Wesley Eure Career

Career

Eure wanted to be an actor from the age of five, but his passion for performing sprung from a desire for attention. Although the family lived in Illinois, he enrolled in a summer course at Northwestern University, where he took acting lessons and received an award. He was 17 years old and part-time at the New Frontier Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas selling artwork. During Robert Goulet and Carol Lawrence's summer tour, he was hired as a driver. The majority of 1968 and 1969 were spent as their chauffeur.

Eure decided he did not return to high school after the Goulet-Lawrence tour ended in New York City, so he continued. In 1970, Eure became a cast member of the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Connecticut, after a few short months of auditions and odd jobs. Eure worked with a dialect coach to get rid of his deep Southern accent, rather because of his ability to make the cast and crew laugh than his acting ability. During his time in Stratford, he collaborated with Jane Alexander in The Tempest, and appeared in Mourning Becomes Electra, Merry Wives of Windsor, Twelfth Night, and several original works created by the company. He appeared in West Side Story (portraying "Action" of the Jets) and then performed in a musical comedy revue and toured around the East Coast resort areas in Pennsylvania.

In 1973, Eure moved to Los Angeles after finding it was cheaper to live there but not so much to become an actor. He was hired to act in The Organic Vegetables, a Kaye Ballard television series that was created and produced by the Monkee team behind The Monkees.

Eure answered an advertisement in an industry trade magazine to apply for a television show when the series was not picked up due to the 1973 writers' strike. David Cassidy appeared to be threatening to leave The Partridge Family, and that the audition was for a position as a "neighbor boy" who would take over the lead in Cassidy's family band. Eure won the audition but then regretted The Partridge Family after Cassidy decided to stay on. Before the next season, the show was cancelled.

Eure auditioned for and gained a spot on NBC's Days of Our Lives in 1974. Eure had previously worked with producer Sid Krofft and had promised to attend an audition for a new children's show he was working on. When Euphonie flew to New York City at the behest of Broadway producer David Merrick's request to attend a Candide theater performance, he didn't want to audition for Krofft due to his commitment to Days (and because he was playing a 16-year-old boy). On Land of the Lost, Eure auditioned and gained the role of Will Marshall. Since the Kroffts had repeatedly asked him to appear on Land of the Lost, he kept his promise to both shows.

Eure appeared on NBC's Days of Our Lives from 1974 to 1981, playing Mike Horton. Will Marshall appeared in Sid and Marty Krofft's children's adventure series Land of the Lost from 1974 to 1976, filming this program and Days of Our Lives simultaneously. (The gold chain he wore on the show was a gift from his then-lover.) Eure decided to be billed simply as "Wesley" on Land of the Lost, but later regretted the decision. Eu's fame in the 1970s resulted in a number of appearances on game shows. He had been repeatedly asked to appear on both Password and Match Game. He appeared on Password so often that he became a semi-regular on the program. He earned $2,000 to attend five shows a week (five shows), but it was all taken in a single day to shoot.

Eure appeared on the Nickelodeon children's game show Finders Keepers in 1987 and has been in this role throughout 1988. When Fox was sold to Fox for its 1989 (and final) season, it was unwilling to recruit Eure as host.

Eure co-produced, wrote, and appeared in Fox Television's Totally Hidden Video, which aired from 1989 to 1992. He co-created Dragon Tales, PBS Kids' Emmy-nominated animated series for preschoolers that debuted in 1999, and he also produced Spy TV for NBC in 2001.

The PBS station in Pittsburgh produced a Learning DVD titled Power Over Poison to teach children how to avoid poisons. Eure was hired by Channel 9 TV in Australia to be the permanent host of their Tonight Show, but the show was delayed by ten months due to Actor's Equity in Australia.

In 1978, Eure appeared in The Toolbox Murders as a murderer and as an evil man who is eat by snakes in Jennifer. Although filming Jennifer, Eure says he had a rough time dealing with the various snakes on the set, including the large boa constrictor that appears in the climax. He appeared in Hanna Barbera's 1979 comedy C.H.O.M.P.S., which also starred Valerie Bertinelli, Red Buttons, Jim Backus, Hermione Baddeley, and Conrad Bain.

Kathy Coleman of Eure and Land of the Lost appeared in the 2009 film Land of the Lost starring Will Ferrell, but they were cut out of the final cut.

He appeared in Sins of our Youth, a 2014 independent thriller film, as Chief Police Kaplan.

Eure continued to perform as his acting career progressed. He became friends with Shaun Cassidy and Leif Garrett, and although some of his songs were produced by Bobby Sherman, no complete album was ever completed. He was under contract with Motown Records, and he was in a youth band with whose music was arranged by Mike Curb. He performed with the Jackson Five a few times. At Harrah's casino, he appeared in Las Vegas.

After leaving Totally Hidden Video, Eure lived in Bali for a short time. Eure's first children's book, The Red Wings of Christmas, was published in 1992. CNN has dubbed "the new American classic" and Disney has ordered it for a full-length animated film. Ron Palillo, who appeared in Arnold Horshack on the 1970s television series Welcome Back, Kotter, illustrated the book.

A Fish Out of Water, Eu's fifth book, is his first pre-schooler book. Schools use the tale of a bird and a fish that fall in love and make it work. The graduate art students at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, portrayed it. The Whale That Ate the Storm was also written by Robert DeLaney.

Knightsbridge Publishing published two of his comedies, Fun with Fax and On the Wall Off-the-Wall Office Humor.

Eure has been giving interactive lectures in elementary and secondary schools on reading and writing for many years.

Eure has appeared in films including Bus Stop, Butterflies Are Free, Love Sex, and the IRS, as well as the musicals I Love My Wife and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Games at Sea, his company, developed and produced on-board entertainment for cruise ships such as Crystal Cruises and Celebrity Cruise Lines. Eus Brothers 2000 live stage show appeared in Universal Studios Hollywood for several years. Snapshots is Stephen Schwartz's musical.
