Early life
Wayne Elliot Knight was born in New York City on August 7, 1955, to a Catholic family. They moved to Cartersville, Georgia, where his father worked in the textile industry. Knight attended local schools and was a lineman on his high school's football team. He attended the University of Georgia but did not complete his degree until 2008.
Although Knight, a honors student, dropped out of college just one credit shy of completing his degree in order to continue his acting studies. He undertook an internship at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia, which also produced repertory performances. After completing his internship, he joined the company and became an Equity actor. He then migrated to New York City and his first appearance on Broadway came after two years.
He spent five years as a private investigator after his time on Broadway.
Personal life
In a ceremony held in fellow Seinfeld cast member Michael Richards' home, Knight married makeup artist Paula Sutor on May 26, 1996. By December 2003, they had divorced. Clare de Chenu, his second wife, was married on October 15, 2006; the couple have a son, Liam. Knight has lived in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles, where he has resided for many years.
Knight was at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Washington, D.C. Knight appeared in an advertisement that looked at "ethical abuses" of mail workers in the United States and the lack of government assistance ahead of the 2020 presidential election. The commercial was a Democrat party and Anti-Trump.
Career
Knight appeared in many films made at the end of the 1980s and the start of the 1990s, including Dirty Dancing (1989), and Basic Instinct (1992). He was the first actor cast in Jurassic Park after director Steven Spielberg noticed his appearance in Basic Instinct. Dennis Nedry, InGen Corporation's chief programmer for the park and classified spy for Biosyn, Knight was cast as the park's chief programmer.
He appeared in Dead Again, To Die For, and Space Jam. Knight appeared in two television series on NBC in the 1990s. In 3rd Rock from the Sun, he played mailman Newman, Jerry's neighbor and nemesis, and Officer Don Orville, Sally's love interest. He appeared in Against the Grain earlier this year. In November 2012, Knight appeared in Elf: The Musical. In 1999, he appeared on Broadway in Art for the first time. Knight appeared in She Wants Me, a romantic comedy from April 2012. During one commercial during the Super Bowl in February 2014, Knight reimagined the role Newman. Knight was featured in a KFC commercial depicting Colonel Sanders in December 2017.
