Career

While their family was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, Mowry and her sister began attending pageants and talent shows. At age 12, they persuaded their mother to move to California with them so they could pursue acting. She agreed, on the condition that they land an acting job within the first month of their stay. The family returned to California permanently in 1990, settling in Los Angeles, where they and her sister began appearing in commercials and small roles.

She is best known for her appearance in Sisters, Sister, who is a twin who was separated at birth and reunited with her sister as a teenager. After a producer noticed them on the set of Full House, a show on which their brother made regular appearances, a new one was created for them. Sister, Sister was first on ABC, but by two years and then hopped up by The WB, where it continued for another four years. During its time, they appeared on the sister, Sister crossover episode of The Jamie Foxx Show and appeared on an episode of their brother Tahj Mowry's sitcom Smart Guy, as well as doing voice-over work for the Kids' WB series Detention.

Both Mowry and her sister studied psychology at Pepperdine University after the show ended. For a time, she travelled to Europe to study humanities and Italian. Both she and her sister appeared in the Rob Schneider comedy film The Hot Chick, playing cheerleaders. Mowry also did voice-overs for the 4KidsTV cartoon Bratz as the voice of Sasha. Mowry and her sister appeared in the Disney Channel Original Movie Twitches in 2005 and reprised their roles in the sequel Twitches Too and Before co-starring in the 2000 film Seventeen Again. Tia appeared on an episode of her sister's television show, Strong Medicine, in January 2006, playing Keisha, Tamera Mowry's twin sister, Dr. Kayla Thornton. Melanie Barnett plays Mowry in BET's BET television series The Game. For best actress in a comedy, Mowry has been nominated for a Teen Choice Award and a NAACP Image Award.

Mowry and her sister appear in the Blue's Clues episode "Blue's Birthday" as two of the celebrities wishing Blue a happy birthday. In unison, their only line is announced: "Happy Birthday, Blue!" Tia & Tamera, a reality show that follows the twins' day-to-day lives, began in July 2011; Tia being pregnant and Tamera planning her wedding. Both Mowry and her sister are singers. They have appeared on episodes of Sister Sister, including covers of "You Can't Hurry Love," "Amazing Grace" and "I'm Going Down," which Tamera performed. During seasons five and six, they also performed the theme tune.

Mowry appeared in Cooking Channel's Tia Mowry at Home, where she made everything from macaroni and cheese to pie, curry chicken, collard greens, shakshuka, potato, galette, and many forms of cocktails from 2015 to 2017. Hosea Sanchez, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Brittany Daniel, Lilly Singh of YouTube, and Destiny's Child's Kelly Rowland were among her guest stars.

Mostly Mom with Tia Mowry was launched on podcastOne in 2016. On April 29, 2016, she appeared alongside her twin sister on the daytime talk show The Real Life, where she introduced her latest book Twintution. Since 2019, she has appeared on Family Reunion, a Netflix comedy film. Three years in a row at the NAACP Image Awards, with the show winning in 2020 and 2021.

Mowry's second cookbook, The Quick Fix Kitchen, was published by Rodale Books in September 2021. The book includes mealtime hacks, tips for bringing joy and peace to the kitchen, as well as simple, delectable, and healthy recipes that the entire family will love.
