Thomas Harris Life

William Thomas Harris III (born September 22, 1940) is an American writer best known for a series of suspense novels involving his most popular character, Hannibal Lecter.

The overwhelming majority of his works have been turned into films and television, the most notable being The Silence of the Lambs, which became the third film in Academy Awards history to sweep the Oscars in major categories.

Personal life

Harris' personal life is little known about him; he did not give a substantive interview between 1976 and 2019. Harriet Anne Haley, a fellow student, married him at Baylor University in June 1961. Before they divorced in August 1968, they had one child, Elizabeth Anne. Harris was always close to his mother Polly and called her every night, no matter where he was located. He and her would often discuss particular scenes from his books. Polly died on December 31, 2011.

He lives in South Florida and has a summer home in Sag Harbor, New York. Pace Barnes, a woman who, according to USA Today, "used to work in publishing and is as outgoing as he is quiet." Morton Janklow, Harris' friend and literary agent, said of him: "He's one of the good guys." He is strong, bearded, and jovial. You would have guessed he was a choirmaster if you met him. He loves cooking, he's taken the Le Cordon Bleu exams, and it's great fun to sit in the kitchen while he cooks a meal and sees that he's as happy as a clam. He has these old-fashioned demeanors, which you can associate with the South. In his first big interview in 43 years, Cari Mora of The New York Times revealed himself to be a nature lover and a long-server and volunteer of the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, an animal rescue center in Miami, Florida, for 20 years. Harris was unaware of who he was until a few years ago, some years before the interview was conducted. Fame, he said, is "more of a nuisance than anything else."

Donald Trump likens migrants to the 'late, great Hannibal Lecter' in RNC speech, the former president's latest bizarre reference to cannibal serial killer depicted by Anthony Hopkins in Silence Of The Lambs

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 19, 2024
The former President, 78, rallied against undocumented migrants and those seeking asylum while addressing the crowd in Wisconsin last night, claiming the number of violent crimes was falling in Latin American countries because 'they're sending their murderers' to the US. He added that they were coming from 'prisons... mental institutions and insane asylums', before including a strange reference to the 1991 film Silence of the Lambs, featuring Anthony Hopkins, 86, as Thomas Harris' fictional cannibal serial killer.
