Youssouf Mulumbu Career

Club career

Mulumbu and his family fled to France at a young age, and they settled in Épinay-sous-Sénart, a suburb of Paris. At the age of 13, he began playing for the Paris Saint-Germain Academy. In a match against Auxerre on October 22, he made his Ligue 1 debut under new head coach Guy Lacombe on October 22nd. On September 13, 2006, he signed his first professional contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

He was on loan at Amiens in Ligue 2, scoring once in 29 appearances during the 2007–08 season.

He joined West Bromwich Albion on a trial basis, according to French media on January 26, 2009. On February 2, 2009, the January transfer deadline, he took them on loan with the intention of a long-term contract at the end of the season. Mulumbu's first term at The Hawthorns was postponed due to sickness and he didn't have to wait until April to make his Premier League debut, after being suspended as a sub in a 2–2 draw at Portsmouth. On July 10, 2009, he joined West Brom on a one-year deal for £175,000.

He was named West Brom's Player of the Year by both the club and the fans at the end of the season, and on July 25, 2011, tying himself to the team until 2015 (with the option of an additional year).

Mulumbu defeated Swansea City 2–1 on March 15, 2014, giving Pepe Mel his first victory as head coach.

Mulumbu would sign a free transfer for newly promoted Norwich City on July 1, 2015, according to the city's June 2015 announcement.

Norwich revealed on August 3rd that Mulumbu sustained a fractured metatarsal in a friendly against Brentford that would necessitated surgery and sidelined him for several weeks, effectively ending his season before the game. He would make his League Cup debut against Everton on October 27th, which Norwich lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw. In a 2–1 loss to Manchester City a few days later, he made his Premier League debut on October 31. Mulumbu will be limited to only five league starts and two appearances as a replacement in the 2015–16 season, with Jonny Howson, Alexander Tettey, and Graham Dorrans selected in the center of midfield, and the season will come to an end with Norwich relegated back to the Championship.

Mulumbu stayed with Norwich for the 2016-17 season, but he was denied his first team action. Norwich defeated Nottingham Forest 5–1 on February 11, 2017, the first appearance for the Norwich City since his time as a manager. Mulumbu was one of seven players whose contracts would be released by Norwich at the end of the season, according to the Norwich news on May 2nd.

Mulumbu had signed for Scottish Premiership club Kilmarnock until the end of the 2017-18 season, according to the newspaper on November 22nd. Mulumbu's boss Steve Clarke, who had previously worked with him at West Bromwich, has been reunited with Mulumbu. Kilmarnock defeated Celtic 1–0 on 3 February 2018, with He scoring his first goal on his first appearance. Mulumbu had left Kilmarnock and was not expected to return to the club on July 13, 2018, according to Clarke.

Mulumbu agreed to a two-year contract with Celtic on August 31, 2018. Mulumbu was loaned back to Kilmarnock on January 31, 2019 and played 12 times during his second spell with the Ayrshire club. Mulumbu left Celtic in June 2019 after the club introduced a break clause in his deal. Mulumbu had appeared on three occasions for the Glasgow team.

Mulumbu began training with Kilmarnock in August 2020 after a year out of football. He returned to the club on August 28th on a six-month contract. Mulumbu announced a contract extension on January 11, 2021, extending the club's stay until the 2020-21 season. In May 2021, he left Kilmarnock to fly to France.

Mulumbu returned to Congo on July 31, 2021, following his return to Congo.

International career

Mulumbu was a former member of the France under-20 and under-21 teams. On March 26, 2008, he earned his first cap for the Congo DR national football team against Algeria. Mulumbu's national team suffered badly in 2009, but he decided against international football because his national team lacked professionalism. He resigned from international service on September 23, 2011, citing "numerous difficulties we were encountering within the DR Congo Football Federation" as "many." However, he reversibly opposed this decision in July 2012 and made himself available for the Congo DR national football team.
