Early life

Sirico was born in New York City, New York, on July 29, 1942, to an Italian descendant family. He grew up in Brooklyn's East Flatbush and Bensonhurst communities and attended Midwood High School but did not graduate. Robert Sirico, Sirico's brother, is a Catholic priest and co-founder of the free-market Acton Institute.

Sirico was found guilty of numerous offences and was arrested 28 times, including for disorderly conduct, assault, and robbery before starting to act. He was arrested at a restaurant on February 27, 1970, and discovered him with a.32 caliber revolver on his body. He was charged with murder, coercion, and unlawful arms trafficking in 1971 and was sentenced to four years in jail, of which he served 20 months in Sing Sing.

Sirico was the operator of a discotheque in Manhattan and was also charged with unlawful possession of a dangerous drug at the time of his sentencing, according to a court transcript. Sirico said he was visited by an ex-convict troupe during his detention, which prompted him to try acting again. In 1989, James Toback appeared in The Big Bang, in which he spoke about his childhood.

Personal life

Joanne and Richard were the two children of Sirico. At a Christmas party in Little Italy, Manhattan, he and Sopranos co-star Vincent Pastore met with James Clemenza and his brother Jerry, Colombo crime family soldiers. At the time, Clemenza was under FBI surveillance.

Paolo Per Uomo, a cologne, was introduced in 2008.

Sirico died on the afternoon of July 8, 2022, at an assisted living facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, three weeks before his 80th birthday. There was no reason given for death, but he had been diagnosed with dementia many years before his death. The Funeral Mass of Sirico was held at the Basilica of Regina Pacis, and he was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Queens, New York.
