He played college basketball for the California Golden Bears.

Early life

Anderson was born in Sacramento, California, and attended Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, near Sacramento, California. Jack Anderson and Sue Anderson are his parents, and he is very close to his grandparents.

Personal life

Anderson was in a relationship with former Bachelor contestant and actress Gia Allemand, who committed suicide in August 2013. Anthony Davis, a former teammate, and he and his wife were escorting 75 underprivileged children on a shopping spree in Toys-R-Us in 2014, and they gave 2,000 Pelicans tickets in 2015. High school career

Anderson helped lead the Oak Ridge Trojans to the Division II California State Championship in 2005. The game was played at Arco Arena in Sacramento. Anderson's No. 1 in the first round of the playoff tournament series. Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback of a John H. Pitman High School team, barely averted an upset against a John H. Pitman High School team led by Colin Kaepernick, who would later go on to become a NFL San Francisco 49ers quarterback. Kaepernick scored 34 points in that game, while Anderson scored 50.

Anderson, who was considered a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, was ranked No. 68 as the No. 1 in his category. The No. 22 power forward and the No. 1 in the United States. In 2006, he was the country's highest player.

College career

Anderson played for the California Golden Bears in 66 games, averaging 18.7 points and 9.0 rebounds in 33.0 minutes per game. He was a freshman with the Bears, scoring 16.3 points and 8.2 rebounds, and was named Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honors. He went on to be named Second Team All-America by The Sporting News and was awarded First Team All-Pac-10 honors as a sophomore in 2007–08. He led the Pac-10 in scoring, averaging 21.1 points (ranked 18th in the country) and ranked third in rebounding, taking down 9.9 rebounds per game.

Anderson announced for the NBA draft on April 3, 2008, forgoing his last two years of college eligibility.

Professional career

Anderson was selected with the New Jersey Nets' 21st overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft on June 26, 2008. On October 29, 2008, he made his NBA debut against the Washington Wizards. During his rookie season with New Jersey, he averaged 7.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in 19.9 minutes per game, ranked 10th among all NBA rookies in three-point field goal percentage (.365 – 69-of-189).

Anderson and Vince Carter were traded to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie, and Courtney Lee on June 25, 2009. He appeared in 63 games with Orlando between 2009 and 2010, scoring 7.7 points and 3.2 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per game. He appeared in six games during the regular season and played in nine playoff games.

Anderson appeared in 64 games (14 starts) with Orlando, averaging 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in 22.3 minutes per game. He played in nine games during December 2010, owing to a strained right foot.

Anderson received the NBA Most Improved Player Award in 2011-2012 after averaging 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds in 61 games. He led the NBA in three-point field goals and attempted, while ranking seventh in free throw percentage, tied for 27th in three-point field goal percentage, placing 29th in rebounding and 33rd in scoring.

Anderson was traded by the New Orleans Hornets on July 11, 2012, transferring Gustavo Ayón to the Magic. He appeared in 81 games (22 starts) and averaged 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game during his first season with the Hornets in 2012–13. He finished second in the NBA with a career-best 213 three-point field goals made in 557 attempts (38.2%). In April 2013, the Hornets renamed themselves the Pelicans.

In a 131–128 triple overtime victory over the Chicago Bulls on December 2, 2013, Anderson scored his career-high 36 points. In the Pelicans' 95-92 victory over the Boston Celtics on January 3, 2014, Anderson sustained a neck injury while colliding with Gerald Wallace. Anderson, who had to be excused from the court on a stretcher, needed neck surgery and was ruled out for the remainder of the season in late March. He played just 22 games in 2013-2014, averaging 19.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

Anderson made his Pelicans return to the Pelicans on October 28, 2014 in their season-opening match against the Orlando Magic. In a 101-84 victory, he scored 22 points and 9 rebounds off the bench in 22 minutes of action. After being diagnosed with an MCL sprain in his right knee, he was out for two to four weeks on February 22, 2015. He returned to action on April 1st and completed the regular season, as well as playing in the team's four playoff games.

Anderson continued to play a vital role for the Pelicans in 2015–16. In a 109-107 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on January 15, 2016, he scored a then-season-high 32 points and six three-pointers. In a 116-99 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, he scored 23 points and tied a season record with six three-pointers. The Pelicans scored a franchise-best 17 three-pointers in the game. In the first half of the Pelicans' 114-105 victory over the Sacramento Kings on January 28, he scored 30 of his career high-tying 36 points. Anderson's 30 first half points were the highest single point in his seventh game of the season. Anderson missed the team's final 14 games of the season after being diagnosed with a sports hernia in late March.

Anderson signed with the Houston Rockets on July 9, 2016. In a 120–114 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on October 26, he made his Rockets debut in their season opener, scoring 14 points and six rebounds. In a 132-127 double overtime victory over the Golden State Warriors on December 1, he scored his season-high 29 points. In a 115-109 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on December 23, he set a new season record of 31 points.

The Rockets began working to move Anderson's large contract during the 2017 offseason. Anderson agreed to downplay the risk on his $21 million salary in 2019–20 to $15.6 million, clearing the way for a trade out of Houston during the 2018 offseason.

Anderson was traded by the Phoenix Suns and rookie guard De'Anthony Melton in exchange for Brandon Knight and Marquese Chriss on August 31, 2018.

Anderson was traded to the Miami Heat in exchange for Wayne Ellington and Tyler Johnson on February 6, 2019. The Heat waived Anderson on July 6, 2019.

Anderson signed with the Houston Rockets on September 27, 2019, but he was cut on November 18, 2019.
