Seth attended the all-boys' private boarding school in Dehradun, where he was editor-in-chief of The Doon School Weekly. According to Leila Seth, "he was inspired by his teacher, Gurdial Singh, who taught him geography and infused in him a love of adventure and daring." Seth was later described as a "indefatigable student" and he maintains his distinction in academic life, in debating, in first aid, music, and editing the Doon School Weekly, "indefatigable worker."
