Yeo Jin-goo (born August 13, 1997) is a South Korean actor.

Yeo began his acting career as a child actor, debuting in the film Sad Movie (2005).

He continued to appear in films and television dramas such as A Frozen Flower (2008), Giant (2010), Moon Embracing the Sun (2012), and Missing You (2012), Nicknamed "Nation's Little Brother."

He is best known for his role in the action thriller Hwayi: A Monster Boy (2013), for which he received Best New Actor at the Blue Dragon Film Awards. Since then, he has appeared in the films Shoot Me in the Heart (2015), The Long Way Home (2015), and Warriors of the Dawn (2017).

He has appeared in the dramas Orange Marmalade (2015), The Royal Gambler (2016), Circle (2017), Reunited Worlds (2017), The Crowned Clown (2019), My Absolute Boyfriend (2019), and Hotel Del Luna (2019).

Early life and education

Yeo was born on August 13, 1997. He is the eldest of two siblings and has a younger brother. Yeo wanted to be on television as a child and so his parents begged him to try acting. He began taking acting lessons and eventually made his debut on the big screen with Sad Movie (2005), with the support of his parents.

In 2016, he graduated from Namgang High School, which was an all boys high school. He is currently enrolled in Chung-Ang University's Department of Theater.

Yeo made his debut in 2005's film Sad Movie at the age of eight. Despite having no previous acting experience, he auditioned for Park Hwi-chan and was chosen from a field of 150 candidates. He appeared in his first television drama I Want to Love in 2006, portraying a sickly child of a single mother and the first part in a sageuk drama Yeon Gaesomun as Young Kim Heum-soon.

In 2008, he appeared in the film Iljimae and Tazza as the younger version of the lead roles. For both dramas, he received his first acting award at the SBS Drama Awards as Best Child Actor.

In 2010, he appeared in Giant as the younger brother to Lee Beom-soo's character. This was the first time he completely invested himself in a role and started seriously about acting, according to Yeo.

In 2011, he appeared as a younger protagonist in the historical drama Warrior Baek Dong-soo. In addition, he appeared as a teen Ddol-bok in the drama Deep Rooted Tree for a short time. The appearance was on the invitation of its lead actor Jang Hyuk, who took a liking to Yeo when the latter played his younger version in the drama Tazza.

Yeo came to fame in 2012 when he appeared in the fantasy-period drama Moon Embracing the Sun, portraying a young crown prince. The drama attracted a whopping 40% in viewers and gained "national drama" status. This was followed by a well-received role in Missing You, a melodrama. At the age of 16, he was the youngest male actor to be named with the Best New Actor award in the history of Blue Dragon Film Awards. He was also cast in Potato Star 2013QR3 as an aspiring smartphone application programmer in the same year.

In 2015, he appeared in the film Shoot Me in the Heart, based on Jeong Yu-jeong's best-selling book of the same name. Orange Marmalade, a teen vampire movie based on the webtoon of the same name, was his first leading role on television. At the 2015 KBS Drama Awards, he received the Best New Actor Award for his performance. He appeared in the Korean War film The Long Way Home in the same year. Sol Kyung-gu, his co-star in the film, was highly recommended for the role of Yeong-gwang, but only after Yeong-gwang's casting was confirmed.

Yeongjo appeared in King Yeongjo's SBS drama The Prince Gambler in 2016 and received an Excellence Award at the end of the year's SBS Drama Awards.

Yeo appeared in tvN's science fiction drama Circle and Historical Film Warriors of the Dawn in 2017, both of which premiered in May. He was also cast in a special film, 1987: When the Day Comes, which is based on the June Democratic Uprising. Director Jang Joon-hwan and actor Kim Yoon-seok of Hwayi: A Monster Boy reunited him in the film. He appeared in SBS's Reunited Worlds in July.

Yeo was cast in My Absolute Boyfriend, a Japanese manga story of the same name, in 2018. The following year, it debuted on SBS.

He appeared in tvN's remake of the 2012 Korean film Masquerade, titled The Crowned Clown, starring both clown Haeon and King Yi Heon, which earned him the award for Best Actor - Television at 55th Baeksang Arts Awards. He was cast in the Hong brothers' fantasy mystery drama Hotel del Luna with IU in the same year. The drama was a commercial success, with the highest ratings in its timeslot ever since its debut.

Yeo appeared in the drama Start Up as Jang Young Shil, the AI speaker. In the final episode as a start-up owner named Hong Ji Seok, he made a live action comeo.

Yeo appeared in Beyond Evil, a psychological thriller drama starring Shin Ha-kyun, which premiered in February and aired on JTBC. Shin Ha-kyun and Yeo appeared in the film No Mercy for the Rude (2006), where Yeo played the younger version of Shin's character. Yeo was named as an MC for Girls Planet 999, a television show that aired on Mnet in June 2021.

Yeo appeared in the TvN fantasy-melodrama Link: Eat, Love, Kill as a sous chef at a high-end restaurant in 2022. Yeo will make his big screen debut later this year after five years with Similar, a remake of the 2000 film Ditto.
