Edgar Morais (born June 25, 1989) is an actor, writer, and producer.

Morais began his acting career on stage, including the Portuguese Golden Globe Laureate version of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar directed by Luis Miguel Cintra.

In Catarina Ruivo's drama From Now On, he made his debut as an actor.

Personal life

Morais was born in Portugal to an antique restorer mother and a contractor father. He was born in Lisbon and attended EPTC, one of Portugal's oldest and most prestigious acting institutes. Morais speaks fluent English, Portuguese, French, and Spanish.

Theater career

In 2006, Morais made his stage debut at the Mirita Casimiro Theater in Lisbon, William Shakespeare's Macbeth. Since being in many theater performances, including Moliere's A Rehearsal at Versailles, Brian Friel's Lovers, Jean Genet's Deathwatch, and Arnold Wesker's The Kitchen, he has appeared in several theater productions.

During Luis Miguel Cintra's directed version of William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Morais is also known for his role as Lucius in the Portuguese Golden Globe winning version of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar directed by Luis Miguel Cintra at Lisbon's S'o Luiz Municipal Theatre.

Film career

In 2007, when still in theater school, Morais made his acting debut in From Now On (winner of the Audience Award at Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival), directed by Locarno Film Festival's alumna Ruivo.

While in Los Angeles, Edgar was cast in the hit television series CTRL, directed by Robert Kirbyson starring Steve Howey and Tony Hale, and Qu'orianka Kilcher's (Terrence Malick's The New World) directional debut film, Saudade. In The Monogamy Experiment starring Beth Behrs and Michael Welch, and in Julian Wayser's Oh Gallow Lay, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2015 in the Horizons section, Morais also appeared in Chasing Eagle Rock directed by Erick Avari, as well as Beth Behrs and Michael Welch.

In the forthcoming Chalk directed by Victoria Mahoney alongside Shiloh Fernandez and Mirrah Folks, Morais can also be seen in Best Picture Winner Marfa Girl's 2018 sequel Marfa Girl 2, directed by Larry Clark, and in the forthcoming Chalk directed by Victoria Mahoney.

Leah Pipes, Michael Welch, and Paul James Jordan appear in Heatstroke, Morais' first narrative directorial debut. In the official selection at IndieLisboa International Film Festival on May 4th, 2019, where it competed for the Short Film Grand Prize, the short film had its world premiere. Heatstroke went on to screen in competition at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, Maryland Film Festival, Beverly Hills Film Festival, FEST New Directors New Film Festival, and Method Fest Independent Film Festival, among other things. The film received the CinEuphoria Award for "Best Screenplay" and "Top Short Film of the Year," as well as the rest of the country on RTP.

Edgar was one of only ten actors selected to participate in "Passaporte" by the Portuguese Academy of Cinema (Academia Portuguesa de Cinema) in 2019 to introduce and promote Portuguese cinema talents to some of the country's most influential casting directors.

We Won't Forget, Edgar Morais and Lucas Elliot Eberl's short film directed by Edgar Morais and Lucas Elliot Eberl's short film, had its world premiere in Palm Springs, 2021, at Palm Springs International ShortFest. Whitney Able and the filmmakers co-wrote the film, which culminates in a collective hysteria of a woman whose emotions rise to the surface while staging a party for her friends. Among other things, Edgar Morais appears in the film alongside John Patrick Amedori, Paul James, Davida Williams, and Caitlyn Folley. The film premiered at the Hamptons International Film Festival, Tirana International Film Festival, Woodstock Film Festival, Rooftop Film Festival, and IndieLisboa International Film Festival among others. We won the Grand Jury Prize, as well as the Best Editing Award at Castrovillari Film Festival and the jury's Honorable Mention at the 2022 Sophia Awards (Portuguese Academy Award).

In 2023, the USA/Portugal coproduction is set to be released.
