Urs Bühler Life

Urs Toni Bühler (born 19 July 1971 in Willisau, Switzerland) is a classically trained Swiss tenor.

He is a member of Il Divo, the classical crossover company that has sold more than 30 million copies around the world.

Early life

Bühler began playing in a choir and soon learned to play violin, clarinet, piano, guitar, and drums. However, his musical career began when he was fifteen and appeared in a completely different style from lyrical music. He was a member of a cover band and then the lead singer of a heavy metal band called "Conspiracy" when he was seventeen years old in Luzern.

He was still taking music lessons at the Academy for School and Church Music at the time. His success in the industry led him to his move to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where he studied voice with Udo Reinemann, a well-known German baritone. Bühler enriched his classical repertoire under the private tutorship of Swedish tenor Gösta Winbergh of the Royal Swedish Opera and French tenor Christian Papis. He appeared in the choir of the Dutch opera and appeared in the Salzburg Festival under Claudio Abbado's direction. He was mainly based in the Netherlands, singing oratorios, and performing with the Netherlands Opera Gezelschap before joining Il Divo. Despite numerous performances, there are only a handful of recordings of him before Il Divo.

Bühler, together with Carlos Marn (Spain), Sébastien Izambard (France), and David Miller (United States), became members of Il Divo's international musical quartet in December 2003. Simon Cowell, the group's producer, attended an informal first audition. Bühler was simply begged to sing for him unaccompanied in Cowell's office. Cowell offered Buhler a job in Il Divo after being captivated by his tenor voice. When released in November 2004, Il Divo's first album, which broke Billboard at number four and selling five million copies in less than a year, effectively eschewing Robbie Williams from the top spot in the charts. In the United Kingdom, their second album, Ancora, was released on September 7, 2005. Il Divo's third album Siempre was released in the United States on November 21, 2006, and internationally on November 27, 2006. The Promise, their fourth album, was released on November 10, 2008 (world) and November 8, 2008 (US), and it shot to number one in the United Kingdom.

On Wednesday, UK opera company II Divo was spotted in Sydney ahead of their much-anticipated concert in Brisbane. Urs Bühler, Steven LaBrie, David Miller, and Sébastien Izambard were seen leaving the Channel Ten studios after an interview and appearance on Studio 10. The multi-national classical crossover vocal group, despite being garbed in black, seemed to be in good spirits.
