Early life and career
Puck was born in Sankt Veit an der Glan, Austria. He learned to cook from his mother, a pastry chef, and was a student at the University of On the other hand, he learned how to cook. After his mother's divorce, Josef Puck took the surname of his stepfather, Josef Puck. Wolfgang's younger sisters and his younger brother were born as a result of the marriage. He trained as an apprentice at L'Oustau de Baumanière in Les Baux-de-Provence, and at Maxim's Paris before heading to the United States in 1973 at age 24. Puck, who spent two years at La Tour in Indianapolis, moved to Los Angeles to become a chef and part owner of Ma Maison Restaurant.
Puck first published Modern French Cooking for the American Kitchen, which was based on his Ma Maison recipes, in 1981, and the restaurant Spago on the Sunset Strip opened in 1982. Puck and Barbara Lazaroff, his ex-wife and business partner, moved the award-winning Spago to Beverly Hills fifteen years ago, in 1997. Since 2004, it has been ranked as one of the Top 40 Restaurants in the United States.
