Tricia Janine Helfer (born April 11, 1974) is a Canadian actress, voice actor, and former model.

She is best known for her appearances in Ronald D. Moore's reimagined Battlestar Galactica series (2004–2009) and voicing Sarah Kerrigan in the StarCraft video games (2010–2015).

Early life

Helfer was born in rural Donalda, Alberta, Canada, to Dennis and Elaine Helfer. She is of German, English, Swedish, and Norwegian descent.

She attended William E. Hay Composite High School in Stettler, Alberta. Trena, Tammy, and Tara were three sisters who lived and worked on her family's grain farm.

Helfer was discovered at age 17 by a modeling firm scout while standing in line at a movie theater.

Personal life

Helfer married Jonathan Marshall, a lawyer whom she met at a mutual friend's birthday party in 2003. They separated in May 2017 and Helfer filed for divorce in January 2018, citing irreconcilable differences. In 2019, the divorce was finalized.

Helfer became an American citizen in 2011.

She has four artificial discs in her back and two in her neck after an incident in which a piece of luggage was dropped on her head while sitting on a commercial airliner, and two others in her lower back from mishaps while doing her own stunts.

Katee Sackhoff, a former Battlestar Galactica co-star, co-founded the charity website "Acting Outlaws," which accepts contributions for a number of charities and charity causes. She has also been involved in various causes, ranging from animal rescue to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. She appeared in a PETA video campaign in 2014, urging cat owners to keep their dogs indoors.

She became the first female Supermodel of the World in 1992. Helfer left fashion modelling in 2002 and said that all her shoots since then are relating to campaigns or product endorsements. She has appeared in ad campaigns for Ralph Lauren, Versace, Chanel, and Giorgio Armani.

Helfer has appeared at top fashion shows, including Carolina Herrera, Christian Dior, Claude Montana, Givenchy, John Galliano, John Galliano, and Dolce & Gabbana. Helfer has appeared on the front pages of Flare, Amica, ELLE, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and Vogue, among other things. She also appeared in photo shoots by Maxim magazine in 2005, and was ranked #57 on the Maxim's Hot 100 Women of 2007. Helfer was also featured as the cover model for Playboy's February 2007 issue.

Helfer moved to Los Angeles in 2002 to pursue a full-time acting career. Sarah on the television show Jeremiah was her first acting role. She appeared on Battlestar Galactica in 2003. In the 2004 film Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Charlie's Angels, she portrayed Farrah Fawcett. Helfer began constructing and hosting Canada's Next Top Model on May 31, 2006, concurrent with her role in Battlestar Galactica. She appeared in Spiral and The Green Chain later this year.

Helfer did not return to host the second season of Canada's Next Top Model in October 2006 so she could focus on Battlestar Galactica. Helfer played Number Six, a Humanoid Cylon agent. She continued to appear in the television show as a regular cast member in the fourth and final season on March 20, 2009. Due to the uniqueness of the Number Six character – there are several "copies" of Number Six with distinct personalities – Helfer has, in effect, appeared in various roles in the series. In 2009, she reprised her role as Number Six in Battlestar Galactica: The Plan – a television film that tells the tale from the Cylons' point of view. In 2012, she appeared as a prototype Cylon in the prequel Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome.
