Jonatan Leandoer Hstad (born 18 July 1996), also known as Yung Lean, is a Swedish rapper, singer, guitarist, record producer, and fashion designer.
Born in Stockholm, he rose to fame in 2013 with his album "Ginseng Strip 2002," which became a big hit on YouTube.
Unknown Death 2002, Yung Lean's debut mixtape, and Unknown Memory followed him the next year.
He introduced the mixtape Frost God and his second studio album, Warlord, in 2016.

Early life
Hestad was born in Minsk to Kristoffer Leandoer, a Swedish poet, fantasy author, and translator of French literature who worked with LGBT organisations in Russia, Vietnam, and South America, and she had been ambassador to Albania until 2019. Arnold Wesker, a British-Jewish playwright, was his maternal grandfather.
Hstad spent his youth in Minsk, Belarus, where his mother moved the family so Hstad could have a similar childhood as her. When H.stad was between the ages of three and five, the family returned to Sweden and settled in Stockholm. He was born in the city's Södermalm district. Hstad was a student at UNIS Hanoi from 6th to tenth grade. Hstad was often suspended for doing drugs or writing graffiti during his time in high school. He had worked at a local McDonald's as well. When he was 15, he was banned from smoking marijuana. Hstad began to become interested in hip hop music, quoting 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin', The Latin Kings' Mitt Kvarter, and Nas' Illmatic as his early influences.
Personal life
Hstad is writing a screenplay about a "strange gangster romance" and a rock opera about John Ausonius, a Swedish serial killer, out of music. Hattie has aspirations to be a performer.
H.stad has a variety of hobbies, including reading, ceramics, painting, writing, and playing piano. Following his release from a mental health hospital as a way to relax, Hstad began painting. In a 2019 interview, Hstad told Kaleidoscope magazine that he suffers from bipolar disorder. He was diagnosed with it in 2017 and now takes drugs for his disease.
Hstad lived in Miami Beach, Florida, while recording his second studio album Warlord. Hstad became addicted to Xanax, lean, and cocaine during this period. In Mount Sinai Medical Center & Miami Heart Institute, H.stad overdosed and was hospitalized on April 7, 2015. The overdose and subsequent hospitalization of Hstad coincided with the death of his boss and a close personal acquaintance, Barron Machat. Following the incident, Hstad returned to Sweden to live with his family.
Career
In 2012, Hstad met Yung Sherman and Gud in a Stockholm park and began a friendship, discovering they loved much of the same music. Another group of Stockholm artists who would later form the group Drain Gang were also members of Hasch Boys.
Hstad, Sherman, and Gud, a few other Hasch Boys, lost interest in the organization and formed "Sad Boys" as a trio. By 2012, Yung Gud and Yung Sherman were producing and mixing music, while Hstad was writing lyrics and recording vocals in a makeshift studio in his basement. They posted their music on SoundCloud and Tumblr, where Lean's fanbase was growing. On May 5, 2013, Sad Boys held their first show in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Yung Lean's song "Ginseng Strip 2002" went viral, with over 73 million views on YouTube as of September 2022. He released Unknown Death 2002 and Lavender, an EP titled "Unknown Death 2002" with other songs that were removed from Unknown Death 2002. "Ginseng Strip 2002" appeared at number 44 on their "Top 50 Songs of 2013, while Vibe included Unknown Death 2002 as "a natural evolution from Lil's free-association, often nonsensical rhymes with a keener sense of melody."
Yung Lean and Sad Boys toured around Europe in 2013. Acclaim Magazine featured Yung Lean as their guest for a "smalltalk" segment later this year, where they asked him about a variety of miscellaneous topics, including his favorite hangover cure and his desktop wallpaper.
The White Marble Tour, founded in 2014 by Yung Lean and Sad Boys, who appeared in 24 cities around Europe. Sad Boys revealed a new Black Marble Tour, which would feature many performances in cities around North America, just short of the end of the tour. The first of these shows took place in July at the Webster Hall in New York City, and writers for magazines including XXL and The New York Times were highly praised.

On September 23, 2014, Yung Lean's debut full-length album titled Unknown Memory was released. The album was accompanied by North American and European tours, beginning on December 1st in New York with a nearly sold-out performance on Webster Hall's main ballroom stage.
On February 25, 2016, Yung Lean's second full-length album, Warlord, was released; he also launched "Sad Boys Entertainment," a line of clothing. On Friday, Yung Lean performed "Hennessy & Sailor Moon," a surprise track on Nov. 25. Bladee (British)" says the narrator. On December 14, he launched the mixtape Frost God with eight songs, including "Hennessy & Sailor Moon" and "Crystal City," which featured A$AP Ferg.
H.stad's third studio album Stranger debuted on November 10, 2017, with the singles "Red Bottom Sky," "Hunting My Own Skin," and "Skimask" releasing through Stockholm's label YEAR0001.
In a conversation with Complex in January 2018, Hstad revealed that he was writing several film scripts, one of which revolved around Swedish serial killer John Ausonius, best known as "The Laser Man." Yung Lean unveiled the single "King Cobra" with Thaiboy Digital in February 2018, as well as a pair with Converse with Converse that consisted of a shoe and several pieces of clothing titled "One Star Toxic."
Hstad debuted his third mixtape Poison Ivy, "Happy Feet," on November 2nd. The album, which is a result of Hstad's frequent collaboration with Whitearmor, debuted at number 44 on the Swedish Albums Charts, the Sverigetopplistan.
Yung Lean recorded his first full-length album under Jonatan Leandoer96's "Nectar" on January 25, 2019, as well as the singles "Wooden Girl," "Nectar," and "Tangerine Warrior." The album delves away from Leandoer's neofolk roots and into an neofolk and indie rock.
Yung Lean published the single "Boylife in Europe" on February 26, 2020, which was produced by frequent collaborator Whitearmor. On March 27, 2020, Yung Lean unveiled a 44-second teaser based on a collection of songs from his forthcoming fourth-studio album "Starz." The Starz tour, which was supposed to begin in late March, was postponed, and Yung Lean's stream, which featured a collection of songs from previous performances, as well as the recently launched "Boylife in EU," owing to the global COVID-19 pandemic. "Violence + Pikachu" was Starz' second single on April 14, 2020. On May 15, 2020, the starz' album, which was produced by Whitearmor and Yung Sherman and featuring Ariel Pink on the album's title track, was released.
"Blodhundar & Lullabies," Yung Lean's second full-length Jonatan Leandoer96 album, will be released on November 9, 2020. The 16-track album was eventually released a month later on December 21.
In My Head premiered in theaters on November 27, 2020. The documentary, directed by music documentarian Henrik Burman, follows Leandoer's early work in the 1960s until the release of Stranger. This includes reflections on the events that occurred in Miami involving Leandoer, fellow artist Bladee, and other individuals, including boss Oskar Ekman, former associate Steven Machat, and journalists from a variety of newspapers including The Fader and Pitchfork. The documentary had been intended to premiere at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the fall of the same year, it was released digitally and in a limited number of theaters.
Yung Lean released a 12-track mixtape titled "Stardust" on April 8th, 2022, which featured FKA twigs, Skrillex, Drain Gang, and Ant Wan.
