Career

Day Self-released her debut album Powered by Love in 2009. A family friend sponsored and recorded the album. The initial success of Powered by Love attracted the attention of BMG Publishing, who linked her with Civil War historian John Paul White and Meghan Trainor for writing sessions.

Dayself-released her first extended play, Cynics vs. Dreamers, in 2012. Wally Gagel and Xandy Barry of Wax Ltd created "Simple Song" on the album.

In addition, she unveiled a cover of The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army," which made her number one on Hype Machine's charts. On Spotify, the song has over 50 million views. Day appeared on Sultan & Ned Shepard's "All These Roads" alongside Sam Martin in 2013. Billboard lauded the single, which premiered in early October 2014 on Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 broadcast, for its "ebbs and flows with harmonies and rhythmic shifts."

"Sweet Ophelia" was the first single off of the Zella Day EP in April 2014, with the b-side "1965". Gianennio Salucci directed the music video, which was released on April 7, a day ahead of the 7" release by tastemaker B3Sci Records in coordination with Day's Pinetop Records, a wholly owned imprint of Hollywood Records.

On September 23, 2014, the Zella Day EP was released. According to Atwood's magazine, it was described as a "intangible tapestry of sound and raw emotion, blanketing the pop, alternative, and folk genres." The EP reached its high point at No. 91. 16 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart chart, with critical acclaim. The EP's final track, "Hypnotic," was chosen as an iTunes Single of the Week and later revealed as the second single from the album. Day appeared on "Electric Love" acoustic version of Borns' "Electric Love" from his debut EP, Candy, in December 2014.

Kicker, her second studio album, was announced on February 27, 2015. Gianennio Salucci directed the video, which now has over 8 million views on Vevo. Day debuted the single "High" in May 2015 and performed it live on Conan for the next month.

Kicker was released on June 2, 2015 by Pinetop Records and Hollywood Records. The album's name refers to the old Arizona mining town where Day's parents married when researching unhealthy relationships, divorce, broken homes, love, and passion. "The music's spirituality is obviously influenced by the mountains in Northern Arizona, which shielded my creative energy from any outsider's bounds of city mentality," she explained on the album. The record was praised as the country's most accessible yet glorious album to date, and it debuted at number 65 on the US Billboard 200 and number seven on the US Top Alternative. Day's unique "own charmed look" was lauded by Interview Magazine, and BlackBook Magazine declared, "This girl's on her way to being a household name."

Carson Daly performed on Last Call on December 17, 2015. On Late Night with Seth Meyers, she appeared on "Hypnotic" on January 4, 2016. Billboard Hot 100 Fest, Music Midtown, and the iHeart Radio Music Festival were her third national television appearance. Zella Day's debut at Coachella in 2016 caught the attention of Los Angeles Magazine, which praised her set as "hypnotic"; Billboard, which praised her set as "stellar"; and Consequence of Sound, which said, "it's entirely possible that Zella Day looks back on Coachella 2016 as the year she started her career as the most prominent vocalist."

On May 4, 2016, Carson Daly's "Mustang Kids" live, a musical guest on Last Call with Carson Daly, announcing her new song, "Mustang Kids." "Mustang Kids" was the latest single to be announced on June 9, 2016, including a guest verse from Florida-bred rapper Baby E. and a music video directed by Tim Mattia. Day announced a 7" release on B3Sci in October 2016. "Hunnie Pie" was a B-side to the "Man on the Moon" 7 in November 2016. Day wrote a letter on November 29, 2018, a tycoon of her label and production deal. On December 14, she released a video announcement alongside a new song named "I Don't Know How To End" on her website. In 2018, Day appeared as a visitor on Lana Del Rey's Los Angeles to the Moon Tour.

Day performed a "For Free" cover with Weyes Blood and Lana Del Rey for her The Norman Fucking Rockwell. On October 10, 2019, the Hollywood Bowl will host a tour show. The trio appeared at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles later this year.

On October 25, she unveiled "You Sexy Thing" on the back of her. Day and "My Game" in April and May were released as a result of signing a deal with Easy Eye Sound and Concord Records, as well as accompanying music videos. Where Does the Devil Hide? The 27-year-old singer released an EP titled Where Does the Devil Hide on April 27. In July, "Purple Haze" and "Only a Dream" were released, followed by the unveiling of "Purple Haze" and "Only a Dream."

She released her third album in Heaven on October 14, 2022, on Sunday.
