Since then, he has appeared in more than 103 films and ten plays.
He is one of Egypt's most well-known actors and comedians, the Arab world, complete MENA, and even has some international recognition throughout his career.
Emam's performances have included slapstick, farce, and even occasional double entendre.
His personality archetype is a guy who lives above average outsider pressures. Emam was named by the United Nations in January 2000 as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR.
Personal life
Adel Emam is married and has three children: Rami Imam, Sarah Emam, and Mohamed Emam, who also appeared in the film The Yacoubian Building as Taha ElShazli. He is the brother of Esam Imam and Iman Imam. Mustafa Metwalli, his brother-in-law, was in jail.
Amin Shalaby and the late Younes Shalaby, as well as Saeed Saleh, were his best friends since university, according to Adel Emam, who was on a talk show hosted by Hala Sarhan.
Emam was sentenced (in absentia) to three months in jail for defending Islam in February 2012. Imam Ahmad said he would appeal the conviction. Emam won his appeal on September 12, 2012, after a Cairo misdemeanours court found him of defaming Islam in his films.
Career
Emam started his career in theater in Ana (62), Fouad El-Mohandes and Shwikar (1966), My Wife's Dignity (1967), and My Wife's Goblin (1968) with leading actress Salah Zulfikar and Shadia (1968). He appeared in Virgo (1970) with Salah Zulfikar (1971) and in Find a scandal (1973) with Mervat Amin. Later, he began to act in starring roles in The Suspect (1981) and Love in a Jail Cell (1983), both directed by Soad Hosny.
He is a key national figure in Egypt largely because of the Egyptian political roles he played in several of his films and plays, but he has always concentrated on Egypt's political and religious issues. These roles, whether he intended it or not, often put him in a difficult situation vis-à-vis the president or the government, such as in the film version of Salah Zulfikar (1994) as he was in a critical role. Emad Adeeb has appeared in films including Morgan Ahmed Morgan (2007), Hassan and Marcus (2008), starring Omar Sharif.
He appeared in The Embassy in the Building in 2005, portraying a Cairene everyman who was distraught when the Embassy of Israel moved to Jerusalem. Emam was one of the ensemble cast of The Yacoubian Building, a film that was said to be the highest-budget in Egyptian cinema and based on the book of the same name. Through the prism of a decaying downtown Cairo apartment building, the tale is a sharp glimpse at modern Egyptian life. Emam portrays an elderly roué whose misadventures form a central strand of the film's intricate plot.
