Edwin Farnham Butler III, a Canadian-American singer, guitarist, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist, was born on April 14, 1980.
He is one of the co-founders of Arcade Fire, a Montreal-based indie rock band.

Early life
Butler was born in Truckee, California, and raised in The Woodlands, Texas, with a Mormon upbringing. Before his brother Will was born, he lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Edwin Farnham Butler II, his father, served as a geologist for oil conglomerate Halliburton in Houston, Texas. Liza Rey's mother, who appeared on the family television show The King Family Show, sang of jazz harp and sings. Butler's parents now live on Mount Desert Island, Maine. Career
Butler moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 2000, where he met his future wife, Régine Chassagne, who he married in 2003. Butler earned a bachelor's degree in religious studies from McGill in 2004.
Butler and Chassagne also participated in the 2005 UNICEF charity effort, "Do They Know It's Hallowe'en?" In addition, the two performers worked on the Richard Kelly film The Box's music.
