Serena Williams returns to US Open as tennis legend enjoys Day Seven in Flushing with Alicia Keys, John Mayer and other stars

Tennis legend Serena Williams returned to the US Open on Sunday, not as a player, but as a spectator. After retiring in 2022 and not attending the tournament the following year, this was Williams' first trip to Flushing Meadows since her third-round exit was authored by Ajla Tomljanovic. Two years later, Williams took to WTA's Billie Jean King Tennis Center to enjoy Day Seven of the tournament. The six-time US Open winner enjoyed the action with pop star and New York native Alicia Keys.
Serena Williams sports throwback look as she returns to US Open for the FIRST time since she stepped away from tennis two years ago

The Queen of Queens was back on her thrown Saturday, as 23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams returned to the US Open. And she arrived in style by bringing back an old look: a denim skirt similar to the one she sported while competing in New York in 2004, when she fell to Jennifer Capriati in a controversial quarterfinal matchup. That match, which was plagued by poor umpiring, was cited later when electronic line-calling was introduced to Grand Slam tennis. Saturday was the first visit to the U.S. Open by Williams since 2022, when she played there in the final tournament of her career. She made it to the third round then before losing to Ajla Tomljanovic in her last match, although Williams was careful not to say she was retiring, but rather described it as 'evolving' away from professional tennis.
Emma Raducanu produces statement straight sets victory against Elise Mertens to advance to the third round of the women's singles at Wimbledon

Emma Raducanu brushed aside Elise Mertens at Wimbledon to reach the third round of a grand slam for the first time since her US Open triumph. Back on Court One for the first time since her breakthrough run to the fourth round here three years ago ahead of that historic New York fortnight, Raducanu seized control from the start and raced to a 6-1 6-2 victory. In 2021, the occasion was ultimately too much for the then teenager and she retired with breathing difficulties against Ajla Tomljanovic.
