Career
Kail joined Wesleyan University as assistant stage manager at American Stage Company in New Jersey.
In 2007, and 2008, Kail conducted the 24 Hour Plays benefit performances, where "6 short plays were written, rehearsed, and directed, and all finished in 24 hours." He supervised Julia Jordan's A Bus Stop Play and Beau Willimon's Zusammenbruch in 2008. Both productions were seen at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway.
Kail produced In the Heights, a hit Broadway show that gained him a Tony Award nomination for Best Direction of a Musical. The musical premiered on Broadway on February 14, 2008, with a formal opening at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on March 9, 2008.
The Broke-ology, directed by Kail, appeared at the Lincoln Center Theater Off-Broadway from October 5, 2009, to November 22, 2009.
