Oluyemi Osinbajo, born 8 March 1957, is a Nigerian politician and advocate who is the new Vice President of Nigeria.
He is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Professor of Law, and until his inauguration as Vice President, a Senior Partner with SimmonsCooper Partners, a commercial law firm, he is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Professor of Law and Professor of Law.
Education
Osinbajo was educated at Corona Primary School, Lagos. He attended Igbobi College in Lagos, Nigeria, from 1969 to 1975; the State Merit Award for English Oratory (1972); and the African Statesman Intercollegiate Best Speaker's Prize (1974);
Since graduating with a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) Degree in Law in 1975, he continued to study for his undergraduate degree at the University of Lagos between 1975 and 1978. He also received the Graham-Douglas Prize for Commercial Law, as shown here. He completed the mandatory one-year professional training at the Nigerian Law School, whereon he was allowed to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of Nigeria's Supreme Court. He obtained a Master of Laws degree at the London School of Economics in 1980.
Early career
Osinbajo served as a youth for the Bendel Development and Planning Authority, Bendel State, from 1979 to 1980.
He began teaching law at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, in 1981. He served at the University of Lagos from 1983 to 1986 as a Senior Lecturer in Law. Bola Ajibola, a former advisor and litigator, from 1988 to 1992, he served as an adviser (legal and litigation) to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice. At the age of 23, Osinbajo began lecturing.
He was appointed professor of law and head of the Department of Public Law at University of Lagos from 1997 to 1999.
Osinbajo was a Member of Cabinet, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, as well as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, from 1999 to 2007.
Osinbajo was appointed Senior Partner at Simmons Cooper Partners (Barristers and Solicitors), Nigeria, in 2007.
