Amateur career
Ancer was born in McAllen, Texas, and he was born partially in Reynosa, Mexico; and he holds dual American and Mexican citizenship. He attended Sharyland High School in Mission, Texas. He played college golf at Odessa College and the University of Oklahoma, from which he graduated in 2013 with a degree in General Studies.
Ancer was a member of the Junior College National Golf Championships in Odessa for one year. He had his best year in Oklahoma, winning twice and setting the sixth-lowest scoring average in Oklahoma history of 72.03. He came in second place in all-time scoring averages during his entire career.
Professional career
In 2013, Ancer turned professive. He finished 35th at the end of the Web.com Tour Qualifying School final stage in December 2014. He competed on the Web.com Tour in 2015, finishing runner-up at the Brasil Championships in March and winning the Nova Scotia Open in July.
He came in 11th on the regular season money list, earning him a PGA Tour card for the 2016 season. Ancer's rookie year was a failure, with a best finish at T-18 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
