Yui Life

Yui (born March 26, 1987), also known as YUI or yui, is a Japanese singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor.

Born and raised in Fukuoka prefecture, she performed live at various venues in her hometown before being noticed by Sony Music Japan when she was 17 years old and released her debut single just months later.

Her singles, on the other hand, were only well-reced until "Good Bye Days," which charted for 44 weeks on Oricon and established her as one of the country's most popular female artists, as well as Radio Television Hong Kong's "Most Popular Japanese Artist" and "Countdown Female Artist" charts from 2007, including five straight from mid-2013 to late 2010, when she first rose from music as a soloist in 2012.

Early life

Yui was born in Fukuoka, Japan, and was born there. Yui Yoshioka is her full name, according to the Associated Press.

She grew up in a single-parent household, with her father abandoning her mother when she was three years old. Yui said she had always been interested in music, as she would recall the beats from radio shows and would be able to perform it. Yui wanted to be a singer in elementary school. She will play outside by herself in mountains, rivers, by the sea, and in rice paddies, self-described as shy and afraid of speaking to others as a child.

She was inspired by her mother to start writing a journal of her thoughts and turn them into poems during her third year in primary school. Yui began writing songs as a way of expressing herself little by little by the time she attended high school. She worked part-time at a Chinese restaurant to help pay for tuition while in high school. She did get one or two hours of sleep between music, school, and work, but she felt she didn't have the time to pursue her dreams of a music career. She later became sick, but it was at the hospital that she was overwhelmed with the desire to make music and that ultimately decided that school and music could not coexist.

She had the opportunity to see her first live street performance a few weeks after leaving the hospital. At the end of the performance, Bianco Nero, a singer, expressed an interest in pursuing a musical career. Yui was encouraged to enroll in a private music academy in juku, according to the band. Yui did not want to drop out of high school and start studying guitar and songwriting at Fukuoka's music cram school "Voice." She took to street at Fukuoka's Tenjin Station aspiring to be a professional. Yui was able to banish her fear of performing on these street shows.

Yui's professional career began in March 2004 when she, on the recommendation of her cram school teachers, registered for an audition hosted by Sony Music Japan. Despite being told that a participant could only perform two songs, she performed "Why Me" (which was later included in her debut Sony Records album), "It's Happi Line," and then half of "I Know" first, which she performed with the judges in the unfinished third album because she wanted the judges to hear a song full of hope.

The judges gave her the highest rating. Although "I Know" was ineffective at the time, the judges were able to get a glimpse of what would later be dubbed "Yui-go" (YUI), or Yui-speak, as nonsensical English hummed to a tune during her songwriting process. In the film Song of the Sun, an example of Yui-go can be found.

Yui's debut single, "It's Happy Line" by indie band Leaflet Records, was released on December 24, 2004, but the printing was limited to only 2,000 copies in her home country, although she also added "I Know" on the track.

Yui penned the song "Feel My Soul" after leaving Fukuoka for Tokyo, a homage to her hometown. Although she had intended to release a major single on an indie label, Fuji Television producer Yamana Gene was so inspired by Yui's words that he insisted on his appearance on the soundtrack for his primetime drama Fukigen na Gene that he didn't want to be released. "Feel My Soul" and "It's Happiness" were two of Fukigen na Gene's songs, and "It's Happi Line" was eventually based on her songs "Feel My Soul" and "It's Happy Line."

Yui's first major debut single "Feel My Soul" was released on February 23, 2005. "Feel My Soul" soared to number 8 on Oricon Weekly Charts in its first week, despite the excitement surrounding the drama tie-in. "Tomorrow's Way" (theme song for the movie Hinokio), "Life" (the final theme for the Bleach anime) and "Tokyo" were not as popular as "Feel My Soul"), and "Tokyo" was only marginally profitable in comparison. Yui's debut album, From Me to You, was a modest success that debuted at number four on the Oricon charts, charting for 121 weeks.

Yui made her acting debut in the full-length feature film Song of the Sun (Taiyou no uta, 2006), which opened on June 17, 2006. At the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, the film was shown for the first time. She had a unique way of approaching her role, including imagining unscripted conversations with other characters and hers, staying in her character's room, and fitting her character's sleep patterns to get a sense of her character. Yui received the Best Newcomer Award for Midnight Sun at the Japan Academy Awards. Yui released her fifth single "Goodbye Days" before the film's release, which was written specifically for the film. With more than 200,000 copies sold, the single is her best-selling single. In Midnight Sun, the three songs on the single are included. The single also re-released "It's Happy Line," the artist's first single.

Yui's newest song, "I Remember You," did well in terms of sales, riding on the success of "Good-bye Days" during the 1980s. The Bleach anime's seventh single "Rolling Star" was chosen as the 5th opening theme. "Cherry" was her eighth single and was included in commercials promoting KDDI, a Listen Mobile Service.

On April 4, 2007, she debuted Can't Buy My Love, her second album. The album debuted at number one on the Oricon charts for two weeks, smashing her entire previous album's sales in a week. Can't Buy My Love has over 680,000 copies. From Me to You, Yui's previous album, is up for auction once more, adding another 9,000 copies to the Oricon count.

On June 13, 2007, Yui released "My Generation/Understand," her ninth single "My Generation/Understand" was released. It was her first double A-side single. The ending theme for the television drama "Understand" was chosen, and "My Generation" was chosen as the theme for the film "In a Sidecar" (starring her senpai at Stardust Promotions, Yko Takeuchi). The single ranked No. 1 on the Oricon Weekly Charts for the first week since its debut.

"Love & Truth," her tenth single, was released on September 26, 2007. The title track is the theme song to the film Closed Note () (starring Erika Sawajiri, also of Stardust). Her previous two albums were re-released as Winter Sleeve Editions in alternative covers taken from her "Love & Truth" photoshoot during this period. Thank You My Teens, her first live concert DVD, was released on November 14, 2007, which included video of her second live concert tour.

Yui held her first live show at Nippon Budokan on November 19, 2007, which quickly sold out. The Budokan concert was held like a live performance, and a writer from B-Pass called it fitting considering she started as a street performer on Fukuoka's streets.

Yui's eleventh single, "Namidairo," was released on February 27, 2008. Yui composed the song as a "mysterious and sad sounding" insert for the television drama 4 Shimai Tantei Dan. She tried to convey a feeling of saying "I'm fine" in order to not worry one's spouse, and how, in those situations, we often miss little details we don't normally notice. Yui's chorus was a part of her debut on stage.

The promotional video of her 11th single "Laugh Away" was released a week after its 11th debut. The song was included in Glico's "Watering KissMint" commercial. On March 10, 2008, "Laugh Away" was released as a digital single.

I Loved Yesterday, her third studio album, was announced on April 9, 2008. It landed at number one on the Oricon Weekly Charts, selling more than 400,000 copies, behind her second album. "Oh Yeah" was the tenth song on the album and served as the opening theme to Mezamashi TV, a morning television show. The limited edition of the album contained a DVD with music videos of her previous albums and a live video of her Nippon Budokan performance. The album was largely composed of semi-ballads with much of the same themes as her previous albums, such as youth.

"Oui: I Loved Yesterday" began in May 2008 and ran until July, Yui's third tour, "Oui: I Loved Yesterday," began in May 2008 and ended in July.

Yui released "Summer Song" on July 2, 2008, a new top-one on the Oricon Weekly Charts. After "Love & Truth," "Summer Song" sold 83,440 copies in a week, marking the singer's second highest in first-week sales since "Love & Truth."

On November 12, 2008, Yui released My Short Stories, a B-side compilation album that debuted on Oricon at number one. All the B-side tracks of all her singles to date were included on the album, as well as a new song, "I'll Be." Yui is the second female artist to have a B-side compilation album top the charts after Seiko Matsuda's Touch Me in 1984. The last compilation album to debut at No. 1 on the charts. In May 2007, Mr. Children's B-Side took place. "My Short Stories"' sales of her first album From Me to You increased once more.

Yui's blog entry on August 29, 2008, she predicted that her career will be put on hold, and she would not make any public appearances after the album's launch. She said that the break would enable her to fully concentrate on her next year's plans. She co-wrote the song "I Do It" with Okinawa's girl band Stereopony during this break. On April 22, 2009, Stereopony's third album was released.

Yui's official website revealed that she had returned from her five-month hiatus on March 25, 2009. "Again" was the single to commemorate her return from a down-tempo song. The track was chosen as the first opening theme of the new season of the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime, which premiered on April 5, 2009. On June 3, 2009, the single was released. In its first week, "Again" debuted at the top of the Oricon charts, selling over 110,000 copies in its first week. In 2009, the single had the highest opening week for a female act.

On July 27, 2009, Yui-net.com announced the debut of her second double-A side single "It's All Too Much/Never Say Die" on her website. Both a theme and an insert song were included in Kaiji's film adaptation as both a theme and an insert song. The single was released on October 7, 2009, and Kaiji was released on October 10, 2009. In its first week of sales, the single debuted at number 1, selling 75,000 copies, becoming her fifth top-five single. Yui launched "Gloria" on January 20, 2010, selling over 80,000 copies in the first week and once more on the Oricon charts. "To Mother," her next album, was announced on June 2, 2010, but it's already dominated the charts.

Yui's fourth studio album Holidays in the Sun on July 14, 2010, which featured her five singles from "Summer Song" to "To Mother." It was her fourth straight album to debut on the Oricon charts, selling over 300,000 copies and achieving platinum status.

On the November 24, 2010, her single "Rain" was released. On January 26, 2011, Yui's published a double-A version of "It's My Life/Your Heaven." Yui went to Sweden for the shooting of "Your Heaven" music video, as well as a short film showcasing her ride to various places and shops in Sweden.

On March 9, Yui's tour DVD, Holidays in the Sun, was released. "Hello (Paradise Kiss), her latest single, was announced on June 1, 2011, with the A-side and B-side as the theme song and ending song of the live-action film "Paradise Kiss"'s theme song and ending song, respectively. Yui travelled to Hong Kong on June 16, 2011 for her first overseas concert at the AsiaWorld Expo Expo Arena, attracting a capacity audience of 14,000 people.

On July 7, 2011, Yui visited schools in stricken areas from the 2011 Thoku earthquake and tsunami, as well as a charity concert. The emotions and thoughts she felt from her trip are included in her single "Green a. Live" on October 5, 2011. On August 22, it was preview on the Tokyo FM radio show School of Lock. "Green a.Live" debuted on top of the charts and became her first number one single since "To Mother."

How Crazy Your Love, Yui's fifth and final album as a soloist, was released on November 2, 2011. The album debuted on the top of the daily charts, selling just under 50,000 copies on the first day of its introduction, and it would go on to debut at number one on the weekly charts, bringing How Crazy Your Love her fifth straight album to debut at the top of the charts. On November 11, 2011, she began her fifth major tour on November 11, 2011, promoting her new album with cruising as the central theme.

Yui's debut was revealed in Ncon (N), a national school music competition in which schools compete to produce their best interpretations of songs composed by select artists for a particular year. Yui was chosen to participate in the middle school program. The song was eventually revealed as "fight" on R no Housoku (R), and it was announced on September 5, 2012.

She revealed in a video posted on Yui's official Vevo channel on December 18, 2012, that she would be taking a break from music. "Yui is so valuable and special to me, so I'm going to leave it as is for a while." "Actually, part of the reason I'm going into hiatus again is for the sake of my fans," she told her followers. The most important reason is that I don't want them to see me with a broken heart if that happens."

Yui recovered from hiatus shortly after with the help of a new band called Flower Flower, which performed incognito throughout Japan. "Tsuki ()," "Kamisama ()," "Natsu/Aki (/) and "Subarashi Sekai ()" have since been released by the band since releasing four digital and Japan-only singles; "Tosuki (), "Kamisama ()," "Kamisama (), "Subarashii Sekai ()" and "Subarashii Sekai Yui revealed on her band website on March 27, 2014 that she had been diagnosed with a panic disorder, which resulted in the cancellation of several performances. However, the band will debut its first studio album Mi () on November 26, 2014. The album will debut on the weekly Oricon, charting for 11 weeks.

On April 17, 2015, the singer revealed that she had married a man outside of the industry and that she was pregnant. Yui had delivered healthy twin boys in August 2015.

On September 9, 2016, Flower Flower debuted "Takaramono (), the band's first physical album, "Takaramono ()," which debuted at number ten and charted for five weeks. Yui would state, "I didn't think I could perform songs again, and to be honest, I am very glad that I can."

Flower Flower appeared at many festivals in the summer of 2017, including Rock in Japan Festival 2017 and Summer Sonic 2017, fueling rumors that the band would perform a second physical single. The group revealed on August 2, 2017 in a series of concerts in Osaka and Tokyo. Yui will claim that despite the song's initial composition as a "summer" pop rock song, reflected in the pop-like promotion material, during pre-production and recording, the song eventually leaned toward hard rock. When comparing the single to its B-side counterpart "Drama (), Yui felt that combining a strong, western-like coordinated single in "Mannequin" in contrast to the more delicate song "Drama" would bring a nice balance.

Yui denied rumors that the singer had divorced her husband at the end of August 2017, according to the media. She has custody of the twin boys, who she had together.

"Spotlight (), Flower Flower's second studio album, was released on March 14, 2018. Spotlight was released two and a half years after Flower Flower's previous record, Mi, was released, but it featured songs that were recorded and performed live during Flower Flower's early live performances.

Yui wrote the song "Feel My Soul" after moving from Fukuoka to Tokyo as a tribute to her hometown. Although she had intended to debut on an indie label, Fuji Television producer Yamaki was so inspired by Yui's words that she refused to do her work on the music for his primetime drama Fukigen na Gene before releasing a major single. Fukigen na Gene's music was eventually based on her songs "Feel My Soul" and "It's Happy Line," according to her.

Yui's first big debut single "Feel My Soul" was released on February 23, 2005. "Feel My Soul" managed to sell over 100,000 copies and landed at number 8 on Oricon Weekly Charts in its first week, despite the excitement surrounding the drama tie-in. Yui opened her first live show at Nippon Budokan on November 19, 2007, which quickly sold out. The Budokan concert was structured like a live broadcast, and a writer from B-Pass deemed it appropriate considering she was born as a street performer on Fukuoka's streets.

Yui's eleventh album, "Namidairo," was released on February 27, 2008. Yui wrote the song as a "mysterious and sad" substitute for the television drama 4 Shimai Tantei Dan. While writing the song, she attempted to say "I'm fine" in order to not worry one's husband, and yet, we find little things we don't normally notice. Yui's chorus was mistakenly composed during her debut as a singer.

The promotional video for her 11th single "Laugh Away" was released a week after the release of her 11th single. The song was included in Glico's "Watering KissMint" commercial. On March 10, 2008, "Laugh Away" was released as a digital single.

The group revealed that "Mannequin ()" would be released on August 2, 2017 in a series of concerts in Osaka and Tokyo. Yui will say in an interview published on the band's website that despite the song's initial production as a "summer" pop rock song, the band's pop rock album continued to evolve towards hard rock during recording and recording. "Drama" on B-side, Yui's 'Drama' is a good balance, but placing a strong, western-like arranged single in "Mannequin" in contrast to the more mature song "Drama" would give a nice balance.

Yui confirmed by media that Yui divorced her husband at the end of August 2017. She has custody of the twin boys, who she and her brother had together.

On March 14, 2018, Flower Flower released "Spotlight (), the band's second studio album. Spotlight came two and a half years after Flower Flower's previous record, Mi, was released, but it contained songs that were produced and performed live during Flower Flower's early live performances.
