Timothy Fuller Life

Timothy Fuller (July 11, 1778 – October 1, 1835) was a Massachusetts representative.

Life and work

Fuller was born in Chilmark, Massachusetts. Timothy, Timothy, the first settled minister of Princeton, Massachusetts, was third in descent from Thomas, who emigrated from England in 1638. Timothy More's younger brother was educated classically and graduated from Harvard University in 1801 with second honors. He was educated at Leicester Academy and then went back to law with Levi Lincoln. He was admitted to the bar and began to practice in Boston. He served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1813 to 1816 as a member of the Massachusetts State Councilor and as a legislator in the Massachusetts State Senate from 1813 to 1816.

Fuller was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Fifteenth Congress through the Seventeenth Congress and reelected as an Adams–Clay Republican to the Eighteenth Congress (March 4, 1817 – March 3, 1825). In the Seventeenth Congress, he served as chairman of the Committee on Naval Affairs. He was lauded as an orator, giving powerful speeches in favor of the Seminole Indians and the Missouri compromise. He was an ardent promoter of John Quincy Adams, and he released "The Examine for the Presidency Considered," a pamphlet that was widely distributed.

In 1809, the Fuller married Margaret Crane and moved to 71 Cherry Street in Cambridgeport, Massachusetts. He was the father of early feminist Margaret Fuller and Unitarian minister Arthur Buckminster Fuller. He is also the great-grandfather of inventor and thinker Buckminster Fuller, as he is portrayed in the latter. The great-great-grandfather of US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Richard Frederick Fuller, was passed on by Arthur's brother Richard Frederick Fuller. He died suddenly of cholera, intestate, and insolvent in Groton, Massachusetts, on October 1, 1835, and was laid to rest in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.
