At 79 years old, Vince McMahon has this physical status:
Vincent Kennedy McMahon (born August 24, 1945) is an American professional wrestling promoter and executive, American football executive, and businessman.
Since inheriting the company from his father in 1982, he has worked in the corporate sector and behind the scenes.
McMahon has served as both the majority owner, chairman, and CEO of WWE, as well as the creator of Alpha Entertainment, which is the XFL's holding company, based on his real life experience.
He has been a two-time world champion, winning the WWF Championship in 1999 and the ECW World Championship in 2007.
He was the 1999 Royal Rumble champion.
He covered a number of WWF/WWE pay-per-view events from 1999 to 2000, as a cornerman for The Rock and in the main event of WrestleMania 2000.
He has gained success over former WWF/WWE Champions Ric Flair, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H in singles competition. He continues to appear as the main authority figure alongside the McMahon family in backstage and on-screen roles. He served as the broadcast color commentator and then chief broadcaster for the corporation prior to this. McMahon, a third-generation wrestling promoter (following his grandfather Jess and father Vincent), is married to former WWE CEO and former American SBA Administrator Linda McMahon, with whom he has two children, son Shane, and daughter Stephanie.
He is the father-in-law of WWE executive/wrestler Paul "Triple H" Levesque and has six grandchildren.
Early life
Vincent Kennedy McMahon was born in Pinehurst, North Carolina, on August 24, 1945, as the younger son of Victoria (née Hanner, later Askew) and Vincent James McMahon. When he was still a baby, McMahon's father died and took his elder son, Rod, with him, so he didn't know his father until he was 12. Roderick James "Jess" McMahon, McMahon's paternal grandfather, was a fellow promoter whose parents were Irish immigrants from County Galway. Rose Davis, his paternal grandmother, was also of Irish descent.
McMahon was born Vinnie Lupton and spent the majority of his childhood with his mother and stepfather. When McMahon wanted to shield his mother, Leo Lupton, one of his stepfathers, beat his mother and assaulted him. Later, he said, "It's unfortunate that he died before I could kill him." I would have loved it." He attended Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia, graduating in 1964. He is believed to have dyslexia.
Personal life
Linda Edwards was married in New Bern, North Carolina, on August 26, 1966. When Linda was 13 years old and Vince was 16, they met in church. Vince Lupton at the time, and McMahon was known as Vince Lupton, with his stepfather's surname being used. They were unveiled by Vince's mother, Vicky H. Askew (née Hanner) (July 11, 1920 – January 20,2022). Shane and Stephanie are both married and pregnant, and both of whom have worked in the WWF/E both on-screen and behind the scenes. Shane left the company on January 1, 2010 (later returning to 2016), while Stephanie continues to appear onstage and on film in a backstage role. According to latest reports, the two are no longer together.
Roderick James McMahon III, his older brother, died in the wrestling business from October 12, 1943 to January 20, 2021.
McMahon has six grandchildren: Declan James, Kenyon Jesse, and Rogan McMahon, Shane and his wife Marissa's sons, as well as Aurora Rose, Murphy Claire, Stephanie and her husband Paul "Triple H" Levesque.
McMahon has a $12 million penthouse in Manhattan, New York; a $40 million mansion in Greenwich, Connecticut; a $20 million vacation home; and a 47-foot sports yacht named Sexy Bitch, all in 2006. His fortune has been estimated at $1.1 billion, backing up WWE's assertion that he was a billionaire for 2001, although he was not expected to have been absent from the list between 2002 and 2013. McMahon's estimated net worth was $1.2 billion in 2014. Following poor company results, McMahon's worth dropped to an estimated $750 million on May 16, 2014. McMahon returned to the market in 2015 for a total amount of $1.2 billion. In 2018, his net worth hit $3.6 billion.
McMahon and his wife have contributed to many Republican Party charities and political action committees, including $1 million in 2014 to federal candidates and political action committees, including Karl Rove's American Crossroads and the research and tracking company America Rising. The McMahons have donated $5 million to Donald Trump's charity, the Donald J. Trump Foundation. In 2008, the McMahons donated over $8 million to the Fishburne Military School, Sacred Heart University, and East Carolina University. The bulk of the McMahons' contributions were directed to capital projects, according to the nonprofit Quarter. They spent $2.5 million on the construction of a tennis facility in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, in 2006. Since 1986, the McMahons have supported the Special Olympics, first gaining an interest thanks to their friendship with NBC producer Dick Ebersol and Susan Saint James, who encouraged them to participate.
Rita Chatterton, a former referee in the WWF in the 1980s and first female referee in the WWF, made a return to Geraldo Rivera on Thursday. McMahon said on July 16, 1986, she threatened to compel her to have oral sex with him in his limousine; if she refused, she assaulted her. Leonard Inzitari, a former wrestler, has confirmed Chatterton's accusation.
McMahon was accused of sexual assault by a member of a tanning bar in Boca Raton, Florida, on February 1, 2006. The charge seemed to be discredited at first because McMahon was in Miami for the 2006 Royal Rumble at the time. It was soon revealed that the suspected incident was reported to police on the day of the Rumble, but that it took place the day before. As a result of the probe, McMahon will not be charged against him on March 25, it was announced that no charges would be lodged against him.
The WWE board began probing a $3 million hush-money deal that McMahon paid out for an alleged deal with a former employee of the corporation in April 2022. Other nondisclosure agreements relating to misconduct allegations made by other women in the company against McMahon and executive John Laurinaitis also became revealed, totaling $12 million. McMahon resigned as WWE CEO and chairman, but content development was carried out. On July 22, 2022, he announced his resignation.
McMahon was convicted in federal court in November 1993 after a steroid controversy engulfed the organization, denying the WWF's temporary custody to his wife Linda. McMahon was charged with selling steroids to his wrestlers in 1994, where the lawsuit went back to court. Kevin Wacholz, one of the prosecution witnesses, had worked for the company in 1992 as "Nailz" and had been suspended after a violent confrontation with McMahon. McMahon ordered him to use steroids, according to Wacholz, but his credibility was questioned during his testimony, as he said he "hated" McMahon. The jury cleared McMahon of the charges in July 1994.
Business career
When 12 years old, McMahon first met the promoter of Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC), his father, Vincent J. McMahon, who was 16 years old, on Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC). McMahon became interested in following his father's professional wrestling footsteps and often joined him on trips to Madison Square Garden. McMahon wanted to be a wrestler but his father refused to allow him, explaining that promoters did not appear on the program and should remain separate from their wrestlers.
McMahon graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor's degree and after a nondescript career as a traveling salesman, he was eager to play a leader in his father's World Wide Wrestling Federation promotion. McMahon made his debut as a ring announcer for the WWF's All-Star Wrestling in 1969. In 1971, he was sent to a small Maine island, where he sold his first card. After replacing Ray Morgan in 1971, he became the play-by-play commentator on television matches, a role he continued to play until November 1997.
McMahon, a 1970s immigrant, became a leading figure in his father's company, and over the next decade, he helped him with tripling TV syndication. The younger McMahon was also responsible for the 1976 Muhammad Ali versus Antonio Inoki match. In 1979, he pushed for the renaming of the organization to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).
McMahon officially founded Titan Sports and the company's headquarters in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, using the now-defunct Cape Cod Coliseum as a home base for the company on February 21, 1980. McMahon became chairman of the company and Linda McMahon, his wife, became the company's "co-chief executive." Titan bought the CWC from McMahon's ailing father (who died in May 1984).
Professional wrestling was a business operated by regional promotions when he purchased the WWF in 1982. Various promoters understood that they would not invade each others' territories for decades as this activity had remained undeterred for decades; McMahon had a different vision of what the industry could become. The WWF split from the National Wrestling Alliance for the second time in 1983, after originally breaking them in 1963 before returning them in 1971. The NWA has been the governing body for all the country's regional territories, as well as Japan.
He began growing the company nationally by promoting outside of the company's Northeast United States stomping grounds and recruiting talent from other organizations, including the American Wrestling Association (AWA). When the campaign began circulating and broadcasting into rival territories, Hulk Hogan recruited Hulk Hogan to be the WWF's charismatic new megastar, and the two actors quickly drew the ire of business peers. Nonetheless, McMahon (who also appeared as the WWF's squeaky clean babyface announcer) developed The Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection, incorporating pop music stars into wrestling storylines. As a result, the WWF was able to grow its fanbase into a national mainstream audience as the campaign was prominent on MTV television. He appeared on closed circuit television in various markets around the country on March 31, 1985. McMahon's achievement in the 1980s during the Golden Age wrestling boom in the 1980s was a major influence on the 1980s professional wrestling boom.
McMahon converted the WWF into a unique sports entertainment brand that attracted family audiences while simultaneously attracting fans who had never paid attention to pro wrestling before. McMahon capitalized on a newbie's funding stream by broadcasting these events live on pay-per-view television, directing his storylines into highly publicized supercards. According to a story about Hulk Hogan vs. André the Giant, the WWF attracted 93,173 supporters to the Pontiac Silverdome (which was described as the "most sports-entertainment audience in history") in 1987.
The company entered the New Generation Era in 1993, one of McMahon's most difficult times since taking over the company as sales increased and down with various initiatives in the company.
McMahon referred to the WWF as the preeminent wrestling campaign in the late 1990s after losing to Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling (WCW) when launching a new brand campaign that eventually brought the WWF to prominence. McMahon redirected storylines toward a more mature and cynical audience base in the wake of a public shift toward a more cynical fan base. The concept was born as "WWF Attitude" and McMahon began a new age of manipulating the WWF Championship at the Survivor Series, replacing Bret Hart at Survivor Series (now known as the "Montreal Screwjob"). McMahon, who had downplayed his ownership of the company and was mostly known as a commentator, became involved in WWF newslines as the villainous Mr. McMahon, who started a legendary feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin, who slammed his authority. As a result, the WWF has rediscovered national pop culture, attracting millions of viewers for its weekly Monday Night Raw broadcasts, one of the top-rated shows on cable television. In October 1999, McMahon led the WWF in an initial public offering of company stock. Also, during the Attitude Era, the company embraced this period by including foul words, graphic abuse, and contentious stipulations such as Bra and Panties matches.
McMahon said on June 24, 1999, he regarded Ted Turner as his enemy but "not really a bad guy" because he is a father of a bitch."
After an initial 84 week TV ratings loss to WCW and then the fading World Championship Wrestling (WCW) from Turner Broadcasting System came out victorious against Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in the TV ratings in the Monday Night Wars, McMahon came out victorious against Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling (WCW) fading in the Monday Night Wars, it came to an end to the Monday Night Wars. Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) filed for bankruptcy on April 1, 2001, the last major wrestling tournament at that time. On January 28, 2003, McMahon purchased ECW's assets.
Professional wrestling promoter and former WCW president Eric Bischoff announced in September 2020 that Ted Pollard, as a result of the Monday Night Wars in TV ratings competitions between WWE and WCW, was petitioning a lot for Ted. He was trying to embarrass Ted by attempting to smear the Turner Broadcasting Company's shareholders. Vince is planning to spark trouble and apprehension by being very critical of WCW" and "If you'd see blood in WCW," Vince wrote these letters from the king's court to Ted, criticizing him, and WCW's health and well-being by saying it's crap, it's garbage," and all that. And then he'd turn around and do the same thing a month later. None of us read any of those letters seriously, and it was pretty clear what Vince was aiming for. We all laughed over it."
McMahon referred to the "situation where "rising tides" because that was when Ted Turner was coming after us with all of Time Warner's assets as well as some."
After losing a case brought by the World Wildlife Fund over the WWF logo, the World Wrestling Federation announced on May 5, 2002 that it was changing both its logo and the name of its wrestling promotion to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). McMahon officially referred to the new era as "Ruthless Aggression" shortly after; a short time after, the company entered Ruthless Aggression Era; McMahon referred to the new era as "Ruthless Aggression" on June 24, 2002. Many of the Attitude Era's characteristics, including the amount of gun violence, sex, and profanity, were still present in this period, but there was less emphasis on wrestling, and a larger emphasis on wrestling was highlighted.
All WWE shows have migrated to TV-PG ratings in July 2008. McMahon said that the Attitude Era of the late 1990s and early 2000s was the result of WCW's competition, which compelled the company to "go for the jugular." McMahon, a producer who appeared on television in 2001, says they "don't have to" appeal to viewers in the same way, and that during the "far more scripted" PG Era, WWE could "give the audience what they want in a more advanced manner." McMahon said that the move to PG "cuts the "excess" of the Attitude Era and "ushers in a new age of refined and compelling storytelling." McMahon had the most say in the WWE company's artistic direction. The promotion became more attractive to corporate sponsors as a result of the transition into the PG Age.
During a conference call on July 25, 2019, Tony Khan's All Elite Wrestling (better known as AEW) became the second most popular professional wrestling promotion in the country after WWE, and McMahon revealed a new direction for WWE, where it will "be a bit edgier but still remain in the PG environment." McMahon said in another conference call on July 29, 2021, that he does not believe in AEW competition and that he is "not so sure" that their investments are "not so concerned as long as their talent is concerned." From October 2, 2019, to April 7, 2021, WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite vied, with AEW Dynamite triumphing and NXT returning to Tuesday nights. With major updates to "NXT 2.0" that debuted on September 14, 2021, WWE was eventually able to rebrand NXT.
McMahon resigned as chairman and CEO of WWE on June 17, 2022, pending an internal probe, with his daughter Stephanie McMahon named interim CEO and interim Chairwoman of the WWE. McMahon, on the other hand, was still in charge of WWE creative and content creation. Vince McMahon officially announced his retirement from WWE on July 22, 2022, as the company's new permanent Chairwoman and Co-CEO (alongside Nick Khan). Vince McMahon was then promoted to Head of WWE creative, according to Triple H.
Vince and Linda bought the Cape Cod Coliseum and the Cape Cod Buccaneers of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League in 1979. They began selling out rock concerts (including Van Halen and Rush) in non-summer months, which were traditionally unprofitable due to a lack of tourists. The McMahons attended the International Association of Arena Managers, learning the specifics of the game industry and networking with other executives through IAAM conferences, which Linda later described as a major contributor to WWE's success.
McMahon founded the World Bodybuilding Federation in 1990, which later collapsed in 1992.
McMahon introduced the XFL, a professional American football league, in 2000. The league began in February 2001, with McMahon appearing in the first game but ultimately having to be canceled due to poor television ratings. This wasn't until January 25, 2018, when he announced it on January 25, 2018. On April 13, 2020, the league declared bankruptcy.
McMahon helped pioneer the WWE Network, an over-the-top subscription box.
McMahon founded Alpha Entertainment, a separate entity from WWE, in 2017.
Professional wrestling career
McMahon appeared on television before the development of the Mr. McMahon character. His executive position was not disclosed in order to maintain the belief that wrestling's staged story lines were relayed, or kayfabe. Although McMahon did publicly announce himself as the owner of the WWF outside of WWF's programming, his WWF membership of the WWF was still regarded as an open mystery until the mid-1990s. Rather than McMahon, Jack Tunney was portrayed as the president of WWF rather than McMahon.
McMahon made his comment debut in 1971 when he replaced Ray Morgan after Morgan had a wage dispute with McMahon's father, Vincent J. McMahon, just before a scheduled television taping. Morgan let him walk rather than giving in to his demands and requiring a replacement on the spot, rather than telling him, who gave it to his son. It was also a compromise for the younger McMahon as it allowed him to appear on television. McMahon wanted to be a wrestler, but his father refused to allow him to attend the show but that promoters didn't appear on the program and should stay apart from their wrestlers.
McMahon rose to prominence as the regular play-by-play commentator and remained in that role until November 1997, portraying himself as mild-mannered and diplomatic until 1984. McMahon hosted other WWF shows as well as introducing WWF programming to TBS on Black Saturday, following the WWF's purchase of Georgia Championship Wrestling and its lucrative Saturday night timeslot (McMahon sold the time slot to Jim Crockett Promotions after the move backfired on JCP's successor firm, World Championship Wrestling, which was originally AOL Time Warner in 2001). McMahon appeared in a musical number and performed the song "Stand Back" at the 1987 Slammy Awards. The campy "Stand Back" video has appeared several times over the years as a running joke between McMahon and any face wrestler he is competing with at the time, and it was also included on the 2006 McMahon DVD.
McMahon, a commentator, served as a "voice of the fans," a contrast to the heel color commentator, usually Jesse Ventura, Bobby Heenan, or Jerry Lawler. Although the majority of McMahon's physical appearance occurred under his "Mr. McMahon" persona later in his career, he was only on WWF television in 1985, when he and Arnold Skahon were stabbed by his brother and Kheston, when Albano was dissatisfied with their defeat to Skaaland, when he was forced to leave the arena on a stretcher) and again on Sunday Night Rawl' During the 1991 episode of WWF Superstars of Wrestling (after Hulk Hogan was assaulted by Earthquake during a segment of The Brother Love Show), McMahon was also seen screaming at medics and WWF troops when Hogan was not able to get out of the arena quickly enough.
McMahon came to be referred to as the owner on WWF television in late 1996 and 1997, while remaining as the company's lead play-by-play commentator. Jim Ross delivered a working shoot promo on Monday Night Raw, exposing him as chairman rather than simply a commentator for the first time in WWF storylines. This was a follow-up to Stone Cold Steve Austin's characterization of Gorilla Monsoon as "just a puppet" and that it was McMahon "pulling all the strings." Some believe the Mr. McMahon character was introduced as early as Bret Hart lost to Sycho Sid in a steel cage match for the WWF Championship, Hart engaged in an expletive-laden brawl against McMahon and WWF leadership on March 17, 1997. In this rant, Hart yelled McMahon to the ground when he attempted to conduct a post-match interview. McMahon, himself, crept out Hart and almost yelled out the term before being calmed by Ross and Lawler.
After the Bret Hart incident on Raw, McMahon remained largely a commentator. Owen Hart, Bret's brother, was speaking to the fans on September 22, 1997, the first-ever Raw to be broadcast from Madison Square Garden. Stone Cold Steve Austin appeared in the Ring with five NYPD officers following and assaulting Hart during his address. McMahon burstled into the ring to tell him that he couldn't compete; at the time, Austin was recovering from a fractured neck after Owen Hart botched a piledriver in his match against Austin at SummerSlam. Austin hit McMahon with a Stone Cold Stunner after telling McMahon that he respects the fact that he and the WWF cared. Austin was then arrested on suspicion of trespassing, assault, and attacking a police officer. This was the start of the Austin-McMahon feud.
Bret Hart defended his WWF Championship against longtime competitor Shawn Michaels in the main event at Survivor Series in 1997. Michaels used Hart's signature submission tactic The Sharpshooter on Hart during the match. Despite Hart's refusal to answer the call, McMahon ordered the referee to ring the bell, effectively ending Hart and making him the champion and making McMahon the champion and making McMahon turn heel for the first time on WWF television. This occurrence was later identified as the "Montreal Screwjob." McMahon's commentary table was a success (Jim Ross replaced McMahon as the lead commentator) and the Mr. McMahon character began shortly after the incident.
McMahon discussed Stone Cold Steve Austin's behavior and attitude in Your House, such as Austin assaulted WWF Commissioner Sgt. Jim Ross and McMahon himself slaughtered and weighed in on the murders and commentators. In a rematch, Mr. McMahon requested that Austin defend his Intercontinental Championship against The Rock. Austin used his pickup truck as a weapon in the previous match against the Rock and the Nation of Domination gang. Austin had intended to forfeit the title to The Rock, but instead, Austin gave The Rock a Stone Cold Stunner and knocked McMahon off the ring ropes.
McMahon called Mike Tyson to the ring for a big announcement on January 19, 1998. Austin interrupted and confronted Tyson, culminating with Austin displaying his middle finger right in Tyson's face before McMahon's announcement (that Tyson will act as a Ringside enforcer at WrestleMania XIV). Tyson staggered Austin, at which point WWF security and Tyson's entourage intervened and separated both men. McMahon was angered by Austin's words, who yelled "YOU RUINED IT" and had to be barred from attacking Austin himself.
Mike Tyson joined D-Generation X, led by WWF Champion Shawn Michaels on the March 2 edition of Raw Is War. Austin called out McMahon's union with Michaels a week later. Austin verbally assaulted McMahon and threatened to compel an outraged McMahon to assault him (Austin), but McMahon was uninhibited. McMahon said he didn't bother bothering Austin on the previous episode of Raw Is War because he didn't want to ruin the WrestleMania XIV main event. McMahon said Austin would be unable to compete with a fractured jaw when asked what it meant. McMahon's initial attempts to avoid the question of whether he wanted Austin to be the WWF champion by saying "no" instead, it's an OH HELL NO" that mimics Austin's "hell yeah" catch. McMahon did not attend the WrestleMania XIV main tournament, where Mike Tyson turned on Shawn Michaels and assisted Austin in becoming WWF Champion.
McMahon served Austin with a new championship belt on March 30 in the night after he won the WWF title at WrestleMania XIV, and told Austin that he did not agree with his insurgent nature. Austin responded by giving McMahon the Stone Cold Stunner for the second time. It appeared on the episode of Raw Is War, Austin and McMahon were supposed to battle it out in a real match, but Dude Love interfered, causing the match to be declared a no-contest. Raw defeated WCW's Nitro in the ratings for the first time since June 10, 1996. At Unforgiven, Dude Love and Austin met in a championship match for which McMahon stayed ringside and attempted to assist Dude Love in winning the match. When Austin hits McMahon with a chair, Dude Love eventually triumphed by disqualification. Austin retained the title because disqualification under regular match rules would not be able to change hands. Austin is retained in a title match at Over the Edge: Despite McMahon's "Corporate Stooges" as the referee and his "Corporate Stooges," Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson respectively as timekeeper and ring announcer. Austin accompanied McMahon with the Stone Cold Stunner to Dude Love and counted his pinfall triumph, though McMahon was incapacitated by an accidental Dude Love chair shot.
McMahon said he was "ill and tired" of seeing Stone Cold Steve Austin as the WWF Champion in 1998, and he devised a "master plan" to ban the championship from Austin. McMahon created a triple threat match in Breakdown: In Your House, in which Undertaker and Kane could only win by defeating Austin. Austin lost the title after being pinned simultaneously by both Undertaker and Kane at Breakdown. However, no new champion was crowned. McMahon announced a new WWF champion the following night on Raw Is War. He held a reception and introduced The Undertaker and Kane. Austin carried a Zamboni into the arena and arrested McMahon after police officers arrested him and arrested him, after saying that both wanted to be the WWF champion. Because McMahon and Kane refused to protect McMahon from Austin, McMahon did not name a new champion, but instead held a match between The Undertaker and Kane with Austin as the special referee. Mr. McMahon was stabbed in the ankle by the Undertaker and Kane because he gave them the finger behind their backs.
There was still no champion on Judgement Day, as Austin declared himself the king after counting a double pinfall three count for both men. In 1998, McMahon ordered the WWF Championship to be defended in a 14-man tournament named Deadly Games at Survivor Series. After McMahon was sent to the hospital by The Undertaker and Kane, McMahon made sure Mankind made it to the finals. Because of his fame as a hardcore wrestling legend, Mankind was also honoured with the WWF Hardcore Championship. McMahon was behaving as if he was helping out Mankind during the game. The Rock turned his attention to McMahon at one point. After a screwjob, McMahon turned on Mankind, but the Rock had captured Mankind in the Sharpshooter, the Rock had a field day. Mankind had not submitted, but McMahon ordered the referee to ring the bell, granting The Rock the WWF Championship. This was an homage to the "Montreal Screwjob" that occurred a year ago. McMahon referred to The Rock as the "Corporate Champion," establishing the firm with his son Shane and The Rock. Mankind beat The Rock to win the WWF Championship in Rock Bottom, after the Rock was kicked out of the Mandible Claw. McMahon, on the other hand, screwed Mankind once more by reversing the decision and returning the belt to his chosen champion, The Rock. McMahon was registered in a "Corporate Rumble" on January 11, 1999 Raw as an unscheduled participant, but Chyna barred him from participating in the contest.
McMahon revived a long-running rivalry with Stone Cold Steve Austin in December 1998, when he brought Austin face the Undertaker in a Buried Alive match with the Royal Rumble qualification on the line. Austin with Kane's help defeated the Undertaker. McMahon had offered $100,000 to anyone who might have barred Austin from the Royal Rumble match. Thanks to Royal Rumble's help with Austin's women's bathroom during the match (Austin and McMahon went under the ropes, not over them), and The Rock distracting Austin, McMahon lifted Austin over the top rope from behind, earning the match and a title shot against WWF Champion The Rock, whose reigns dictated for elimination. He turned down his position, but WWF Commissioner Shawn Michaels awarded it to Austin, which angered McMahon. Austin chose to put his championship shot against McMahon in order to face Vince in a steel cage match at In Your House. Big Show, a prospective employee of the Corporation, was interrupted during the match, making his WWF debut. He beat Austin through the side of the cage, giving him the win.
The Corporation sparked a rivalry with The Undertaker's new faction, "Ministry of Shadow," which culminated in a storyline introducing McMahon's daughter Stephanie. Stephanie was a "innocent sweet girl" who was kidnapped twice by The Ministry. She was discovered by Ken Shamrock on behalf of McMahon in a basement of the stadium for the first time. The Undertaker attempted to marry her again when she was unlawfully tied to the Ministry's crucifix, but Steve Austin saved her. This connection saw a brief friendship between McMahon and Austin, bringing an end to their long-running feud. During May 1999, McMahon became a member of the short-lived stable The Union. Shane McMahon, a McMahon, joined the company with Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness to form the Corporate Ministry. McMahon was identified as the "Higher Power" behind the Corporate Ministry on June 7 episode of Raw Is War. This not only reignited McMahon's feud with WWF Champion Austin, but it also caused a kayfabe disgusting Linda and Stephanie McMahon to donate 50% of the WWF to Austin.
Vince and Shane defeated Austin in a handicap ladder contest to reclaim control of the WWF. After King Of The Ring, Austin's CEO, Austin, had called a WWF Championship match to be shown on Raw Is War. Austin defeated the Undertaker once more to become the WWF Champion after the match. Austin was back in Loaded for their first blood match against The Undertaker. If Austin lost, he would be banned from wrestling for the WWF Championship once more; if he did win, Vince McMahon would be barred from appearing on WWF television. Austin defeated The Undertaker, and McMahon was barred from viewing WWF television.
McMahon returned to Austin in 1999 and won the WWF Championship in a match against Triple H, thanks to outside interference from Austin on the September 16 SmackDown! He had to abandon the title at the conclusion of WWF television during the Following Monday's Raw Is War because he was not allowed on WWF television because of the terms of the Fully Loaded deal he signed. Stone Cold Steve Austin was reinstated in his first appearance in the WWF for the first time in history. McMahon and Triple H feuded over the next few months, with Triple H's storyline marriage to Stephanie McMahon as the linchpin of the feud. The feud came to an end in 1999 at Armageddon; McMahon defeated Triple H in a No Holds Barred match that McMahon lost. Stephanie later turned on him, revealing her true colors. McMahon and his son Shane separated from WWF television in the summer of 1967, unable to comprehend Triple H's union with Stephanie. Triple H and Stephanie were in complete control of the WWF when they were announced.
On the March 13, 2000 Raw Is War, McMahon helped The Rock win his WWF championship shot back from the Big Show. He also attacked Shane McMahon and Triple H. Two weeks later, McMahon and The Rock defeated Shane McMahon and The Big Show in a tag team match with the help of special guest referee Mankind. Triple H defended the WWF Championship in a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match in which each competitor had a McMahon in his corner at WrestleMania 2000. Triple H had Stephanie McMahon, the WWF Women's Champion in his corner, The Rock had Vince McMahon in his corner, Mick Foley had Linda McMahon in his corner, and Shane had Shane in his corner. Triple H and The Rock were left after the Big Show and Foley were canceled. Despite being in The Rock's corner, Vince struck The Rock for the first time since his rivalry with Stone Cold Steve Austin, which helped Triple H win the game and keep his crown. This was the McMahon-Helmsley Era.
In a six-man tag team match for the WWF Championship, King of the Ring, McMahon, Shane, and WWF Champion Triple H face The Brothers of Destruction (The Undertaker and Kane). The WWF Champion of the game was whoever made the scoring pinfall. The Rock pinned McMahon to The Rock. McMahon was then unavailable on WWF television until late 2000. McMahon challenged WWF Commissioner Mick Foley's motives and expressed doubt about the six superstars competing in the Hell in a Cell match at Armageddon on December 4th. McMahon met Kurt Angle in a non-title match that was fought to a draw when Mick Foley interfered and assaulted both men on the December 18 episode of Raw Is War. Both men were defeated Foley and McMahon fired after the match, and McMahon was discharged.
McMahon then began a public extramarital affair with Trish Stratus, much to his daughter's displeasure, Stephanie. Trish was humiliated by dumping sewage on her on February 26, but McMahon said Stephanie will always be "daddy's little girl" and that Trish would never be "daddy's little girl." McMahon and Stephanie then banded together against Shane, who had returned and had enough of Vince's activities in recent months. McMahon lost to Shane after Linda, who had been emotionally abused to the point of crashing; the breakdown was caused after Vince ordered a divorce on the December 7 episode of SmackDown! The break left her helpless; Vince's wife was deemed unable to continue as CEO of the WWF at the time; finally, she was heavily sedated, bringing Vince 100% responsibility; finally, she struck Vince with a low blow. McMahon was allied with Stone Cold Steve Austin on Friday, assisting him in defeating The Rock in his second WWF Championship. The two people, as well as Triple H, are related. The Rock was kicked out of action by Austin and Triple H; this was done so that The Rock could film The Scorpion King. All three major WWF titles were held at the same time by Austin and Triple H. Due to a job to Triple H and a McMahon venture, the partnership was short-lived.
McMahon purchased the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) from AOL Time Warner in March 2001 and signed several wrestlers from the group. In which the former WCW wrestlers regularly clashed against the WWF wrestlers, this was the start of the Invasion storyline. Any fundamentalists as well as several former ECW wrestlers on the WWF roster, along with several former ECW wrestlers on the WWF roster, joined together with the WCW wrestlers on the July 9, 2001 episode of Raw Is War. Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shane and Stephanie McMahon, joined the Alliance. Team WWF was led by Vince McMahon, who was also in charge of the reversal of the face. Team WWF won and put an end to the Invasion storyline at Survivor Series.
Following the demise of The Alliance, McMahon founded the "Vince McMahon Kiss My Ass Club," also known as the "Mr. McMahon Kiss My Ass Club," which involved several WWE players being told to kiss their buttocks in the middle of the fight, often with the possibility of suspension or firing if they refused to revert to a heel. On an episode of SmackDown, The Rock had declared the club to be disrobbed by McMahon.
Ric Flair returned to WWF in November 2001 following an eight-year absence, which enraged McMahon. In a Street Fight in January 2002, the two fighters met each other in Royal Rumble, which Flair defeated. McMahon became the owner of SmackDown due to their status as co-owners. When Flair became the owner of Raw, it became the owner of the food. McMahon did not win the match and became the sole owner of WWE on June 10.
McMahon attempted to derail the return of Hulk Hogan after a five-month absence but was disqualified by Hogan and received a running leg injury, according to SmackDown! McMahon interfered in Hogan's match with The Rock at No Way Out. Hogan had a running leg drop and went for the pin, but the lights went out. McMahon was seated on the ringside to annoy Hogan when the lights came back on. The referee, Sylvain Grenier, gave The Rock a chair, which he then struck Hogan with a chair. He beat Hogan in the match with a Rock Bottom finish. McMahon was defeated in a match at WrestleMania XIX, which McMahon lost in a Street Fight. McMahon banned Hogan from the competition, but Hogan regained his fame under the guill of "Mr. America." McMahon attempted to establish that Mr. America was Hogan under a mask but this attempts fell short. Hogan left WWE later that year, and McMahon said he found Mr. America was Hulk Hogan and "fired" him later.
McMahon begged Stephanie to resign as SmackDown, according to McMahon. The SmackDown General Manager talks about the October 2 SmackDown. Stephanie, on the other hand, refused to resign, and the two teams were destined for a "I Quit" match. When Linda threw in the towel, McMahon defeated Stephanie in a "I Quit" match at No Mercy. Brock Lesnar helped Brock Lesnar win the WWE Championship against The Undertaker in a Biker Chain match later that night. McMahon and Undertaker's feud began this match. McMahon defeated Undertaker in a Buried Alive match with Kane's assistance.
In late 2005, he began a feud with Eric Bischoff, who decided that Bischoff was not doing well as the General Manager of Raw turning face. In "The Trial of Eric Bischoff," McMahon served as the judge, he began "The Trial of Eric Bischoff." Bischoff ended up losing the lawsuit; McMahon "fired" him and put him in a garbage truck before it was driven away; McMahon "fired" him and pulled him into a garbage truck. Bischoff remained away for months. Almost a year later on Raw, Bischoff was escorted by McMahon's executive assistant Jonathan Coachman so he could announce the completion of his book Controversy Creates Money. Bischoff began wrathing McMahon, saying that if not for Bischoff's over-the-top inflammatory theories, there would be no McMahon and that it would not be anything but a rip off of the New World Order.
McMahon personally reviewed Bret Hart's DVD on December 26, 2005. Shawn Michaels came out and began discussing Hart. "I screwed Bret Hart," McMahon said. "Don't make me screw you," Shawn says. Michaels was one of the final six remaining participants at the 2006 Royal Rumble after excluding Shelton Benjamin, McMahon's entry theme music distracted Michaels, causing Shane McMahon to eliminate him. Michaels was knocked unconscious by Shane on the 27th of February 27 Raw. When Michaels' old Rockers tag team buddy Marty Jannetty came to the rescue of Michaels, he was forced to enroll in McMahon's "Kiss My Ass Club." Michaels faces Shane in a Street Fight on Saturday Night's Main Event XXII. Michaels was screwed by McMahon, while Shane had Michaels in the Sharpshooter. Michaels had no entries, but McMahon ordered the referee to ring the bell, bringing Shane the victory (another Montreal Screwjob reference). Vince McMahon took on Michaels in a No Holds Barred match at WrestleMania 22, beating them on a no holds barred match. McMahon was unable to defeat Michaels due to the Spirit Squad's and Shane's interference. Vince McMahon and his son Shane defeated Michaels and "God" (which was characterized by a spotlight) in a No Holds Barred match.
Triple H. Shane was struck by a sledgehammer meant for Michaels on May 15 Raw. Triple H had a second chance to strike Michaels with the object this week, but instead he screamed the Spirit Squad. McMahon ignored Michaels and started a feud with Triple H by requiring him to join "Kiss My Ass Club" (Triple H) and pitting him against the Spirit Squad in a gauntlet handicap match. Michaels saved Triple H and the two reformed D-Generation X (D-X). During the summer, the McMahons and D-X engaged in a feud. He was also on Shane's Spirit Squad and disqualified, according to Eugene by disqualification on July 10. Despite interference by Umaga, Big Show, Finlay, Mr. Kennedy, and William Regal, the McMahons lost to D-X in a tag team match at SummerSlam in 2006. The McMahons also affiliated with the ECW World Champion Big Show. The McMahons teamed up with The Big Show in a Cell match against D-X at Unfortun. Despite their 3-on-2 advantage, the McMahons lost again to D-X, effectively ending the game, putting an end to the rivalry.
McMahon started a feud with Donald Trump in January 2007, which was covered on major media outlets. Originally, Trump wanted to beat McMahon himself but they decided against it: both men would select a representative to wrestle at WrestleMania 23 in a Hair vs. The hair match. The man who lost his hair would have his head shaved bald. After McMahon triggered Trump with several finger pokes to the shoulders, Trump pushed McMahon over the table in the ring to his head. McMahon took the time to shake hands with Trump later in a press conference but pulled out his hand as Trump pulled out his. McMahon went on to fiddle with Trump's tie and flicked Trump's nose. The president slapped McMahon across the chest, angering him. McMahon's bodyguards and Trump's representative, Bobby Lashley, were then forbidden from attacking him. At WrestleMania 23, McMahon's representative (Umaga) lost the match. As a result, McMahon's hair was shaven by Trump and Lashley with the help of Steve Austin, the special guest referee for the "Battle of the Billionaires" match.
McMahon then began a feud with Lashley over the ECW World Championship. McMahon pinned Lashley in a 3-on-1 handicap match with his son Shane and Umaga to win the ECW World Championship at Backlash. McMahon defended his ECW World Championship against Lashley again in a 3-on-1 handicap match on Judgment Day. Lashley beat Shane after a Dominator after a Dominator, but McMahon said he was still the champion because Lashley could only be champion if he beat him. Despite Shane and Umaga's interference, McMahon finally lost the ECW World Championship to Lashley at One Night Stand in a Street Fight.
On June 11, 2007, WWE aired a segment at the end of Raw that featured McMahon in a limousine moments before it exploded. The show went off-air shortly after, but WWE.com revealed the angle within minutes as if it were a legitimate occurrence, implying that McMahon was "presumed dead." Despite the fact that this was the fate of the fictional "Mr. McMahon" character, no harm was done to him; McMahon's "presumed death" was part of a storyline. WWE later told CNBC that he was not really dead.
"Mr. McMahon" was supposed to be a three-hour memorial service on June 25. Nevertheless, the show opened with McMahon standing in an empty arena, acknowledging that his reported death was not purely of his character as part of a plot. This was followed by a homage to Benoit, which filled the three-hour time slot. McMahon said on ECW on Sci Fi that he would not be interested in Benoit any more after a note to him had been broadcast, and that the ECW show would be dedicated to those affected by the Benoit murders. A more detailed video message from McMahon was posted before Smackdown on Friday, in which the episode was dedicated to those affected and that this episode would be the start of WWE and fans' recovery process.
On the August 6 episode of Raw, the "Mr. McMahon" character appeared for the first time. McMahon said he faked his death to see what people thought of him, with Stephanie accused of faking grief while looking for her father's final will to see how it would benefit her. He also discussed several topics, including an investigation by the US Congress and owing money to the IRS. William Regal fought McMahon to elect a new Raw general manager, which was also a prize for him. Jonathan Coachman told McMahon of a (storyline) paternity lawsuit concerning an illegitimate long-lost child, who was revealed in the upcoming weeks as a male member of the WWE roster in the following weeks. McMahon arrived and was confronted by his family on September 3 at Raw, but his family greeted him. Mr. Kennedy, who appeared to be McMahon's "illegitimate son," interrupted them. On Raw, he was interrupted by a lawyer who said that Kennedy was not McMahon's uncle and that the true son would be announced next week. On September 10 as Hornswoggle, his illegitimate son was finally revealed. Hornswoggle's son was not McMahon's uncle and not Finlay's son, according to John "tough love" antics against Hornswoggle in February 2008. Shane, Stephanie and Linda McMahon, as well as Finlay, all believed the fraud was staged by them.

Several calls for friendship were made by the wrestlers before deciding Mike Adamle as the next general manager of Raw to restore order to the brand.

McMahon resigned and announced his expulsion from in-ring competition.
For the first time since the Montreal Screwjob at Survivor Series 1997, McMahon, once more a heel, confronted special guest host Bret "The Hitman" Hart to bury the hatchet from the above-mentioned Montreal Screwjob. The two appeared to bury the hatchet, but Vince kicked Hart in the groin and left the arena to a raucous chorus and the crowd yelled "You screwed Bret!" You screwed Bret!" says the author. The two teams then clashed at WrestleMania XXVI, where Hart defeated McMahon in a No Holds Barred Lumberjack match. Hart was fired by McMahon on June 22 for not being concerned with NXT season one rookies, dubbed The Nexus. He revealed the new General Manager would be anonymous and make decisions via emails, which would be read by Michael Cole. McMahon was the guest referee for a WWE Championship match between John Cena and Sheamus on Friday night, and it was the General Manager's first call. The match was called off by The Nexus, who then assaulted McMahon. In a coma from The Nexus' attack, McMahon appeared in a segment on the November 1 Raw. He awakened and his doctor (Freddie Prinze Jr.) explained what had happened since he had been out. Stephanie McMahon awakened, astonishing it was all a dream.
McMahon moved away from WWE newslines to concentrate on both his company and backstage roles in early 2011.
On Raw's June 27 episode, CM Punk delivered a scathing on-air address criticizing WWE and McMahon's leadership. Punk was suspended by McMahon, but he was reinstated at the behest of Punk's Money in the Bank, WWE Champion John Cena. McMahon and Vice President of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis intervened on Cena's behalf, but Punk ultimately succeeded and walked out of the bank with the championship. Triple H recovered on Raw and SmackDown, assassinating him from his position of running Raw and SmackDown while leaving him chairman of the board. Triple H's Chief Operating Officer has since been named. McMahon returned to Raw on October 10 on Sunday, removing Triple H from the competition's board, and that WWE staff had voted no confidence in him the previous week. Although Mr. McMahon was depicted as a villain in WWF, McMahon was involved in a feud with Jerry Lawler in 1993 as part of a cross-promotion between the WWF and the United States Wrestling Association (USWA). McMahon sent several WWF wrestlers to Memphis to dethrone Lawler as the "king of professional wrestling" as part of the story. This was the first time McMahon physically interjected himself into a match, as he occasionally tripped and punched Lawler while seated ringside. McMahon was not identified as the owner of the WWF, and the feud was not announced on WWF television as the two continued to provide commentary together (along with Randy Savage) for the television show Superstars. The feud also fueled the anticipation of Lawler's match against Bret Hart at SummerSlam. Lawler was accused of raping a teenage girl in Memphis, and he was barred from the WWF. He returned shortly afterward, but the teen later revealed that the rape charges were lies.
