Early life
Visconti was born in Brooklyn, New York, to parents of Italian descent. When he was five years old, he began playing the ukulele and later learned guitar. He went to New Utrecht High School. Visconti's teenage years included stints with a classical brass band (playing double bass) and a traditional orchestra (playing double bass), as well as playing rock 'n' roll-oriented guitar, a valuable education that served him well in later years. He began playing in local Brooklyn bands at the age of 15.
He played guitar in a band called Ricardo & the Latineers in the Catskills after leaving school; the band also included Artie Butler, who later became a leading arranger. He recorded his first recording session in 1960 and became one of New York nightclubs' most popular guitarists over the next few years. He appeared in lounge performances, including the Ned Harvey Band and the Speedy Garfin Band, before embarking on a touring version of The Crew-Cuts, where he met his future wife. The pair, Tony and Siegrid, released two singles; the first, "Long Hair," was a regional hit in New York in 1966, but they were unable to sustain its success.
Personal life
Visconti married Welsh folk singer Mary Hopkin in 1971 after divorcing his first wife Siegrid. Jessica Lee Morgan and Morgan Visconti, two children, and singer Adam Nicoletti have two children. May Pang, his third wife, was married in 1989; the couple had two children before they divorced in 2000. Visconti is now married to musician Kristeen Young, who was born in 20 years.
