Kehinde Babatunde Victor Oladipo (born May 4, 1992) is an American professional basketball player for the National Basketball Association (NBA)'s Indiana Pacers.

He played college basketball for the Indiana Hoosiers, where in the 2012-2013 season he was named the Sporting News Men's College Basketball Player of the Year, the Co-NABC Defensive Player of the Year, and a first-team All-American by the USBWA and Sporting News.

That year he was also named the winner of the Adolph Rupp Trophy, given annually to the top player in men's NCAA Division I basketball.

Oladipo was drafted with the second overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic and went on to be named to the NBA All-Rookie first team.

He was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016, and then traded to the Pacers in 2017.

He became a first-time NBA All-Star, led the league in steals, was named to the All-Defensive First Team and the All-NBA Third Team, and won the NBA Most Improved Player Award in his first season with Indiana.

Despite an injury-riddled 2018–19 season, including a season-ending injury in January 2019, Oladipo was named an Eastern Conference All-Star reserve for the second straight year. Oladipo is also a singer, having released an EP, Songs for You in 2017 and his debut album V.O. in 2018.

Victor Oladipo Career

College career

Oladipo accepted basketball at Indiana University Bloomington and a major in sports broadcasting, refusing to be contacted by Notre Dame, Maryland, Xavier, and others. "It's like a basketball atmosphere everywhere you go," Hoosiers said on his pledge to the Hoosiers...Bloomington, Indiana, is a basketball town. "It's fantastic."

Oladipo played in 32 games (five games), averaging 7.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.06 steals in 18.0 minutes per game, while shooting.547 from the field during the 2010-11 season. In 27 minutes of action, he made his first appearance in his career against Penn State on December 27 and returned with 14 points, four rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

Oladipo averaged 10.9 points and 5.5 rebounds in 26.7 minutes per game as a sophomore in the 2011–12 season (47.1% FG, 75% FT). Any analyst referred to him as Indiana's "most developed player this season," and he was often cited as the team's best defender. The team earned a top seed in the 2012 NCAA tournament and defeated New Mexico State in the second round. The Hoosiers lost in the Sweet Sixteen to Kentucky, the eventual national champions, after defeating VCU in the third round.

Despite an Indiana roster full of talent, Oladipo emerged as one of the country's best actors in the 2012-13 season. "In 212 seasons in Bloomington, Oladipo has transformed from a raw athletic specimen to a defensive specialist/energy glue guy, often after a robbery that he himself created – to a dazzling, bona fide college star," ESPN writer Eamonn Brenann wrote. The Indiana Hoosiers finished the 2012–13 season as the outright Big Ten champions due in large part to Oladipo's leadership. Oladipo's field goal percentage (611.4), on pace to have the highest field goal percentage since the 1996–97 season, ranked fourth in the country in field goal percentage (61.4). He had the highest net rating among the Wooden Award finalists, which is the difference between points obtained and points allowed per 100 possessions. Oladipo had 42 more points than he allowed for per 100 possessions.

Oladipo appeared and started in all 36 games, scoring 13.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.17 steals in 2012-2013. Oladipo received numerous awards during his junior years. The National Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and a first-team All-American by the USBWA and Sporting News, he was named the Sporting News Men's College Basketball Player of the Year, the National Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and a first-team All-American. He was selected unanimously to the first-team All-Big Ten by both the coaches and media, and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in conference honors.

Professional career

Oladipo revealed on April 9, 2013, during a press conference with Tom Crean, that he did not return from Indiana to begin the 2013 NBA draft. ESPN and CBS Sports had him rated him as the best-ranked pick in the nation's top-five. During the draft, Oladipo was allowed to sit in the "green room" and was selected second overall by the Orlando Magic, who later signed his rookie-scale deal with the Magic on July 8.

The 2013 rookie class assembled for its annual photo shoot and filled out its NBA.com Rookie Survey, with Oladipo as the best defender, the co-favorite to have the best career (with Kelly Olynyk) and second-most athletic (behind Tony Mitchell).

Oladipo scored 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in a double overtime loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on December 3, 2013. Rookie Michael Carter-Williams of the 76ers also scored his first triple-double in the same game, marking the first and only time in NBA history that two rookies have scored triple-doubles in a single game. When Donnie Butcher and Ray Scott were together in the same game for the first time in their career, it was the first time either player had scored their first triple-doubles (not rookies). It was also the first time two opponents had scored triple-doubles in a match since Caron Butler and Baron Davis had done so on November 23, 2007. Oladipo participated in the Rising Stars Challenge and the Taco Bell Skills Challenge throughout the month of February. Oladipo finished second in the Rookie of the Year poll, behind Carter-Williams.

Oladipo was out indefinitely after suffering a facial fracture in practice the previous day. The Magic also exercised their third-year team option on Oladipo's rookie scale contract, extending the deal through the 2015–16 season. On November 14 against the Milwaukee Bucks, he returned from injury wearing a facial protection mask when he made his season debut. In a 101-85 victory, he scored 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists in 25 minutes off the bench. Oladipo competed in the Rising Stars Challenge and the Slam Dunk Contest, finishing second in the dunk competition behind Zach Lavigne during the 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend. In a loss to the Phoenix Suns on March 4, 2015, Oladipo scored a career-high 38 points on 15-of-26 shootings.

The Magic exercised their fourth-year team option on Oladipo's rookie scale deal on October 25, 2015, extending the deal through the 2016–17 season. In a double-overtime loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, five days later, he earned his second triple-double with 21 points, 13 rebounds, and ten assists. He also hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to put the game into double overtime. Oladipo averaged 12.8 points per game in his first 12 games of the season. Scott Skiles moved Oladipo to a bench position for the Magic's November 25 game against the New York Knicks. Following this success, Oladipo's debut came off the bench, scoring 17.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.4 blocks in his first eight games off the bench. For the first time since November 23, he began for the Magic on January 4 for the first time since November 23. In a loss to the Detroit Pistons, he scored a team-high 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals in 34 minutes of action. In a 109–103 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 18, he scored his ninth game in franchise history and the first Magic player to do so since Arron Afflalo in December 2013. Oladipo had a concussion in the final three games of the season.

Oladipo was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Serge Ibaka, along with Ersan lyasova and the draft rights to Domantas Sabonis. In a 103-97 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, he made his Thunder debut in their season opener on October 26, scoring 10 points in 26 minutes as a starter. He signed a four-year, $84 million contract extension with the Thunder on October 31. Oladipo missed nine games in a row due to a right wrist injury in mid-December. He returned to action on December 31 against the Los Angeles Clippers, scoring 15 points. Oladipo returned to the starting lineup after missing six games due to back spasms and scoring 16 points in a 126-121 loss to Portland on March 7, 2017.

In exchange for Paul George, Oladipo and Sabonis were traded to the Indiana Pact on July 6, 2017. In a 140-131 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, Oladipo had 22 points, five rebounds, four steals, and four assists in his first game for the Pacers in their season opener on October 18. In a 114-96 loss to his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, he scored a game-high 35 points on 11 for 18 shooting on October 25, the Oklahoma City Thunder's former team. Indiana defeated the San Antonio Spurs 97–94 after he had 23 points and five assists and missed a step-back 3-pointer with ten seconds remaining on October 29, which boosted the San Antonio Spurs to a 97-94 victory. He was then named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played October 23-29. He had a career-high 47 points and seven assists, as a coach, in a 126-116 overtime victory over the Denver Nuggets on December 10, leading the Pacers to a 126-116 victory. He was later named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played December 4–10. He was named an Eastern Conference All-Star reserve on January 23, 2018. Oladipo extended his streak with at least one steal to 56 games against the Los Angeles Clippers on March 23, a tie with Chris Paul and Gary Payton for the sixth-longest NBA streak in history.

Oladipo scored 32 points in Game One of the Pacers' first-round playoff series against the Cavaliers, defeating the Cavaliers 98–80. He was the fourth Pacers player to score at least 30 points and six 3-pointers in a postseason game, joining Reggie Miller, Chuck Person, and Paul George. Oladipo's first career postseason triple-double in a 121-87 victory, assisting the Pacers in a Game 7. Despite Oladipo's 30 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and three steals, the Pacers lost Game 7 to bow out of the playoffs.

Oladipo was named the NBA Most Improved Player for the 2017-18 season on June 25, 2017. Oladipo averaged 23.1 points per game (ninth in the NBA), 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and led the NBA in steals at 2.4 per game. In almost every statistical field, he set career records. Oladipo was also named to the All-NBA Third Team and the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2018.

Indiana beat the Boston Celtics 102-101, with Oladipo's 3-pointer with 3.4 seconds remaining on November 3, 2018. He finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Oladipo left the game in the first quarter against the Atlanta Hawks on November 17, with a right knee injury. He missed 11 games due to the injury and returned to action on December 12. With 0.3 seconds left in overtime, he scored 36 points and made a 3-pointer from just above the top of the arc, helping the Pacers to a 119-116 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Oladipo sustained a ruptured quad tendon in his right knee against the Toronto Raptors on January 23, putting him out for the remainder of the season. He underwent successful surgery just five days later. Despite the injury-riddled season, Oladipo was selected as an Eastern Conference All-Star reserve.

The Indiana Pacers revealed on November 12, 2019, they had assigned Oladipo to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants while waiting for his knee to heal; he was recalled to the Pacers the same day after training with the Mad Ants.

He made his return to the NBA on January 29, 2020, 371 days after being injured. In an overtime victory over the Chicago Bulls, he scored 9 points in 21 minutes of playing time, including a game-tying three-pointer. An emotional Oladipo dedicated the shot to Kobe Bryant and eight others who were killed in a California helicopter crash three days before.

Oladipo initially expected that he would miss the NBA season but later decided to play after continuing his quadriceps tendon repair.

Oladipo was drafted by the Houston Rockets as part of a four-team contract that also traded James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets on January 16, 2021. In a 125-120 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday, he made his debut and scored 32 points and 9 assists. Oladipo turned down a two-year, $45.2 million max contract extension in February 2021, the most the Rockets had ever offered him. Oladipo played 20 games with the Rockets, scoring 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Oladipo was traded to the Miami Heat in exchange for Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynyk, and a 2022 draft pick swap. In a 116-109 victory over the Golden State Warriors on April 1, he made his debut in a 116-109 victory, with 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists in 23 minutes. Oladipo underwent season-ending surgery to repair his right quadriceps tendon.

Oladipo re-signed with the Heat on August 7, 2021, after receiving a one-year veteran's minimum contract. In a 123–106 victory over the Houston Rockets on March 7, 2022, he returned from injury, putting up 11 points with four assists and one rebound. In a 111–125 loss to the Orlando Magic, Oladipo scored a season-high 40 points, as well as ten rebounds and seven assists.

Oladipo re-signed with the Heat on a two-year, $18 million contract on July 7, 2022.

Not since Boston and Los Angeles in 2020 has the sports world's attention and curiosity been so concentrated on one area of America as Florida in 2023. The Boston Red Sox were reigning World Series champions, the New England Patriots were Super Bowl champions, and the Boston Bruins had reached the Stanley Cup Finals by the summer of 2019. The following year was devoted to Los Angeles, where the Dodgers snapped a 32-year championship drought ended and the Lakers claimed their first NBA title in the bubble.
