. Scheffler's last round at the Memorial Park Golf Course had him card a double-bogey on the par four, resulting in an even-par round of 70 holes. His second shot was a bunker, and even chipping into the green, his first putt grazed the lip of the hole, with the second missing from just under two feet.
