Early life and education

Wilds were born and grew up in New York City's Staten Island. Monique Moncion, his mother, is of Afro-Dominican and Irish descent, and Paul Wilds, his father, is African-American. His mother was first a beautician and then a stockbroker. The Wilds attended and graduated from the Michael J. Petrides School in Staten Island.

Acting career

Spike Lee's debut on Miracle's Boys, a drama mini-series produced on The N (now called TeenNick). Since being on television shows such as Cold Case and Law & Order, the Wilds have made guest appearances. Wilds made his film debut in Half Nelson, alongside Academy Award winner Ryan Gosling in an independent drama film.

Wilds appeared in such music videos as "Roc Boys," "Teenage Love Affair" and "Ghetto Mindstate" among others.

Wilds appeared in The Wire, a major recurring role in 2006. Michael Lee portrayed Michael Lee as a brilliant but troubled middle school student who lives in poverty and cares for his younger brother.

In 2007, he appeared alongside Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, and Dakota Fanning in The Secret Life of Bees, the film adaptation of the novel of the same name. He attended an acting workshop at the Roundabout Theatre Company, where he appeared alongside actress Phylicia Rashad in productions of Stockholm Brooklyn and Wool at the Cherry Lane Theatre right after his time on The Wire.

Wilds returned to television in 2008 in The CW's teen drama series 90210, a spin-off of Beverly Hills, 90210. Dixon Wilson, a teen boy who is adopted and moves with his family to Beverly Hills, was played by him. The film ran until 2013. He was cast in George Lucas's produced war film Red Tails in March 2009. During World War II, the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American Air Force (USAAF) servicemen, are chronicled in the film. Ray "Ray Gun" Knight was portrayed by the Wilds in this film. After several back-and-forths, the film, which also starred Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard, was finally released in January 2012.

In Xavier Dolan's music video for Adele's love interest in her song, "Hello," directed by Xavier Dolan, in 2015, Wilds appeared as Adele's love interest in her song, "Hello." In 2012, the Wilds began collaborating with Salaam Remi on his debut studio album. The same year, he signed to Remi's Sony Music imprint Louder than Life. In June 2013, he dropped "Own It," his first single off the album, "Own It." In September 2013, the album, New York: A Love Story, was released.
