Viktor Troicki Life

Viktor Troicki (born 10 February 1986) is a Serbian professional tennis player.

He captured his first ATP singles title at the 2010 Kremlin Cup, as well as his second and third ATP singles titles at the 2015 and 2016 Apia International Sydney.

His best achievement was his career-high singles ranking at the top of the world No. 67, which was his highest singles ranking. In June 2011, he defeated France in the Davis Cup finals against Serbia.

Since then, every Davis Cup appearance he has attended has been to Serbia, with Serbia advancing to the quarterfinals or better.

He is known for his solid service, he can hit 240 km/h (149 mph), and he spent a 12-month suspension in 2013–14 for missing a drug test.

Personal life

Troicki was born in Belgrade. Aleksandar's father is of Russian and mother Mila of Serbian origins. In 1917, his paternal grandparents immigrated from Tver and Rostov-on-Don to Serbia. Sergey Viktorovich Troitskiy, a Russian and Serbian Orthodox canon theologian and church historian, University Professor, author of several works on Orthodox Canon law, and Doctor of Canon law (1961), was his paternal grandfather.

Viktor married Aleksandra (née orevi) on November 27, 2016. They have two children, Irina and Darija.

Troicki and his then-pregnant wife were positive for COVID-19 in June 2019.

Troicki began playing tennis in Belgrade at the age of five and began to demonstrate early promise to local coaches.

Troicki's 68–31 (52–20 in doubles) as a youth, leading to a combined ranking of No. 1 in singles and No. 2 in doubles. In October 2004, the country's youngest world rankings ranked tenth in the junior world rankings.

He began playing Futures tournaments in Serbia in 2003 and 2004, winning his first tennis tournament in Ni and then versus Fabio Colangelo 6–1, 6–1.

He made his ATP Tour debut in Tokyo in October 2006, defeating Fernando Vicente 6–7, 6–2, 6–2, before losing in the first round to then world No. 2. Roger Federer 6–7, 6–7.

He dominated the world No. 1 in July 2007, as a qualifier in the Umag Croatian Open. Novak Djokovic, a fellow in the second round, 6–4, 7–5, before losing to Romanian Andrei Pavel in the semi-finals.

Troicki's first Grand Slam tournament came as he started as a qualifier in the Australian Open. Rafael Nadal, the second seed in the first round, was close in matches and held a set point in the first round, but lost 6–7, 5–6.

He then represented Serbia in the Davis Cup against Russia, losing 1–6, 6–1, 2–6, 6–6, 2–6, 6–3, 4–3, and 6–3.

In Miami, he appeared in the ATP Masters Series for the first time. In the second round, he met Andy Roddick. It was an exciting match, with Troicki taking the first set from Roddick where Roddick fired an angled drop shot but Roddick returned it with a much more angled shot on his backhand. Troicki's after this, it seemed that it was going to go downhill for him, and he eventually lost 7–5, 2–6, 4–6. He then competed in the Torneo Godó, where he retired against Nicolás Almagro 2–6, ret. He lost in the first round to Marc Gicquel 4–6, 3–6, 5–7, on his first appearance in the French Open. He then competed in three straight tournaments, losing to David Nalbandian in the second round of the Ordina Open, losing to Guillermo Caas in the quarterfinals, and in the Wimbledon Championships to Radek t6.

He played in Croatia Open after Wimbledon, losing to Carlos Moyá in the second round.

At the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington, D.C., he advanced to his first ATP final. Troicki defeated American Bobby Reynolds in the round of 16, 6–4, for the quarterfinals, where Troicki stunned Igor Kunitsyn by beating her second seed Juan Martn del Potro, 3–6, 3–6.

Troicki defeated Carsten Ball in the first round and Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round before losing to Rafael Nadal in the US Open.

He later played for Serbia again in the Davis Cup against Slovakia, winning his first match against Luká Lacko 6–3, 6–4. He then competed in the Thailand Open, losing to Jürgen Melzer in the second round of the Japan Open and losing to Mischa Zverev, both in the quarterfinals and the Kremlin Cup. He lost in the first round of the Qatar Open to Victor Hănescu in January 2009 and in the quarterfinals of Auckland Open to del Potro. He was defeated by Tommy Robredo, 6–1, 6–3, 6–0 in the second round of the Australian Open. Troicki then had a good showing in the Zagreb Indoors. He lost in the semifinals to Marin ili 2–6, 5–7. Troicki was competing in the Monte-Carlo Masters, losing to 12th seed Tommy Robredo in the second round after defeating ukasz Kubot 4–6, 6–2, 6–2. Viktor captured his first ATP World Tour title in Moscow in October 2010, defeating Marcos Baghdatis in the final 3–6, 6–3. He had also defeated Dmitry Tursunov, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Horacio Zeballos, and Pablo Cuevas on his way to the championship.

In 2010, Troicki was part of Serbia's Davis Cup team, who reached the final for the first time in their history. He was initially disqualified for the singles rubbers, but Troicki was chosen to play the final singles rubber, as well as the doubles. Troicki started in 2011 in ATP Doha, where he defeated Roger Federer 2–6, 2–6, in the quarterfinals. Troicki reached the finals at ATP Sydney, where he defeated Juan Ignacio Chela, Richard Gasquet, Florian Mayer, and finally lost to Gilles Simon 5–7, 6-7. In both tournaments, he appeared in the BNP Paribas Open and the Sony Ericsson Open, losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the fourth round. He then reached his first Masters 1000 quarterfinals at the Monte-Carlo Masters, losing 3–6, 3–6, after his opponent in the previous round Tommy Robredo retired while leading the match 6–3, 1–2. He then suffered early losses in the Serbia Open, the Madrid Open, and the Italian Open. Troicki defeated Mischa Zverev and Igor Andreev before losing to Tomá Berdych 6–7, 1–6 in the quarterfinals at the Gerry Weber Open. Troicki reached the second round at Wimbledon, defeating Mález 3–6, 6–0, 6–3, and 6–6, eventually losing to Lu Yen-hsun 6–6, 4–6. Troicki reached the quarterfinals of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic, defeating Ryan Harrison and Kevin Anderson, but losing to John Isner 6–7, 1–6. Troicki continued to play at the Rogers Cup, defeating Michael Yani 2–6, 6–1, and John Isner 6–2, 6–2, before losing to Gaul Monfils 6–7, 6–7 in the third round.

He lost in the first round to Colombian Alejandro Falla in the US Open. Troicki lost 4–6, 2–6 in Moscow in the first all-Serbian final in tennis history.

Despite this season's individual performances, this season's results were subpar, but his contributions to the Serbian national team culminated in the World Team Cup for the third straight appearance at the Davis Cup in 2012.

Troicki won the Boodles Challenge, a warm-up to Wimbledon's show, beating Robin Haase 7–5, 6–4 in the final. Troicki was barred from playing tennis for 18 months after failing to submit a blood sample at the Monte-Carlo Masters tournament on July 25, 2013. However, the suspension was commuted on appeal to one year, limiting his eligibility to one year, allowing him to play from July 15. Troicki, who had hoped his suspension would be reversed, said he had "no idea what to do or where to go after the Court of Arbitration for Sport reported their decision. I hope I will be able to fight back someday."

Troicki returned to competitive tennis at an ATP 250 tournament in Gstaad, gaining a wildcard to the main draw after reaching the end of his heroin use. He defeated eighth seed Dominic Thiem and Andrey Golubev en route to the quarterfinals, where he lost to fourth seed Fernando Verdasco. He spent the next two months on the Challenger Tour, a period in which he won titles in Como, Italy, and Banja Luka, Bosnia & Herzegovina. Troicki failed in the second round of qualifying at the Shanghai Masters, but the Shanghai Masters made it to the semifinals before losing in straight sets to eventual champion Andy Murray. Since returning to the ATP Tour, his ranking increased from 847th in the world to a year-end ranking just outside the top 100, finishing 102nd.

Troicki beat Gilles Müller 6–2, 6–4 in the semifinals, en route to beating Mikhail Kukushkin 6–2, 6–3 for his second career title. Troicki defeated Kukushkin in 64 minutes in the first ATP final in history featuring two qualifiers, breaking the Kazakh twice in each set. With this victory, he has risen 38 positions on the ATP ladder to the position of 54 in the Australian Open. He made it to the third round of the Australian Open before being eliminated by world No. 1. In straight sets, Tomas Berdych defeats him in straight sets. Troicki defeated young Croatian Prosperta ori in five epic sets in round one of Davis Cup in March; Serbia will advance to the quarterfinals; Troicki will progress to the quarterfinals. Troicki played in the finals of the Stuttgart Mercedes Cup against Rafael Nadal after beating Marin ili on June 14th. Troicki did well, but Nadal took in straight sets, 7–6, 6–3. With a straight sets win over Frances Tiafoe and a 3–1 victory over Rajee, his US Open campaign began.

Troicki earned his third title as well as defending his Apia Sydney International title in January, defeating Grigor Dimitrov 2–6, 6–6, 7–6. It was his second match in as many weeks with Dimitrov, who had gotten the better of him in three sets in the previous meeting. He tied for the first time in the third round at the Australian Open. He reached the Sofia Open final in February, where he was defeated by Roberto Bautista Agut. He reached the third round of the Australian Open, losing in four sets to US Open champion Stan Wawrinka, barely missing a tiebreaker in the fourth to push for a fifth set. He captured his second ATP doubles title at Sofia Open in February, partnering Nenad Zimonji. Serbia secured the quarterfinals for the seventh time in eight years after two solid victories in the first round of the Davis Cup. In the Davis Cup quarterfinals in April, a straight sets victory over world No. 96 in straight sets. Carlos Busta, 19 years old, held his personal record of 233 km/h. He and his country will face the United States in a doubles victory over Nenad Zimonji, securing his fourth Davis Cup semifinal appearance.

Whilst watching the US Open qualifying match between Hamad Medjedovic and Borna Gojo at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday evening, a tennis fan launched a foul mouthed assault on former professional tennis player Viktor Troicki. Troicki, who ranked No. 12 in the world during his playing career, retired in 2021 and said he was helping his athlete and Serbian compatriot Medjedovic as he stole the fan's ire. According to reports, the 2010 Kremlin Cup champion bribeted Gojo, who was rooting for Gojo to stifle his vocal support for the player.
