Marvin Bernard (born March 31, 1978), better known by his stage name Tony Yayo, is an American rapper and hype man.

Yayo is best known as one third of the hip-unit group, a group he formed with his childhood friends 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks.

Thoughts of a Predicate Felon, Yayo's debut studio album, debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2005.

He is currently signed to 50 Cent's record label G-Unit Records and appears as the CEO of the G-Unit Philly group.

He has since signed to EMI for his second untitled album.

His stage name is derived from the 1983 film Scarface, referring to the main character Tony Montana and Yayo, the slang term for cocaine.

Early life

Yayo was born Marvin Bernard in South Jamaica, Queens, New York City, to Haitian parents, the youngest of three children. Bernard's parents divorced when he was 16 years old. In the tenth grade, he began selling heroin and dropped out of school at age 15. Lloyd Banks and 50 Cent as a child, and the three friends formed G-Unit, which then began performing together on music, including 2002's 50 Cents of the Future, No Mercy, No Fear, and God's Plan.

Though Yayo was detained in 2003, G-Unit chief 50 Cent was given his own record name, "G-Unit Records," by Interscope after the success of his debut studio album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'. As the official fourth member of the company, 50 G-Unit members Yayo and Lloyd Banks were immediately signed to the brand, and then Young Buck was signed and added to the organization as the official fourth member. Beg for Mercy, the first official group album released by G-Unit in November 2003, and it went on to be named 4th Platinum in the United States of America. The album was released while Yayo was in jail on weapons charges, but Yayo was also included on the album. In July 2008, G-Unit's second album, Terminate on Sight, was released, and it went on to sell 102,000 copies in the first week.

Despite his appearances on many mixtapes during and after his freedom from prison, Yayo's return to the streets was not until his debut single, "So Seductive," starring 50 Cent, that drew widespread notice. Tony Yayo's debut studio album, Thoughts of a Predicate Felon, appeared at No. 2 in August 2005. 2 on the Billboard 200.

Tony Yayo has announced that work on his second studio album is still underway. There hasn't been a confirmed name for the album as of yet. "Pass the Patron" is the album's first single, and it features 50 cents. The album will be released by G-Unit Records / EMI, who will both promote and sell the album. "Haters," Yayo's second single off his upcoming album, appeared on March 2, 2011. Shawty Lo, 50 Cents, & Roscoe Dash appear on the track. After being premiered by Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97, Thisis50.com was released. The single quickly soared on the urban radio charts and debuted on the Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B chart shortly after.
