Ugo Foscolo Life

Ugo Foscolo (Italian: [uo foskolo, f.s.] Born Niccol Foscolo (Foskolo, f.s. 1878 – 1827) was an Italian writer, explorer, and poet.

He is best known for his long poem Dei Sepolcri, which was published in 1807.

Early life

Foscolo was born in Zakynthos, one of the Ionian Islands. Andrea Foscolo, a Venetian nobleman, was impoverished, and his mother Diamantina Spathis was Greek.

Foscolo completed the studies in 1788 after the death of his father, who worked as a physician in Spalato (modern-day Split, Croatia).

The Abbé Melchiore Cesarotti, whose Ossian version was extremely popular in Italy and who inspired Foscolo's literary tastes, was one of his Paduan teachers; he knew both modern and ancient Greek. In 1797's appearance of his tragedy Tieste, a degree of success, his literary aspirations revealed itself, as the production attained a certain degree of success.
