Thiago Soares (born 18 May 1981) is a Brazilian ballet dancer.
He is a principal dancer with The Royal Ballet in London.
Early life
Soares was born in 1981 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and after being awarded a scholarship to study to become a professional dancer at the Centre for Dance Rio, where she was graduated in 1998.
Personal life
Soares married fellow dancer and frequent companion Marianela Nez in Buenos Aires in July 2011. They separated in 2014 and announced their divorce in January 2016, but they are still dance partners and acquaintances.
Career
Soares debuted in the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theatre Ballet in 1998, where his performances included the Prince in The Nutcracker, Siegfried in Natalia Makarova's Swan Lake, Solor in La Bayadère, Romeo in Vladimir Valiant's Romeo and Juliet's La Bayadère, Don Quixote. He briefly trained with the Kirov Ballet in 2002 and performed Siegfried and Basilio and Prince Aspirations with the Russian State Ballet.
Soares joined the Royal Ballet in 2002 as a First Artist and was promoted to Soloist in September 2004, then Principal dancer in September 2006 and then a Principal guest from 2017 to 2019. In Christopher Wheeldon's In the First Movement of Balanchine's The Nutcracker, The Prince of Ashes, Peter Johnson's In the Great Exhibition of Two, the Prince in William Tranko's The Nutcracker, Siegfried in Anthony Dowell's In the Middle, Elvated Glen Tetley's The Nutcracker, Estee.
