Wayne Elliot Knight (born August 7, 1955) is an American actor, singer, and comedian.

Dennis Nedry in Seinfeld (1992–1998), Dennis Nedry in Jurassic Park (1993), Al McWhiggin in Toy Story 2 (1999), and Tantor in Tarzan (1999).

Officer Don Orville in 3rd Rock from the Sun (1996–2001), Stan Podolak in Space Jam (1996–2001), Dojo in Punish (2001), Mr. Blik in Catscratch (2005–2005), and Haskell Lutz in The Exes (2011–2015).

For his role in Jurassic Park, he was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Early life

Wayne Elliot Knight was born in New York City on August 7, 1955, to a Catholic family. They moved to Cartersville, Georgia, where his father worked in the textile industry. Knight attended local schools and was a lineman on his high school's football team. He attended the University of Georgia but did not complete his degree until 2008.

Although Knight, a honors student, dropped out of college just one credit shy of completing his degree in order to continue his acting studies. He undertook an internship at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia, which also produced repertory performances. After completing his internship, he joined the company and became an Equity actor. He then migrated to New York City and his first appearance on Broadway came after two years.

He spent five years as a private investigator after his time on Broadway.

Personal life

In a ceremony held in fellow Seinfeld cast member Michael Richards' home, Knight married makeup artist Paula Sutor on May 26, 1996. By December 2003, they had divorced. Clare de Chenu, his second wife, was married on October 15, 2006; the couple have a son, Liam. Knight has lived in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, where he has resided for many years.

Knight was at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Washington, D.C. Knight appeared in an advertisement that looked at "ethical abuses" of mail workers in the United States and the lack of government assistance ahead of the 2020 presidential election. The commercial was a Democrat party and Anti-Trump.

Career

Knight appeared in many films made at the end of the 1980s and the start of the 1990s, including Dirty Dancing (1989), and Basic Instinct (1992). He was the first actor cast in Jurassic Park after director Steven Spielberg noticed his appearance in Basic Instinct. Dennis Nedry, InGen Corporation's chief programmer for the park and classified spy for Biosyn, Knight was cast as the park's chief programmer.

He appeared in Dead Again, To Die For, and Space Jam. Knight appeared in two television series on NBC in the 1990s. In 3rd Rock from the Sun, he played mailman Newman, Jerry's neighbor and nemesis, and Officer Don Orville, Sally's love interest. He appeared in Against the Grain earlier this year. In the United Kingdom, he appeared on two sketch comedy series The Edge for Fox and Assaulted Nuts for Cinemax and Channel 4.

Also appeared on Broadway in Gemini, Mastergate, 'Art', and Sweet Charity with Christina Applegate.

Knight has done voice work on many animated films, including the black cat on the Fox Kids cartoon Catscratch, Igor, and the dragon Dojo Kanojo Cho in the Kids' WB. On Toon Disney and Disney Channel, the animated series Xiaolin Showdown; Evil Emperor Zurg; Al McWhiggin, the Toy Barn's Toy Barn's shopkeeper in Tarzan; Juju on Tak; and the Power of Juju. Jack O'Lantern, Dilbert, as the Security Guard, and Brandy and Mr. Whiskers as Mr. Cantarious the snail appeared on Billy & Mandy's Jacked-Up Halloween as Jack O'Lantern, Dilbert as the Security Guard.

On the pilot episode of the American version of Thank God You're Here, Knight appeared on the show "Thank God You're Here." On the last episode of the first season of the television series, he made his second appearance. He received the Thank God You're Here blue door award. In Punisher: War Zone, he appeared as Microchip of Punisher's tyrant. Max the Cat, a Knight guest, appeared in "Launchtime" and "Cat's Cradle" in The Penguins of Madagascar.

For the seventh season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Knight reprised his role as the Seinfeld character Newman. He also appeared on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Season 10, Episode "Working Stiffs."

In the first season of Fox's comedy series Bones, a knight guest appeared on a 2010 episode of The Whole Truth in Cleveland, where he became a recurring character for season two. In the TV Land sitcom The Exes, he played an Internet obsessed couch potato. Brian Friedkin appeared in the BBC/Starz series Torchwood: Miracle Day in the summer of 2011.

In November 2012, Knight appeared in Elf: The Musical. In 1999, he appeared on Broadway in Art for the first time. Knight appeared in She Wants Me, a romantic comedy from April 2012. During one commercial during the Super Bowl in February 2014, Knight reimagined the role Newman. Knight was featured in a KFC commercial depicting Colonel Sanders in December 2017.
