"I started with poetry," he wrote about his writing career. Solemn Avenue was inspired by Helon Habila's Waiting for an Angel as I tried my hand at fiction for the first time. And then I moved to journalism — magazine articles, interviews, satire, and opinion pieces. I've tried my hand at radio drama and television scripting. This year, I would like to write a full-length play. Looking back, I think I've become familiar with constantly expanding the possibilities of my writing, as well as refusing to allow myself to be restricted by any particular genre."
