Timothy Dingwall Bateson (3 April 1926 – September 9, 2009) was an English actor.

Harold Dingwall Bateson's uncle, Dingwall Latham Bateson, and rugby player Harold Dingwall Bateson were educated at Uppingham School in Rutland and Wadham College, Oxford, England.

He read history, rowed cox for the Wadham College Boat Club during Eights Week, and appeared in the Oxford University Dramatic Society's first British production of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, a film directed by Peter Hall. In addition, he provided the voices for several characters in the children's television series TUGS (1988). Since 1994, he has been the voice of Measley from Farthing Wood's audiotape version. Bateson appeared in several shows of Focus On The Family Radio Theater.

In A Christmas Carol (1996), where he doubled as narrator and as the Ghost of Christmas Presenter; Dietrich Bonhoeffer: The Cost Of Freedom (1997), portraying Dr. Donnell.

Karl Bonhoeffer; Ben-Hur (2001), depicting Balthasar; and Father Gilbert Mysteries: The Silver Cord (2004) portraying Mr. Lehman. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, he sang of the house-elf Kreacher.

Life and career

Harold Dingwall Bateson, the son of solicitor Dingwall Latham Bateson and the great-nephew of rugby player Harold Dingwall Bateson, was educated at Uppingham School in Rutland and Wadham College, Oxford. He read history, rowed cox for the Wadham College Boat Club during Eights Week, and appeared in the Oxford University Dramatic Society.

Bateson's stage appearances included the first British revival of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, which was produced by Peter Hall in 1955 at the Arts Theatre in London. He appeared in the BBC adventure series The Adventures of Peter Simple in 1957.

He appeared in several film, television, and radio shows, including The Cadfael Chronicles, Doctor Who (in the series entitled The Ribos Operation) and Labyrinth.

In addition, he appeared on several characters in the children's TV series TUGS (1989). Among the Star Fleet's oldest members, O.J., was the voice of the O.J.

He was the voice of Measley from Farthing Wood's audiotape version since 1994.

Bateson was featured in several Family Radio Theater productions. Among his appearances on the program were in A Christmas Carol (1996), where he doubled as narrator and as the Ghost of Christmas Presenter; Father Gilbert Mysteries (2001), portraying Mr. Lehman; and Silas Marner (2007) portraying Mr. Macey.
