Vanessa Lengies Career

Career

Lengies got her start on Canadian television with shows like Sponk!, Radio Active, and Popular Mechanics for Kids. On the PBS animated film Arthur, Emily's voice was lent to her. She appeared in the Showtime film Ratz in 2000 as the lead actress.

In 2002, she appeared in the NBC comedy-drama American Dreams as a series regular, as the teen Roxanne Bojarski. Roxanne became one of the dancers on the American Bandstand television show hosted by Dick Clark in Philadelphia in the 1960s, and she was on display in Philadelphia. The series ran for three seasons, with the final episode being broadcast in March 2005.

She co-starred with Hilary Duff and Heather Locklear in the comedy The Perfect Man in August 2005. Natasha, the jailbait hostess, appears in the 2005 American film Waiting, as well as her role in the film's 2009 sequel, Still Waiting. In the film Stick It, she co-starred Jeff Bridges and Missy Peregrym as a gymnast.

Vanessa was originally written for Lengy, but it was later turned down to film My Suicide, and the role still has her name. In the episode "Apocalypse," she appeared on CBS' Ghost Whisperer and the NBC show Medium. "Now?" says the narrator. In an episode of the short-lived CBS show Moonlight, she made her second appearance.

In the Lifetime original drama series Monarch Cove, Lengies was seen as Sophia. She also appeared in the ABC online comedy Squeegees.

On the TNT medical drama Hawthorne from 2009 to 2011, she appeared as Nurse Kelly Epson. For the first season, the role was a recurring one, and Lengies became a series regular for the next two seasons. The show, which aired for three seasons of ten episodes beginning in June, was not renewed for a fourth season. Loco Uno appeared on MyMusic, an online mockumentary and sitcom.

In the sitcom Mixology, she was cast as Kacey, a bubbly cocktail waitress. However, ABC has ended Mixology after only one season. Lengies was first cast in a supporting role on FOX's 2016 drama Second Chance (earlier titled Lookinglass).

For the third season of Glee, Lengies was cast in the recurring role of Sugar Motta. Sugar, who is financially stable, self-confident, and has a tin ear, appeared in the season premiere on September 20, 2011. Sugar's singing has greatly improved, and she now appears with New Directions, the season's top glee club; she appeared in the season's first solo number, "Yes/No" — since then. Lengies visited her old high school in 2013 to see how much it had changed, as well as chatting with the Student Life and Drama students about her journey to Glee.

Sugar's self-diagnosed Aspergers, according to Lengy, is part of her personality. She said it was difficult to sing badly on purpose, especially with piano accompaniment. Sugar's debut was lauded by Salon's Matt Zoller Seitz, who said of the new addition to McKinley, "She's terrible." She's also a entitled little snot... She's a sweet figure, and I hope we haven't seen the last of her. Sugar was praised by Entertainment Weekly, and Sue Murray, who was otherwise unoccupied, hoped to see more of Sugar as "a thorn in the Glee club's side." Sugar, on the other hand, was "jeered" by TV Guide, who called her "an off-key addition to the cast." The A.V. Emily VanDerWerff of the Club welcomed the news that "I Am Unicorn" would be one of my least favorite new characters in years. Sugar Motta was named one of "Worst TV Characters" by the Huffington Post in 2012. Respers France was utterly unimpressed by the routine. Sugar's scene following it was one of the episode's few highlights, although she described Sugar as having "a terrible voice."

Lengies resigned from Glee following her dissatisfaction with her lack of opportunity to perform as she was hired per episode, though she did return for two appearances in the sixth season.
