Warwick Ashley Davis (born 3 February 1970) is an English actor, television presenter, writer, producer, and producer.
In the Harry Potter films, he appeared in Willow and the Leprechaun film series, the Ewok Wicket.
Davis appeared in Life's Too Short, written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, as a fictionalized version of himself. He has appeared on television game shows Celebrity Squares (2014–2015) and Tenable (2016–present).
Early life
Davis was born in Epsom, Surrey, on February 3, 1970, the son of Susan J. (née Pain) and Ashley Davis, an insurance agent. He has a younger sister. He was educated at Chinthurst School in Tadworth, Surrey, and then the City of London Freemen's School.
Davis was born with spondyloeplasia congenita, a rare form of restricted growth previously associated with dwarfism. When Davis was 11, his grandmother noticed a radio commercial asking for people who were 4 foot (120 cm) tall or shorter to be in Return of the Jedi. It was a dream come true for Davis, who was a fan of the Star Wars films. Mark Hamill himself bought Davis every Star Wars action figure that he did not already have during filming Return of the Jedi.
Personal life
Davis is married to Samantha (née Burroughs), the daughter of Davis' business partner Peter Burroughs and the niece of actress Hayley Burroughs. When filming Willow, Davis met the Burroughs family, where Samantha and Peter appeared briefly as Nelwyn villagers. Lloyd, Annabelle, and Harrison are three children. Sasha Bellman, their daughter, appears in the CBBC show The Dumping Ground.
Davis' dwarfism is attributed to an extremely rare genetic disorder called spondyloeplasia congenita (SED). Samantha Davis' wife has achondroplasia, and their two children are SED. Lloyd, the couple's first son, died nine days after birth, as a result of inheriting both conditions. A second trimester miscarriage was incurred during a subsequent attempt at conception of a child.
Davis said that the only real drawback to being small was the associated health problems. Davis has said, "Well, as you get older, it gets worse..." For a start, your joints will be a focus. My hips are dislocated, so they are standing out here. Very painful knees. When I was a child, I had surgery on my feet. There is a danger of retinal detachment, but I know the signs right now."
Davis is co-founder of Little People UK, a charity that helps people with dwarfism and their families.
Career
Davis was originally cast as an extra Ewok, but George Lucas selected Davis to be the new Wicket after seeing how he carried himself as an Ewok.
Davis based his Ewok commute on his dog, who flipped his head from side to side when he saw something strange.
