Aaron Kozak (born August 23, 1983) is an American playwright and filmmaker.
Early life
Kozak was born in Nacogdoches, Texas. After graduating from Grapevine High School, he went on to study theater at the University of Oklahoma (OU), where he earned a B.F.A. in Drama.
Career
"Goodbye, Love," Kozak's debut play "Goodbye, Love." Goodbye, Joy. Travis McElroy, "Hello, Travis McElroy" debuted at mixed reviews at the Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, D.C. in 2009. However, it was Kozak's sophomore drama "The Birthday Boys" that earned him international acclaim. During the Iraq war, three marines are tied and blindfolded for almost the entire play, the drama dramatizes a Prisoner of War scenario. "The Birthday Boys" received five main award nominations, including Best of the Festival, and the Fringe First Award for Best World Premiere in the 2010 world premiere, including Best of the Festival. "The Birthday Boys" opened off-Broadway in 2011 and became the first live theatre performance at the historic Texas Theatre in Dallas after the Vain era of Vaindesville. Along with the Broadway Tour of Billy Elliot the Musical, the run was rated as Dallas' best touring show of 2011. "The Birthday Boys" made its international debut at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, Australia.
Kozak's most recent work, a western epic called "Round Rock," premiered at sold-out performances at the 2012 Fringe Festival and gained another award for Fringe First Prize.
