Early life

Willow Shields was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the daughter of Carrie and Rob Shields, an art teacher. Autumn and River, her twin sister, and an older brother, River, are both actors.

Career

Shields' first appearance in 2008 was in 2008, where she had a small narrating role in the short film Las Vegas New Mexico 1875. Lisa Rogan appeared on her first film appearance on "In My Humboldt Opinion," a minor character introduced in the episode "In My Humboldt Opinion" (which was released in 2009. Shields appeared in the television film Beyond the Blackboard with actress Emily VanCamp in 2011. Grace is the actress of a homeless film.

Shields was next cast in the science fiction adventure film The Hunger Games in April 2011, her first feature film role, where she was given Primrose Everdeen's supporting role. The Hunger Games came out as one of the year's best-grossing films. Critics and audiences alike applauded it, and Shields was introduced to the cause, and it was a success that brought Shields much attention. "Just growing up as the character is going to be really amusing," she says about portraying Primrose.

Shields went on to reprise Primrose's role in the remainder of the franchise. The series's second installment was the highest-grossing film of 2013, as well as the best received film of the franchise; she received a Young Hollywood Award for her role in 2014. She was supposed to reprise her role in the series's final two films, Mockingjay Part 1 and Mockingjay Part 2, which were released in 2014 and 2015 respectively to critical and commercial success. The four films grossed a collective $2.97 billion at the box office, ranking it 21st on the list of the highest-grossing film franchises of all time. She received a nomination for an MTV Award for Mockingjay Part 2.

It was revealed in 2012 that Shields would appear in the fantasy film The Wonder. Following a lengthy film run in which filming was done across China and New Zealand, it was announced as Into the Rainbow in 2017 at several international film festivals. A theatrical performance is planned, but it has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2012, she appeared in the forthcoming film A Fall From Grace, directed by Jennifer Lynch.

Shields was named one of the stars of season 20 of Dancing with the Stars in February 2015, where her coworker Mark Ballas appeared. She is the youngest contester to ever appear on the show, at age 14; the title previously belonged to Zendaya, who was 16 when she first appeared on the show. Despite receiving consistently high scores from the judges throughout the year, the couple was largely cut in the seventh week of play, ultimately finishing in seventh position in seventh place.

It was revealed that Shields was cast in the role of Serena Baker on Netflix's original series Spinning Out in December of that year. Kim Deguise Léveillée, a stunt artist, was based on figure skating in a series centered on figure skating. Spinning Out was launched in 2020 to generally positive feedback, but after one season, it was cancelled.
