Early life and education
Younha was born in South Korea on April 29, 1988, where she first began playing piano at the age of 5. After watching the famous Japanese drama, Gokusen, she began singing in elementary school and later started to teach herself Japanese. Younha, adolescent, attended up to 20 auditions with South Korean record labels but was turned down because she wasn't "good enough to be a celebrity." As a result, she dropped out of high school at the age of 16 to pursue a singing career in Japan. Younha later attended Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, where she concentrated in Japanese.
Career

Younha's second Japanese single, "Houkiboshi," was released on the soundtrack of Bleach's anime film. Houkiboshi's success came to a small audience, with little advertising, and Younha made no television appearances to advertise the single live. Touch Touch's third single, "Touch / Yume no Tsuzuki," with Touch as the theme song, was much more popular and brought her right back to the Oricon Top 20, matching "Houki Boshi"'s success. The single debuted at #5, and on the Daily Chart, it reached #11. Younha's first album, Go!, followed four singles. Younha had moderate success. On the Oricon daily charts, it ranked #10 and #12 on the weekly charts, and #10 on the Oricon daily charts.
Despite numerous tie-ins such as Bleach GC: My Lover," "Te wo Tsunaide" and "Ima ga Daisuki"), Younha's Dream, etc., struggled to duplicate her earlier efforts, with three of them finishing in the lower half of the Oricon Top 100.
