Vagif Mustafazadeh (Azerbaijan) - Vagued Ida (Azerbaijani: Vaqif Mustafazad). March 16, 1940-1980 – December 16, 1979), also known as Vaqif Mustafa-Zadeh, was an Azerbaijani jazz pianist and composer best known for fusing jazz and the traditional Azerbaijani folk music known as mugham.

Mustafazadeh is one of the pioneers and "the architect of jazz in Azerbaijan," according to many world famous jazz players.

Early life

Mustafazadeh was born in Old City, Baku's historic heart, on March 16, 1940. Samed Vurgun, a well-known poet, was chosen for his name by his mother, who was a piano tutor in a local music academy and was instrumental and immeasurable in his son's success.

He graduated from Baku State Musical School in 1963 and was accepted into Azerbaijan State Conservatoire a year later. He first attracted attention at the Music School, performing at the parties and evenings held in Azerbaijan's universities and clubs shortly after becoming one of the country's most popular musical performers. He mainly performed classical jazz, as well as blues and dance music, as well as blues and dance music at the clubs.

Personal life

Mustafazadeh was married twice; he had a daughter named Lala, a natural classical pianist, from his first marriage. In 1991, she received the Grand Prix in the Epinal Piano Competition, France. Aziza Mustafa Zadeh, a jazz musician, was born in Eliza, his second marriage.
