Vera Ellen Wang (born June 27, 1949) is an American fashion designer based in New York City.
Early life
Vera Ellen Wang was born in New York City in 1949 to Chinese parents who immigrated to the United States in the mid- 1940s. Florence Wu (Wu Chifang) worked as a translator for the United Nations, while her father, Cheng Ching Wang (Wang Chengqing), a graduate of Yanjing University and MIT, owns a medicine business. Kenneth Wang has one brother, Kenneth.
Wang began skating in Denver at the age of eight, working with Peter Dunfield and Sonya Klopfer in the summers and with the Skating Club of New York during the rest of the year. She trained with pairs partner James Stuart while in high school and represented the United States at the 1968 National Championships. The Figure Skating Championships have been held in the United States. In the January 9, 1968 issue, she was featured in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd. She entered the fashion industry after failing to make the US Olympics team. "Skating is multidimensional," Wang says of skating.

Career
Wang was hired to be an editor at Vogue right after graduating from Sarah Lawrence College, making her the youngest editor at the journal. She stayed with Vogue for 17 years before deciding to join Ralph Lauren in 1987, where she spent two years. She resigned and became an independent bridal wear designer at 40.
Wang has made wedding gowns for celebrities including Hayley Williams, Ariana Grande, Chelsea Clinton, Karenna Gore, Ivanka Trump, Campbell Brown, Kerry Brown, Margaret Keys, Mariah Carey, Avril Gellar, Hilary Duff, Khloe Kardashian, and Kim Kardashian.
